Marvel Superheroes 2019 - Rumours, Speculation & Discussion

I'd go with either Spider-Girl's (right length) or Agent 13's (closest match to the movie) -

The Hoth and Endor action playsets have me intrigued. Even if they turn out to be overly gimmicky, they should hopefully still provide a decent parts pack for Endor/Hoth scenes as well as some decent figures. I also hope to see updated Scout Troopers and a new Endor Luke. The Resistance sets are an easy pass and I'm not too excited for the Starkiller Base duel since I already have the characters. It really depends on how good the build is. -
I wouldn't say it's a lack of interest as it's something even the popular flagship themes like Star Wars have to deal with. But budget and sales are definitely a factor in why we rarely see specialized new parts, especially when you consider how expensive D2C sets usually are and the limited options for purchasing them due to their exclusivity. Most D2C sets have to outsource new pieces through the budgets of regular retail sets and even other themes, such as 60's Catwoman and Ewok Village Leia's hairpieces being introduced first through the CMF line even though they were specifically designed with those licensed characters in mind. There's still Glinda and the Wizard. Plus when it comes to D2C releases, shouldn't the set itself be enough of a selling point? How much did the minifigures make or break the Disney Castle?

I agree the comic Thanos figure is still the best one. I'd like the movie versions more if we had one figure armored and one without, but the 50/50 look that they're both going for just feels off and unfinished. The new Hulk figure also looks pretty ordinary compared to the previous ones. -

I like the new helmet too. The dual molding definitely adds a lot more depth to the shape. I do wish it had that slight gap between the goggles and the headband (mostly because that's how I preferred them in the films themselves) but understand the reason it wasn't likely possible due to the molding process. -
I think there's enough interest for a stand alone set, but the issue with D2C sets is that they rarely introduce specialized new parts. So far all the characters except the Wicked Witch have had brand new pieces made exclusively for them. That could be part of the reason why we're seeing these characters being pushed out through other themes first.

Glad to see others want to see more of Luke and Leia from TLJ. They're the two characters I'd like to see released from that movie the most (preferably in both costumes). As mentioned the Crait versions would be easy to pull off in the Lightsaber Dual and Lifeboat sets. Another cheap Ahch-To set based on the tree this time would be a good way to release a Jedi Exile Luke (as well as Force Ghost Yoda, Caretakers and jacket-less Rey) although it's unlikely to happen until the current set with Luke's hut is retired first. The Raddus could be designed at a similar price and scale to the Malevolence and Rebel Combat Frigate. It's a set I'd definitely like to see and the perfect place for Leia's first costume during D'Qar's evacuation. Another option could be for her to be included as an extra in a Resistance A-Wing set, much like Lando was in the most recent ROTJ version. Unfortunately I think they've missed the chance to release her in anymore Rebels sets. Would be great if she showed up in some other form of media like an anthology film or one of the live action TV shows which would increase her chances of being made. She would be a great minifigure!

I believe only one of the minifigures in each set will be yellow. There was a rumor a month or so back that one of the anniversary sets will be Anakin's Podracer which will include flesh skinned versions of Anakin and Padme, plus an additional yellow skinned minifigure. -

Kamino would be an interesting choice. Its a location that has never been done before and a great way to get the Jedi Starfighter Jango Fett for an affordable price. If they threw in a Kaminoan it would be a day one purchase from me. I'm really hoping Obi-Wan gets an upgrade the next time he shows up. Luke's mullet hairpiece from The Last Jedi would be a much better fit for him than the Boromir one he's currently using, plus its long time they moved away from using dark orange hair and instead go with the more accurate nougat color that the 75109 buildable figure has: -

The Inferno Squad battlepack looks pretty good. They really captured Iden Versio quite well. Don't really care for Microfighters that much but I'm glad we're getting the orange pauldron Sandtrooper in a cheap set. Shame Darth Maul still has the creepy smiley face. The Death Star Escape turned out better than expected and highlight of the wave. Even though its already represented in the larger UCS set, this is a good smaller take on the scene with much more detail. Nice use of the white Batman belt and transparent back bracket on Luke too. The Droid Gunship looks like an improvement over the previous ones but not something I'm going to rush out for. If it goes down enough on sale I might pick it up. The AT-AP is an easy pass though. -
Some great choices. Its been a while since we've had Endor sets and both the TIE Interceptor and Mos Eisley Battlepack would be instant buys. A new EV-9D9 would be great if she had a unique molded torso/head piece like 2-1B and K-2SO. I do think it would be a missed opportunity not including Bail Organa (with his speeder) and Mas Amedda in a Senate Dual set though, even if it meant pushing the price up for something closer to Snoke's Throne Room/Death Star Final Dual. I also think if Padme were included in a Bounty Hunter Pursuit set it should be based on the Senator/Loyalist Committee costume from the pre-chase scenes in her apartment and Palpatine's Office (and later the Clone Wars show). It might not be scene accurate, but that didn't stop Queen Amidala coming with the Gungan Sub and a proper senator version would be much more desirable than a plain nightgown. She wouldn't need any new molds either since the existing high bun hairpiece would work perfectly fine:

Shame the A-Wing Pilot is the same. Would've been good to have gotten a new design for the helmet representing Green Leader this time. Wonder if we'll see R2-D2 updated in the Microfighter set next year? Didn't realize it until now but the Dagobah figure changed the designs on his head and torso in addition to giving him mud stains. Its a minor change but a clean version would be welcome. Regarding the new Stormtrooper helmet - the awkward 90 degree cutoff definitely looks to be a dual molding issue. The shape of the helmet itself still curves over the torso like the old piece did, but they've split that part of the plastic up into two different colors that it makes the shape look sharper than it actually is. -

I don't mind the 4+ sets using the old helmet for Luke. Opinions on the new Rebel helmet have been pretty divisive and keeping both molds on the market is a good compromise to keep everyone happy, as well as hopefully give both sides a chance to eventually complete their respective collections of Rebel pilots. Its also good to finally have an updated visor face print for Luke without the cheeklines. I'm interested to see what the Hoth playset will be based on. The Medical Chamber was a pleasant surprise and a Control Room with that same level of detail would be nice, although I do wish these sets would be modular so you could actually combine them. Wouldn't surprise me if we get a new Snowspeeder - either as part of the Hoth playset or one of the 20th Anniversary sets. Hopefully any Rebel pilots will come with the new helmet. Not too excited for a potential Rey vs. Kylo set since I already have several figures of them from TFA already and there's only so much you can do with a forest. If the build itself is a decent display piece or it comes with a Starkiller Base variant of Han it might gain my interest. -
I'd like to see a UCS AT-AT, especially if they take the Sandcrawler approach of having it double as both a playable set and as a display piece.

Not too surprised that we're getting a new Stormtrooper helmet. With the increased molding detail we saw with the Mimban helmet it kind of felt like a matter of time before the standard helmet was updated to keep up with that level of detail. Admittedly the proportions did look a bit strange in the first leaked pic but it looks fine in all the subsequent photos. In the two most most recent ones the shape looks quite similar to the existing piece, just with more 3 dimensional depth around the goggles and chin area. I agree with the poster that prefers having a small gap between the goggles and headband, but its understandable why its not there due to the dual molding. Overall I welcome the change and hope the Scout Trooper and TIE Pilots will follow soon. The only thing I dislike about the new Stormtroopers is that they're still using the black hip piece when they've already updated the Stormtrooper armor with hip printing on the Mimban Stormtrooper and Vader's Castle Pilot. The change is inevitably going to carry over to the standard troopers which makes this particular figure from the Death Star Escape feel incompatible for army building. Love the new Praetorian Guard sunvisor helmet. I'm not too bothered about them using the standard legs as they do seem more accurate (the skirt would be more fitting for the Imperial Royal Guards). Just a bit disappointing the battlepack will also be reusing the lockjaw helmets from the Throne Room instead of the bucket helmets. While I would like to see L3-37 released, her character design in All-Stars unfortunately has that look like it was made specifically for the show and not very Lego-like. Pru Sweevant looks a bit more official though and uses existing parts so hopefully he might get a physical release. We've seen more obscure characters released in the past. I saw a poster of the show on Instagram featuring a cast of new characters like the Freemaker Adventures alongside the movie ones (including a grown up Rowan?) so I'm guessing any potential All-Stars sets will primarily include them. -

Glad to hear we'll be seeing Skrulls along with Thanos getting a new mold. Wasn't expecting to see Rescue in the film either, let alone get a minifigure of her. Hopefully they keep a similar face print to the existing Pepper figure and not cheapen out like they did with the War Machine figure from Civil War. -
I'd also throw in a Ronto and Eopie. Both would be a great addition to Tatooine displays, although the Bantha still takes priority. The Kaadu could also use an update as its been 18 years since it last came out and the original figure is fairly outdated now compared to the printed animals/creatures we see these days. And I'm hoping a potential Master Builder Geonosis Arena set will come out a lot sooner than 2022.

Not sure what to think of the new face print. I don't mind it as an alternate scene specific version like the UCS Falcon figure, but not sure I like it enough to replace the standard face print they've been using the past couple years. The new smiley face does make her look older with the extra line details. Shame the photo doesn't show if the figure is still using plain white legs or not. -
I expect the MBS line will mostly just focus on the iconic locations. Yavin IV, Geonosis Arena, Jedi Temple, Lars Homestead, Mustafar Duel, Jabba's Palace, Mos Eisley Cantina, Endor Shield Bunker - those are the main ones I think have the biggest chance to get released. Theed Palace, Kamino, Kashyyyk and Starkiller Base have potential in the long run but not before most of the others have been covered first. Maybe the Scarif Citadel also although that could just as easily be done like Vader's Castle. Anything beyond that seems pretty unlikely though. Maz's Castle is currently too dependent on new molds for the alien patrons, Canto Bight has the whole gambling thing going against it and the rest are probably better suited as smaller retailer release sets (D'Qar, Kessel Mines, Senate Duel, Watto's Junkyard etc)

Glad we're finally getting another TPM Padme - and in an affordable set too! A little disappointing we're getting another Tatooine variant before Theed Battle, but it was due an update anyway and its been too long since the last Padme figure. Hopefully this isn't a one-off appearance and we'll start seeing Padme figures more regularly again. I do prefer she keeps using the standard adult legs though as she wasn't really any shorter in TPM than she was in AOTC/ROTS. Also hoping she still comes with a proper "Natalie Portman" face print like the Geonosis version did. Not sure how I feel about Leia getting a new face print. Is it just a scene specific expression or a completely new redesign? I suppose if they can improve the likeness its a good thing, but if she's getting a completely new redesign I hope they can stick with it for the long term. It gets annoying when they constantly change the standard face with every new figure instead of keeping a consistent design for a character (Qui-Gon Jinn being a recent example) Not too much to say about the other figures. Curious to see which character the X-Wing Pilot will be based on. Hopefully the A-Wing Pilot will be Green Leader this time as we've already gotten Sila Kott and Jake Farrell with the last two releases. Also hoping the Rebel Troopers are the Fleet Troopers from ANH. -

Mixed thoughts on the AT-AP. On one hand being disappointed its based on ROTS rather than TCW again, but at the same time glad I can pass on buying it as its not really a vehicle I need to be upgrading given its obscurity in the movie and how well done the last set release was. Those AAT Pilot Droids look amazing though. Glad to have another source for the Juniors Death Star. If Classic Leia gets a printed skirt piece instead of plain white legs it will be the definitive version of that character and guarantee the set a must buy. Bonus points if Luke also has the dark tan hairpiece instead of light tan. Disappointed the Sith Infiltrator and Naboo Fighter are Microfighters. I'm hoping TPM gets a few system scale sets given its the film's 20th anniversary next year. Would be nice to get some long overdue characters out the way too (Theed Battle Padme, Boss Nass, Shmi Skywalker etc). Maul's face and Obi-Wan's hairpiece could use a redesign too. Don't care much for Inferno Squad. Would've preferred the 501st. Same here. I'm also interested if the Resistance Shuttle rumor with General Leia and Nien Nunb is fake or still coming. -
To be honest I'm kind of glad we haven't seen anything from Resistance. Nothing from the trailer has really jumped at me. The lead is irritating in an overly kiddified kind of way, the other new characters don't seem that interesting, the ship designs aren't ones I see myself keeping on display as Lego sets and the story itself just feels far too small in scale - even more than Rebels first season did. The only real draw of the show for me are the ST characters (Poe, Leia, Phasma, BB-8) who we've already gotten minifigures of. I am looking forward to seeing whats in store for The Mandalorian, but anything to do with Resistance I'll be happy to see kept to the Juniors line.

I second Two-Face. For being such a huge Batman villain its surprising how rarely we see Two-Face show up in any sets. I wasn't that keen on the tacky orange and purple suit from the previous comic version either so an update with a fresh color pallet would be more than welcome. I'm hoping we also see Catwoman, Batgirl and Superman's redesigns show up in the near future. Not as excited for Riddler as I do find his new design a bit plain compared to the LBM one, -

Same here. Its a shame because the last comic Spider-Man wave that came out had some amazing builds, especially the Bridge Battle. I do like that they're including Spider-Man's dual molded legs in all the sets this time, rather than just exclusively appearing in the most expensive one. Hopefully this trend continues with other characters like Batman and Superman. -

Vader's Castle looks amazing! Bigger than I was expecting but that is only a good thing. I like all the details they've managed to cram in - the Bacta Tank room with the awesome trans red windows in the back, the Sith Shrine, the lava river flowing out the front, Vader's meditation chamber - even how spaceous the hanger feels despite only being able to fit the micro TIE Advanced. Shame the butler got left out but other than that this set is definitely a home run! Definitely a Day One purchase! I think there's still room for improvement on the Guards. Getting rid of the cape and using the skirt piece like the Praetorian Guards do would better replicate the Royal Guard's long flowing robes and slender frames from the films.
