Noting the artisan's look in Dreyrugr's direction, the gnome wisely doesn't mention his acquaintance with the vampire. "Peace to you, Master Monk," he says, and excuses himself with a nod. Picking up two tankards of ale from a line Scheherazade had poured on the bar - the matron apparently come and gone already since he and Bucks lamented her absence - Matthias makes his way to the corner seats where the black knight sits. The gnome sets both steins on a chair, climbs into it, then moves the steins to the table. Setting one ale in front of Dreyrugr, he gets right to business. "Master Dreyrugr, on our travel through the High Kingdoms you loaned me a particular armor, a Hunter's Plate. I was wondering if I might be able to buy it from you now, or if you would loan it to me perhaps?"

As the gnome extends his hand to the hero in front of him, movement near the door catches the corner of his eye and he watches Dreyrugr saunter in. More mental calculations ensue; Matthias makes a note of where the Black Knight sits.

Hmmmmm. Matthias wasn't particularly fond of failing his task, but in this instance he also wasn't particularly fond of his task, so whatever hahahaha.

"Zylstra? Can't say I know where that is. I'm from Drandora, in the Low Kingdoms. My name is Matthias." The gnome extends a hand. "Well met, Master ...?"

I vote yes for this idea.

Matthias' ears go a little red... and then his face turns red too as he holds in a laugh as well. "I know what you mean about uncomfortable situations," the gnome laments, "but at least you weren't pitted against other Heroes." Matthias' mouth hangs open a little and he does some quick mental calculations. "So could you, say, take this Peashooter and have it upgraded to WP:7 for only 213 gold?" "Or have a gem merged with the Fireball for only 43 gold?"

Really looking forward to it! Also, reference #102, someone PMed me about Red Death Blood and I faceplamed; could definitely have used that against Chauncey!

Matthias struggles to keep up with Bucks' speech pattern, but years of barber chit-chat kick in and he continues the conversation. "It was certainly 'being there for real', but I'm not sure I know how things really are. You fight against some people, fight alongside some people, fight against and then alongside some people... fight alongside and then against others...." Another dark shadow, gone as quickly as it appeared. "I did have a friend in Baltarok, big fellow called Baradok, but he left to find a different job. I think he was only a hero for a year, not sure what he's doing now. I think he was a musician in a past life. What'd you do before you showed up here?"

A dark shade passes across the gnome's face as he strains his not-elven ears to hear Nerwen's words. Shaking himself back to the present, Matthias notices that there is indeed a mug in front of him, about a quarter full of something unidentifiable. "Must be someone else's leftovers, Master Bobby; I couldn't advise you on the vintage. Where is Scheherazade? I could use a cider." "Are you new here?" he asks as they both continue to glance around the room in hopes of locating a drink. "I've been a member of Heroica for a year, though the better part of that time I was in Baltarok, so I haven't actually met many Heroes yet."

In that situation I always just ask @Flipz.

Well, Actaeon should sell/trade Matthias the dragoon greaves, and then you can have even more money to not know what to do with hahaha. I will say it's a good idea to keep a fairly large amount of gold available, in case you come across one of the rare in-quest shops that preforms hollow blade or other enhancements....

Hooray for quests! Looking forward to eventually getting on a quest run by each of you.

Matthias stares at Bobby for a couple of seconds - much the same blank stare Monk Pretzel has on his face - and then shakes the offered hand. "Name's Math, I'm a hero sure thing," he says, trying to mimic the mohawked man's strange speech. His tongue rebels, however, and he reverts to a calmer tone. "What are you drinking today, Master Bobby?"

Hahaha Matthias doesn't know all that; he really hasn't figured out how big Heroica is yet. With only the quests listed on the "Questboard," he's wondering. But yeah, Flipz, only involved in three quests right now? Gotta get involved a little hahaha.

Matthias wanders in and checks the quest board; boredom is evident on his face as he takes a seat at the bar. He wonders where everyone is... only 9 heroes are on mission, and yet the hall has been so quiet lately.

No problem - thanks! Matthias eyes the blonde elf suspiciously, wondering if Fabian might have ulterior motives for ignoring a gnome, but hands him the two headgear items and pockets 40 gold. On his way out of the shop, he ogles a Gentleman's Hat, but can't find the courage to part from his hard-earned gold so quickly; underneath the hat is a fold of cloth tagged Robe of the Elven Necromancer that also looks useful, but Matthias' recent experiences with Necromancers have not been good, so he leaves the Boutique and makes his way back to the Hall.
