"A Pirate's Life!" Contest - Discussion Thread
Capn Frank replied to Shadows's topic in LEGO Pirates
Thanx for the compliments Fat Tony. The turtle sub was an actual sub made in 1776. here here. I think someone from C-C posted a sweet entry! -
Wow, a farm theme would be pretty cool and the Zoo theme would add a lot more critters to TLG's animal variety.
-
Thank for the compliments guys. :pir-laugh: That's the same guy from the brickfilm by protowrxs. That's awesome! Oh yeah, yes it is a clone sword. I've got 3 of them, one for my sig-fig and the other two for my Constitution Captain and 1st Lieutenant. Don't worry IS, there are other ppl i've missed. I know it! I mean Zouave, Sah Norman Ray, Sinner, Raj, Jipay, and many more. Maybe i don't have your sig-fig's face?

Alright, back from the Break This ship was far from complete and i showed it to Hinckley and Cap'n Green Hair when it was half complete. So here are some more pics and a little more description as to what the puke is going on with this ship. Since the "Pimp Your IMTP Ship" contest. I thought The Blade was a little small for my liking. I wanted to make something bigger and started on a Galleon, which was looking pretty cool until i realized that i'd needed some (err a lot) of the bricks to continue construction on the Constitution. Therefore i want for totally not realistic, and tada! Ok, fine. Here are some more pics. I worked on the captain's cabin much more than i usually did. It has all the bare necessities: a desk, a bed, a weapons rack (stole the idea from a new Indy set ), and of course an aethershreiber. : There are only 4 nine-pound long guns and one gatling cannon. It may not be much, but it's very lethal against ppl on the opposing ships, and not lethal to ships. Perfect piratey weapons. Here's the gun deck: Here's a pic of the Crowsnest: I like not using those hexagon crowsnest that TLG makes. And now the crew! Here are three Rodeleros and Three Pikemen. I got the idea to try out the Crownie torsos from Grakul's Crown Colonists. Mr. Phes, Bonaparte, Mr. Tiber, Dr. S., ExoBuilder, and Staudie. Here's the main gun crew. Evil Willy, Stick, Jim (he's half Japanese), Hinckley, and Jocko. Here are the Riflemen/woman. My wife, Sting, IS, ZCerberus. And finally the others, The strange passenger that claims to be an Owl, but looks like a skeleton. Darin, Pastor Mike, and some other guy (i think he's the captain).

Thanx for the compliments guys. I had always wanted to use all my Exo-Force robot arms for something piratey. It's the same flag that Col. Whipsitck graciously made for me in the Col.'s Personalized flags thread it's filed away in Library of Pirate Era Flags. I can do that Joey, but the soonest i'm able to is Monday evening if i have time. It's final Exams week in college. Thanx for the compliments. Well then you won't like that much of the inner decking of the ship is dark Bley. Unfortunately the Constitution is hogging almost all the other colors of plates that would work much better. I don't even know most of the time. LOL! Those are all the crew, except one passenger. You'll see pics of the crew below. Sure thing! As soon as i find your sif-fig head at a B-L store i'm shopping at. It took me forever to get Hinckley's though. To the point where i just went to a store that had the Hagrid face and then the most bricks i needed for the constitution. And now a commercial break for our sponsors. Want to win some sweet piratey prizes? Pirate collection a little low? Well then pirates and wenches... Take part in the "Pirate's Life" contest. Where the prizes are real and piratey! You don't have long to post your entries, SO GET BUILDING!

51d Well i've gone against Hinckley's wishes and decided to post this ship here. *Gets tounge back into mouth before getting whacked on the face* I've decided to have this as a pirate ship with some design influences of steampunk. But it's pretty much still all sail era stuff and no steam engine. Hinckley's steampunk ship was a large influence from the style of ship that i've built here. For some reason i can't load any pics from my computer onto my photobucket folder, so i don't have all my pics loaded so far maj.com. Well here's what i've got uploaded. I'll post more later today when i have time. No one knows the origins of this strange ship. It's made of strange metals, and its design is bizarr compared to other ships. Here are some closeups of the stern: The Bow with a Gatling Cannon: Here's a quick view of the Larboard side: Just like ZCerberus does, i wanted to make something for fun and not go for realism, but for cool looking. Whacha think?
-
I've only got 1 shooting cannon. Us americans got ripped off big time with disabled and non-shooters. Your ship's improvements sound great. Looking forward to further pics.

Great progress Chenben! The coloring of this ship is awesome looking. Now that brown (err, i mean rown) is more readily available from official sets it's easier have more brown in our MOCs. Thank you Lego! Great tumblehome effect too. it's very well done. Do you have a nationality for your ship yet? I'd probably consider it a Corvette if it's french or a small frigate otherwise (has more than 20 cannons). Although I'd put smaller MOC cannons on the top deck. It's more realistic; plus, it gives you more room on the top. I suggest 2-E of the 9-12 pounders in then MOC Cannon Index. For the stern, are you able to lower it at all, so it's more flush with the gun deck?
-
Holy Spears! Those will definitely keep away borders! It's a nice little ship. Could use a "smoother" transition from the center portion of the ship to the stern. I like the coloring though. Do some of your crewmen have viking torso? BTW Grakul: Feel free to post more pics of your MOCs when you post them. You'll get comments that way. Kinda like these: I mean look at the Figurehead. That thing's awesome! Lets take a look at the stern: and as you can see, with the smaller pics, you can post two per rows. Oh, and also: I've added this ship to the Index of MOC Ships!
-
Well i've indexed this MOC into the Index of Land-Based MOCs. Thanx for this great find B I've backed it up into the pirates photobucket account too.

The Brick Testament - The Temple of Yahweh
Capn Frank replied to Brendan Powell Smith's topic in Brick Flicks & Comics
Don't worry, i knew you aren't the first one to make such a temple. But yours is my favorite so far Yes, You are correct. My apologies. I've been thinking 40 feet instead of 30 feet wide. I guess it does make sense about having this thread in the other themes. I've just kept thinking of History & Adventure Forum as everything that all historical MOCs w/out looking at the subtitles. -
No worries mate. Thanx for the heads up. The only modification i may do is to just cut off the sight on the tip of the barrel. No problem! I was already planning on it. I may have to get on my knees and beg too.
-
Well, welcome back Errorist! Darn cats! They taste just like chicken in case you were wondering. Lookin forward to Version 2 BTW: Double posting is frowned upon when you've got 2 posts next to each other less than a day apart and they're short posts.

The Brick Testament - The Temple of Yahweh
Capn Frank replied to Brendan Powell Smith's topic in Brick Flicks & Comics
Down road i had planned on making Solomon's temple also. This temple is a little small i think for M-F scale, but it captures its assumed shape very, very well. I love the (i think they're legs) detailing for the top edges of the exterior. I hope you don't mind if i refer to this temple when i begin construction on mine. The lampstands are pretty cool too. I've been trying to get something close to that for a while, but haven't. I'm curious why you chose to not have a roof over the pillars? I've seen renditions with and without the roof though. BTW: Should this thread be in the History & Adventure Forum? -
Thanx for the find IS! I like it even if others may think it's lacking M-F's It has been added to the Index of Land-Based MOCs.

Thank you Badger and everyone else for this great idea! Hope it's ok with you Badger that i posted my version's pics in here. I put on the US Marine uniform again and gave my shot at the infamous U-Clip. (sorry for the blurry pic) As you can see, the bayonet is at the end of the Garand. I added this little rubber piece: This same U-Clip w/out the rubber piece can be used on the standard Musket: Below is a pic of me holding the 3mm rubber hose from my megablocks set, which is where i cut the small rubber piece from: (I think i had finally found a use for all this hose that i've kept from my MB set) No lego bricks were harmed in the creation of this U-Clip.

Way to make a minifig-usable grappling hook.
Capn Frank replied to cyclone501's topic in LEGO Pirates
Are you talking about one of these: (they do come in brown ) and one of these: How about a slightly similar idea only using 3mm hose? Tie a string to the end of the grappling hook. Cut a short length of 3mm hose. Slide the string through the 3mm hose. Add a drop of glue when the hose is at the end of the string. Hows that? -
Its taken you only a week to get that far! That's impressive to get a ship like this done in 2 weeks. I hope you had time to sleep and eat between building.
-
Great work Ralph! This is very impressive. I've seen the F-16 up close. Knowing it's one of the smaller jets used by the USAF, i was taken back by its large size! It looks like you've done a great job at making these MOCs Mini-Fig Scale. I love the Chinook too. That's awesome how you've made the propellers able to fold.
-
Just to put this out there: I've recently read that when a ship was emptied of her cargo or weapons, the crew would place more stones in the "ballast" (the basement of the ship) to keep the ship at a similar water level. This way the sailing qualities of the ship would remain the same and the ship wouldn't tip over in a strong gale. I suggest implementing this with your ship Cap'n. It's no big deal mate. I only had to forge your signature cause you forgot to sign the forms again.
-
Or shorten the barrel so it looks more like a blunderbuss. I don't think i've seen anyone try that.

Congrats IS! Does that mean i've lost my job? There was a Pirate Regulator. But no one knows what happened to him.
