  1. "Long gone where?" Matthias demands, enraged as his comrades fall left and right. "You value your own life so little... I will end it." You have got to be kidding. I want the proof! And where's that dice change?! Matthias takes stock of those still standing against the doombringer. "Take this," he says, handing Cedric the Doomsday Bomb. "If she goes off again you might get some use out of it and save all our skins." Praying Orrik for a restorative miracle, the druid stands and attacks. Battle Order > Matthias: Hand Doomsday Bomb to Cedric > Cedric: Accept Doomsday bomb > Matthias: Extraordinaire v. Melissa > Darksten: Bow v. Melissa Bert: Halberd v. Melissa Andrew: Halberd v. Melissa > Parvati: Spell (Diamond) v. Melissa Soliman (if revived): Spear v. Melissa > Throlar (If revived): If Melissa's health is below the damage dealt by your best bomb, throw it; otherwise, Bow v. Melissa Gah, this is so risky. Sucks that we got the worst possible roll at the start of that round. wiz, don't be afraid to throw that bomb if she gets below 100 health. I would have handed it to Darksten since Cedric is *Doomed* but he needs to be shooting instead of wasting turns holding items.
  2. The battle grin begins to spread again across a gnome druid's visage. "Nicely done, Master Soliman. Now let's make an end to this." "You two! Lay down your weapons and armor, give us the Orc girl. Where is she?!" Battle Order (and suggestions) > Matthias: Extraordinaire v. Melissa > Throlar: Bow v. Melissa > Cedric: Wait (placed here in the battle order to keep Tubbs' special from hitting Throlar) > Parvati: Blinding v. Tubbs Andrew: Halberd v. Tubbs > Darksten: Bow v. Tubbs Soliman: Spear v. Tubbs Bert: Halberd v. Tubbs > Matthias: Heal v. first injured party member; if none, Extraordinaire v. Melissa
  3. Matthias watches the blows rain down on Throlar's dwarven form and curses as his healing fails. He immediately pulls in ether to try again. "Hold on, everyone. Keep the attacks falling, don't give those three a minute's breath! Lady Parvati, can you see to it that doombringer never regains her sight?" Battle Order > Cedric: Nostrum v. Darksten or Matthias > Matthias: Heal v. Throlar > Darksten: Bow v. Tubbs Bert: Halberd v. Tubbs > Throlar: Axe (Thrown) v. Melissa Andrew: Halberd v. Mook B > Parvati: Blinding v. Melissa Soliman: Spear v. Mook B > Matthias: Heal v. first injured party member; if none, Extraordinaire v. Tubbs
  4. Ahhhhh...... so is that one die roll per party, 1-3=total party wipe and 4-6=no effect, or a die roll for humans and a die roll for nonhumans, or individual die rolls for everyone? Also, Zeph, if you just hit "edit", put in a reason ("fix formatting") and then hit save, it will reformat everything correctly. Then you can copy/paste from old posts. Matthias, receiving (perhaps from Orrik) a sudden insight into their foe's power, stumbles mentally but comes up swinging. "Change of plans - everyone back off that doombringer. Master Warden, you have the aura of luck about you, hold her off as best you can as we whittle down the others." Battle Order with suggested actions > Matthias: Grand Potion v. Matthias > Cedric: Join Battle > Darksten: Bow v. Tubbs Bert: Halberd v. Tubbs Throlar: Axe v. Melissa Andrew: Halberd v. Mook B Parvati: Opal v. Mook B Soliman: Spear v. Mook B > Matthias: Heal v. first party member to take damage; if none, Extraordinaire v. Tubbs Here's my plan: don't die. No really, that special is more or less a total party kill. We can't afford to have anyone not lucky rolling against it. Apparently it doesn't matter who we have targeting her, we're all in the AoE. Best bet is get all three of them below 100hp and Matthias throws his Doomsday Bomb (if necessary). If Darksten manages a couple of assassinations, so much the better. With Matthias hastened, we have a 1/3 chance of full party rezz/heal/remedy every round, so that's nice.
  5. Matthias re-assesses the situation based on Darksten's shout. "You might be right, but I really don't want any gnomes, dwarves, or orcs next to that doombringer. I'll keep the heals coming as best I can!"
  6. Ouch, fat lot of good that extra turn did hahaha. Can we get a dice change already? Reeling from the hardest hit he's taken lately, Matthias downs a Grand Potion, then checks each party member before he repeats his attack. "Master Darksten, I believe it's best if you and the Watchmen handle the fine lady over there...." Battle Order with suggested actions - Comrade Commander, just chime in if you want to keep leading > Matthias: Grand Potion v. Matthias > Cedric: Join > Darksten: Bow v. Melissa Throlar: Axe v. Tubbs Bert: Halberd v. Melissa Andrew: Halberd v. Melissa Parvati: Opal v. Mook B Soliman: Spear v. Tubbs > Matthias: Heal v. first party member to take damage; if none, Extraordinaire v. Tubbs
  7. Matthias stares for a second in awe at the less experienced hero's boundless greed, then ignores him, grabs the loot to sort later, and rushes with the watchmen to the boss battle. "Master Darksten, sorry that took so long; where would you like us?" For clarification, Matthias the gnome counts as non-human?! The Equal Heights Commission will hear of this! Loot So Far (So everyone can do their own evaluation of what they might reasonably expect to get, in fairness to all, after the battle) Soliman (≈ 60 gold) - City Watch Helmet (SP:2, Headwear) (Market price: 20 gold), 40 gold Matthias (≈ 30 gold) - 30 gold, all from his own armor Cedric (≈ 310 gold) - Chicken Drumstick (Market price: 270 gold and a trip to Etheria), 2x Mead, 2x Smelling Salts, 2x Nostrum, 3x Mulled Wine (Party resources), 40 gold Throlar (≈ 70 gold) - City Watch Halberd (WP: 3, Halberd) (Market Price: 30 gold), 40 gold Darksten (≈ 40 gold) - 40 gold Undistributed Loot 40 Gold (+ 40 from Parvati's refusal) (+ 20 from Matthias' armor this battle) Remedy x2 (Market price: 10 gold x2) Grating Stone (Market price: 250 gold, plus membership in the Crescent Union) Rusty Dagger (WP: 2, Poisoned -2) (Market price: 20 gold, unless you find someone who wants to invest because of the poison) Loot Still To Come This Battle Shattering Arrow x12 (Market price: ?) Health Core (Market price: 30 gold?) 20 gold So, if Cedric used his turn to buff Matthias, will he arrive at the battle with the rest of us? If no, will Matthias be hastened and lucky, so he gets a turn?
  8. Anyone Matthias hits should be fragile hahahaha. I had forgotten about that myself!
  9. Matthias shudders in anger as Andrew goes down. "Lord Cedric, let's end these mooks. I will see if I can bring Watchman Andrew around." Battle Order > Matthias: Extraordinaire v. Mook D > Bert: Halberd v. Mook C > Cedric: Mopagsaber v. Mook E > Matthias: Extraordinaire v. Mook D
  10. What does that guy need more Shadeaux rep for? Doesn't he already have like a bazillion defense from his silk cape? Matthias sure could use some Bonaparte rep, though, if anyone ever wants to see a PC cannoneer....
  11. "Keep it up, boys and girls," Matthias calls out cheerfully. Repeat all. I'm OK with autorolling our battle at this point, stop when someone takes damage if Matthias doesn't immediately Shield them back to full health at the end of the round.
  12. Matthias fires verbally back at Andrew with another mischievous grin, "Still did more damage than you!" Repeat all.
  13. Matthias shakes his head at the watchmen. "Pull yourselves together, gentlemen!" Battle Order > Matthias: Extraordinaire v. Mook E > Andrew: Halberd v. Mook A > Bert: Halberd v. Mook B > Cedric:: Mopagsaber v. Mook C > Matthias: Extraordinaire v. Mook D
  14. Matthias winces and downs his Hero's Cocktail and repeats. "Seriously?" Repeat All
  15. Matthias reels Cedric back, keeping the knight from getting too close. That's my bad, I originally forgot to put "back row" for everyone in my battle order above.
  16. I think not! Matthias motions his party to form up, as they're slightly outnumbered. "Backs together lads, these gentlemen believe they're about to escape the Watch!" Tipping his hat towards Mook D with mock grandeur, the gnome commences firing. "A poisoned blade? How ...I would say rude, but I'll settle for 'forward thinking'. Master Cedric, Watchmen, there are five of them and only four of us so take your pick, but the smart one with the blade will do for me." Battle Order > Matthias: Extraordinaire v. Mook D > Andrew: Halberd v. Mook A > Bert: Halberd v. Mook B > Cedric: Mopagsaber v. Mook C (Mook E: Free hit v. Matthias, 16/2-6=2 damage)
  17. Matthias looks from one party member to another as they shuffle about with their ideas, wondering what each one of them is actually thinking behind the words. Hearing only muted objections, he charges ahead. "Ok, Master Cedric, you and I will knock a door down with the Watchmen; Master Darksten, you take the others around back and nab anyone who tries to run." Watching Cedric down the drinks, Matthias winces. "I know you're anxious to do some good and not be useless, but you just wasted those... their impact on you is negligible but used on Master Soliman, Master Darksten, or even myself they could turn the tide of battle. Please don't waste any more." Composing himself, the gnome turns to Andrew. "Let's go."
  18. "I was thinking you and I should stick together, actually, so I can keep you alive," Matthias grins cheekily at the knight. "Master Darksten, why don't you and Master Throlar head around back with Master Soliman and Lady Parvati, and Master Cedric and I will bust down the door with the Watch? Anyone have a different plan?"
  19. The argument he feared upon him, Matthias dismisses the heat of anger and keeps himself calm for the good of the party. "Leadership? Eat or be eaten? If you truly believe that about Master Zane, how can you believe the things you say he has done for you: looked after you, provided for you... And if he has risen so high, where are his achievements? Locked up in his insanity, where they help no one." Try as he might, a little bitterness seeps out of the gnome. "Yes, I admit these walls were built to contain - I even said as much already. And I admit that there is not more civilization on the other side of the walls, or less, just a difference of cultures. I think Master Darksten is right - I think that without a king, the land is lost, yet Eubric celebrates that lack. But I still prefer the other side of these walls. There are places there a gnome can have a cider in peace... but I haven't found any such place in the Hovels."
  20. "You might be right. Then again, this is the Hovels, a place so ...uncivilized that the rest of the city walled it off. This is a barbarous place, certainly, and there are plenty of similar ones outside the walls in Eubric proper, but there are also wonderful people, families, children, art, culture... much more than killing at will."
  21. "I can't say I blame him, the way ...some people acted. Elves, what can you do?" Matthias trots along beside the group. "Watchman Andrew seems decent enough thus far - between the two of you, this is the most congenial and helpful an interaction I've ever had with the Watch." "The watchman in the bar... well, not so much."
  22. "Nothing is inevitable, Master Knight. You would do well to remember the reason why we are employed - we are not the Watch, nor vigilantes."
  23. Underneath the brim of his enormous hat, a tiny gnome sighs and drags the palm of his hand down his face and mumbles dramatically to himself. "Yes, because that's what we're here to do, start fights. Not find a missing woman, no no no, that would be too easy."
  24. Matthias, surprised to no end that the Watch are actually helpful from the start and don't want to fight first, follows back to the clubhouse with the others. As the story unfolds and Andrew turns to the group, he sighs. "Well, I suppose there was no way we could go about this quietly. We have no other leads, so we may as well go find some Native Sons. While we're headed that way, what do you know about this gang, Master Everyman? What about you Watchmen? What do you two know about the gang?"
  25. Matthias gives them both a nod and drags Everyman to a sitting position, being too short to drag the man to his feet. "The street is definitely not a safe place for us now, but neither is this bar. The Watch - if there are any in the Hovels right now - will be here soon, thanks to all the racket, and they won't be happy to see the remains of their chum over there. Let's find somewhere quiet and out of the way to hole up for a bit. Master Soliman, can we get back to the clubhouse quick-like?" As the others help each Everyman up, Matthias forges nurturing ether into each each in turn: Parvati, Darksten, Throlar, and himself. That done, he quickly gathers what useful material he can find on the still forms of their late enemies and hands bits and pieces to the party. "Darksten, hand Lady Parvati that crossbow I gave you earlier - it's better she not be unarmed." Handing Soliman a dented City Watch helm, the gnome remarks, "Need a helmet? It's you or Lady Parvati. This Opal" - Matthias extracts one from a belt pouch - "is for her to use as well. And these aren't for you," he says finally, handing a pile of consumables up to Cedric. "You can eat the drumstick, but the rest of this is meant for you to use on us - it may give you something more worthwhile to do in future battles." Loot Distribution Soliman - City Watch Helmet (SP:2, Headwear), 40 gold Parvati - Opal (loaned from Matthias' inventory), 40 gold Cedric - Chicken Drumstick, 2x Mead, 2x Smelling Salts, 2x Nostrum, 3x Mulled Wine, 40 gold Throlar - City Watch Halberd (WP: 3, Halberd), 40 gold Darksten - 40 gold
