[KEY TOPIC] LDD feature requests
Calabar replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
A pair of feature from my "wishlist": - Tabbed wiewport In order to work easily with more than one model. The difficulty in this situation could be implement this feature but not slow down LDD viewport. - Better selection tools Selection tools are limited and limiting! I'd like to combine tools (using checkbox in the tool list for example) and use intuitive ctrl/alt keys to add/subtract parts selected with those tools and selection rectangle (now ctrl works with single bricks only). - Better group functions, and particularly a "work with this group" function: all pieces added will be added to the selected group automatically, without the need to select and add in a second moment. A "group bar" placed under the viewport would be a useful add too, and will allow an easy management of groups during the building stage. Naming groups could be useful too. Finally, an easy way to create a "parent group" from a set selected groups. -
Eheh, he was ironic! Zblj has a signature with a sparkling big image telling he is the winner of the contest! So he uses the first question to introduce the point about big images in the signature.

LDD 4 is released!
Calabar replied to Daedalus304's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
It seems the "magic sphere" used in the Vladek's Dark Fortress (8877). Peeron described it as "Scala Finial" -
6061 - Siege Tower Theme: Castle > Lion Knights [Brickset] [Peeron] [BrickLink] Download (LDD 4.2.5): - Direct link HERE. - More on my BrickShelf Gallery HERE. - Visual Gallery HERE. - Get the ZipPacks from HERE. Known Inaccuracies: - Hinge Plates 2x4 (3597 and 3315) replaced with a custom solution (92582+60471+3021+3022) - Clip 4085a replaced with clip 4085b - Technic pin bush 1/2 with teeth (4265a) has been replaced with Smooth type (32123) - The technic pin 1/2 is stucked in the "Technic Wedge Belt Wheel" in the opposite verso. - Saddle with one clip (4491a) replaced with saddle with 2 clips - The rope is missing. - I used minifig head with hollow stud (3626b) instead than old type (3626a) - Many decorations missing, replaced if possible. Extra: In the zippack an alternate version of the tower I built in real bricks for myself some time ago. Comments: It is one of my favourite sets.

[Software] LDD Manager
Calabar replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
But LDD allow you to select all bricks of a specific colour in the scene (including those with multiple colours, but those are selected depending on the colour of the main section), so you have not to select bricks one by one. I thought your request was due to the need of batch replace colours in more than one lxf file, but with a single lxf file LDD is fast and easy enough. Or miss I something? PS: remember that a lxf file is a zip file. You can extract it and extract the LXFML, that is a text file. Then with a text editor you can replace the wrong colour code with the correct one (the colour code is specified at the voice materials="<colour_id>[,<colour_id>]*" -
When the message about removed bricks is shown, LDD creates a file, UnplaceableBricksDump.lxfml You can find it in LDD user profile directory. It contains the LDD model coloured in yellow, except for those bricks that causes the removal of other bricks, that results in red colour. Try to place again these bricks, this could solve your problem (except when the connection you are trying is absolutely illegal).
-
The issue seems to be that you can't find in LDD adequate bricks to built ships' hull, right? You could try to realize a custom version using available bricks. As you can see, many sets have custom solutions, that's because LDD provide only a subset of existing bricks. Create good custom solution is a challenge that, I think, make the building process more interesting.

T-47 Snowspeeder in LDD - help?
Calabar replied to ScottishDave's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
If an element is flexible, it is marked with the "flex symbol" in the palette. Presently, there are only 4 flexible bricks. -
Color Palette GUI in LDD 4
Calabar replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I agree with you. Another issue of the present arrangement of LDD tools is related to the use of the bucket tool. In LDD3 when I wanted to change the colour to a group of bricks, I simply selected the bricks, then I selected the colour and all selected bricks was recoloured. In LDD4 this procedure is much more uncomfortable. I have to select the colour, then select the bricks, then select the bucklet tool. And when I do that selection is lost, so, if I want to change again the colour, I have to select bricks again, and not ever selection is simple. Besides, working with LDD, I usually have a ready selection before I choose the colour, so that I have to change colour (loosing selection), reselect bricks and than using bucklet. I think LDD3 solution was much better, and using bucklet should not bring to loose the selection. Beside, in the left panel, I think that "Collapse Dividers" and "Flter Bricks by Colour" buttons should be moved from the bottom of the panel to the side of search textfield. -
Thanks... fixed! (the fix will appear in the nex index update). About ordering the index by set number, it is a talk that cyclically appears. There are various reason why I don't order sets by number, and the main reason is that the workload would be too heavy to sustain. I'll add a note to the hint in order to clarify how to use CTRL + F.

@yojeff Same problem for me. Wait that ADHO15 will fix the problem. That set is not "LDD4 compliant" still! EDIT: Oops... anticipated!

You could place the tile even if it don't result connected: look at the model as I modified it (preview image here). About missing pieces and decoration, I think is better to try to find a replacement instead than left that blank.

Lego Building App for iPhone
Calabar replied to Whup's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Exactly! And that's why I thought the "enhanced graphics" feature as something applied temporarily to a static scene, in order to take screenshots or simply admire a finished work! -
Oh yes I based my comments on Zblj quote! And I didn't noticed Tore M was referring to another post... When I noticed that your 8052 was different from LDDtechnician's 8052 I edited my post. I mean that the "model" of the set would be useful for me if written highlighted or next set's name! (so it is easier to notice it!)

Thanks for your availability! You can read all rules of this topic in the first post! You post is irregular because the preview image is too big (no more than 512x512 size allowed). Besides, as Tore M specified above, you forgot to repost that the set is already in the index. EDIT: I see now that your model is not the same already indexed. As there are two (or more) models, you should specify it your model is the "A" one (and LDDtechnician should have report his model was the "B" one ). If you inserted your set before the last index update, remember to clearly report the update.

Lego Building App for iPhone
Calabar replied to Whup's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Hi, as images shows bricks that are a bit "aliased" (due to limited iphone 3D capability, I think), it would be great a feature to improve graphics for a static image: you click an icon and the improved graphics is applied to the scene. As soon as the scene is moved, the graphics turns standard. That feature would be useful to take screenshots with a best looking graphics. Some little questions: how many bricks are supported? How many decorations? Is it possible to import LDD or MLCad files? -
Hi, remember that images can't be quoted in this topic! However the post of that set is irregular and has not been indexed still.

[KEY TOPIC] Wanted bricks in LDD
Calabar replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I'd like to see this windscreen or a similar one to replace it. There are many old sets using this piece, and without it it is impossible to obtain a decent result. -
Any way to toggle brick grid on/off?
Calabar replied to Taseden's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I think it is not possible. However I usually rotate the whole model without problems. Try to reinstall LDD. Anther way could be to raise the model much over the grid, but I'm not sure that this would make the building process more comfortable. -
Thanks! That's true: a single lxf file and a single thumbnail for each model. Beside, the posted image is too big (no more than 512x512 allowed). All the rules of the topic can be read in the first post of this thread.
