I'm probably just babbling. Thank you for asking..." As a third veteran hero addresses the gnome unexpectedly, Matthias begins to feel self-conscious. He accepts Arthur's outstretched hand with a bewildered look. A tiny voice inside him pipes into his inner monologue: You know they only like you because you're immortal. They only want to be near you because of your power. Choosing to ignore the horrible thought, Matthias shakes Ziegfried's hand firmly and nods carefully to the dragon. "I admit I did not much care for you when we set out, Master Arthur, Lady Miirym. Thank you for seeing past it." After an awkward pause, his discomfort in the situation teams up with his gnomish love of a good bargain to overwhelm the current line of thought. "Now, do you think we will get our bombs at a reasonable price?"

    Matthias gratefully accepts the shard, holding out his hand to the imp - someone closer to his gnomish height! - in shared respect. "I appreciate your leadership," he says. Moving near Doctor Daneeka, Matthias asks, "Where will you go now? I am unsure what to do with the Anvil. I don't think I will ever find a better place to leave it than here... if you recommend I keep it with me, I will need to keep these mechanical arms as well. Otherwise, what should I do with them now?"

    "If you would have it, you should be the warden of the Anvil. If you believe Etheria is safe for it, you may leave it here. If not, I leave it to you. But even if you leave it in Etheria, know that you are responsible for it. It was your choice to leave it here." Color rises in Matthias' face. "I am the bearer of the Anvil," he begins, "but should I leave it here for safekeeping, it will become the responsibility of Etheria's council. Do not absolve them of responsibility the way your family excuses themselves from having unleashed the Darkness upon Olegaia." The gnome attempts to storm out, but is thwarted by the lack of doors. "Void Master, take me to Zeus." Melquiades points to Zeus, standing a few meters away. Taking a deep breath to cool his head, Matthias thinks through his purchases. "I need a Gaia Bomb and a Demeter Bomb," he decides. I can't figure out where the 2x Phoenix Essences in Matthias' inventory came from... or what happened to the Adamantite Shard he won in the anniversary lottery. I'm taking out the essences and adding the shard back in. I also added in the level from the Astral defense battle. Also, he used a Grand Tonic as his final action, so I've taken in out (and added in the appropriate ether) below.     I want to second this comment, and add my own analysis, before I forget it: this should have been 3 separate quests. 1> Dastan/Xu. 2> Duplovia/Baltarok. 3> Etheria/Passion. There's probably a good argument as well that Dastan, Xu, Duplovia, and Baltarok could have each been their own quest, but I get that you're trying to get to your finale. I have more to say later, but for now, thanks for a great (and very long, and very involved) quest!

    Drained and relieved that the adventure is over, Matthias moves among the babbling party, his healer's eyes searching out any lingering battle effects and nurturing ether into them. "All of that, to find out only what we already knew - there's some witches up to no good." He reflects that at least the cost of bringing back Passion had not been too great - the entire party still stood, none the worse for wear. As usual, the gnome feels himself the odd man out... everyone else knows everyone else, everyone else was on board with the plan from the beginning, everyone else seems happy with the result. Everyone else is still mortal, except those ...Old Gods. "What becomes of the Anvil now?" he wonders out loud in Doctor Daneeka's direction. "And what of the other artifacts?"

    Matthias speaks up quietly from the back, but his low voice carries to the front of the group. "I carry the Anvil of Orrik and I have tasted the waters of eternity. In my visions I fought the darkness, the Shadows, on an island high above this world with the Master of Regret. I fell to Olegaia from the bottom of the eternity pool. I saw visions of the giants, forging great works on the Anvil. What do you say of these visions, Passion? Your sister Hope believes the Darkness was vanquished long ago; Lord Chauncey believes something brooding has returned. What do you know?"

    Whoops, could've sworn I posted this a couple of days ago! Sorry all. Which special was that? Matthias feels a strange dissonance: the euphoria of the ether all around him and the complete draining of the ether in him. He drinks a grand tonic, unless waits for the the party leader's has other ideas.

    I'm confused, how did that knock Matthias out? For special damage, it should be 42+9=51/2=26-4=22 damage, right? Matthias has 36 health, so that means he should still be up with 14 health. Matthias switches to his XX Replica and heals himself. > Matthias: Heal (XX Replica) vs. Self

    Matthias stands silently through the tearful reunions, unknown to most of the shades and not particularly cheered to meet Zelphie again. He nods to Triad Gnash and Bennetton as they join the defense party and accepts the Scroll of Elemental Aura from Ziegfried. "Master Hoke," the gnome remarks in a low voice to his presumed party leader, "I don't like this at all, but let's just get through this and make sure nothing... untoward comes out on the other side. To which end, with this scroll I'll be better prepared the more gems I have. Might I borrow some (Sapphire, Emerald, Aquamarine, Topaz) of yours?"

    Stats look good, here they are again re-arranged for easy reading: Matthias grimaces but surprisingly doesn't explode. "Yes, we expected you'd turn up," he says without looking at the newcomer. Instead, he moves about the party, healing Purpearl and finding no one else hurt.
