    Matthias' cheeky grin turns dour. "Yes, we know." The gnome forces his expression back to a somewhat cheerful expression. He's astonished that the big orc remembers his name. "Peace to you, Master Olmstyr. May I ask what you mean, the vindicator?"

    Nope! Matthias, for once not especially feeling like following the rules - it must be the heat bringing out the gnomish mischief in his blood - grins cheekily at the two from slightly behind Guts' knee. "I don't think Clan Leader Gor, or Clan Leader Grishnod for that matter, would be particularly happy you interfered with their guetsts," he adds to what Holla and Rone have already said.

    Matthias shakes his head. "Not unless there are any shops nearby we might want to patronize," he says.

    Matthias quietly listens to the eager conversation between these three who obviously know each other. Racking his brain, the gnome can't remember ever having met Gor, and he wonders how on earth he could remind the big hobgoblin of the latter's father. More questions, always.

    Trying not to be rude to the people he's meeting, something in the conversation that had been going on between Rone and Holla catches Matthias ear. There's a King in Heroica? Why hasn't he stood up and claimed his responsibilities? the gnome wonders, hoping he'll remember to ask Rone about it later.

    Matthias peeks out from behind the giant anvil he's carrying, having picked it up again after admiring the view from the bridge, and imitates Guts in waving an exoskeletoned fist at the hobgoblins. "Peace to you, General Gor."

    Matthias: Too bad HeroForge didn't have any real hand-cannon-ish bits... which is why Matthias is holding a bomb with a confused look - "Now what did I do with that cannon?!" Is anyone taking bets on the outcome of a Nerwen-Pretzel brawl?

    Matthias doesn't notice the reaction of the other heroes as they cross the bridge; he is struck by the beauty of the place, quite apart from his memories of anger, blood, and gore. The peaceful (if bitterly cold) air seems too good to be true. For the first time in a long time Matthias feels proud of what he and the other Heroes accomplished on his first quest. The High Kingdoms seemed peaceful, if wary; no horde of orcs met them on the bridge. Thinking of orcs, the gnome frowns, unsure of how he might be received by whichever tribe the party encountered first. I'm a little unclear... the Anvil doesn't seem to be in Matthias' inventory, and I'm not seeing a cart. I assumed they left it in Carn during the trip with Prince David, but shouldn't it be with them again, in a cart or something? Or is Matth assumed to be carrying it?

    Matthias walks quietly for the most part as the party retraces their steps back down the coast, not particularly fond of the idea of encountering more necromancy and more interested in meditating on his vision of the anvil than in feeling the freezing cold whipping about them.

    "Perhaps Doctor Daneeka will have some knowledge to apply to the map by the time we get back," Matthias says, hopeful as he continues to poke around the wreck for anything useful. The gnome halfheartedly unrolls his sleeping mat, in need of rest but still slightly on edge about necromancers.

    Matthias holds the rags up to his face and peeks at Dyric and Guts through one of the many holes. Tossing them back in the pile and picking up the Opal instead, Matthias says to the others, "That doesn't look like it would soften a butterfly kiss, much less slow down arrows or cannonballs. In any case, I've been looking for an opal for a while and Master Dyric took the last one."

    Matthias looks in askance at his two comrades, but follows Holla's lead and motions David to do the same. They do nothing.

    Matthias and David repeat ad nauseum until the last skeleton is down.

    Any explanation for these moves? Out of curiosity. The sunburst badge? Identification. Voting for Lorcan? Ask Nerwen in the hall.... I just want to point out that this is (IMHO) an excellent bit of roleplay. 1) There's nothing in the Sungold Alliance topic to suggest badges, but Chromeknight made the effort to build the scenario - in a believeable and approachable way. Who knows, it might even turn into a movement or a standard, which might make the story more interesting later! 2) The badge gives every hero a chance to start conversations with Nerwen - like Matthias definitely will, as soon as he gets back to the Hall. No one knows (in character) that Guts or Lind has voted for themselves over at the Crescent Union, and they won't unless they either visit there or speak to them. No one knows who Nerwen voted for, either, but it is immediately obvious that she has chosen a side, no awkward player/character knowledge separation required. 3) Since Nerwen's the first to vote in Sungold Alliance, and she the first character to really make it public, it allows other characters (like Matthias) who may not have any idea who to vote for, despite knowing which side they are on (perhaps because they have no other choice), the option to seek out a more experienced hero's ideas without fear of approaching the wrong hero (like someone who's voted, but not publicly, for the other side). While that might also make interesting role play and can be accomplished with player knowledge rather than in-character knowledge, Nerwen has given other Sungold-leaning characters the gift of going second (much like Guts gave all the players that gift).     Whoops, forgot I was supposed to be suggesting for David too! Noticing Guts' wound, Matthias shouts behind him to the young cleric. "Prince David - patch up Master Guts, if you please!"

    That's a really interesting idea! Care to give Matthias some advice on how to spend the gold that's burning a hole in his pocket?

    I'm back. What'd I miss? I'm going to say give it back, since there is no possible way Matthias (using an elemental weapon) could have taken out Guts (who is immune to all elements). Guts should never have been down in the first place, which means Dyric wouldn't have used the Essence. The strange deja vu and accompanying pounding at his temples finally fading, Matthias grins his battle grin and attacks the Marauders twice.

    Getting on a plane to Cambodia, I'll be sporadic for a few days. Scubacarrot has Matthias; Matthias will use his Mead and Nostrum for this battle.

    Well, poop. Matthias grits his teeth - One of these days I'm going to find a less painful line of work - and hesitantly repeats. "Alright, Prince, prove me right for arguing for your life," he says quietly.
