Do it at your own risks But if you do, then you must short the device, since it is in series with the motor. BTW, it'a always possible that you have a defective component (eg. broken wire), but I would first try to check the solders, as it's the most probable failure!!!

What you see outside of motor core is not a capacitor, but a current-limiting thermal fuse. You should not remove it, as it protects the motor from burning if it is stalled for a long time. Your best bet is to use LEGO Service, but if you want to do it yourself, the device is a Bourns MF-R050. This has nothing to do with the capacitors that cause problem with PF receiver V2, these capacitors are inside the motor core itself.

Motors comparison page updated

One more problem is that the LiPo battery has an internal current limiting resettable fuse (the same as in other battery packs). It limits current to 0.75 to 1A continuous, and trips in a few seconds at 1.5A. Since one 5292 motor can easily consume more that 2A... -
Lego Technic Figures

They go over the hair. Hairpiece is not supposed to be removable (not glued but there's a little plastic latch). -

Indeed, this comment is somewhat outdated. M-motor is indeed more powerful. But 71427 leaves it in the dust for efficiency. 71427 also has interesting capabilities - it can be easily back-driven (eg. for return to center applications) - it can be used as a generator, even better for that than the E-motor. - it's no-load current is extremely low, making it suitable for energy starved conditions, eg. solar panel experiments Two holes indeed with different speeds. Outmost is the slower one, with more torque. Speed ratio compared with the other hole is 17/23. -

I just uploaded the blank head on Parts Tracker (http://www.ldraw.org...parts/85957.dat) If someone posts a top view photo of the head (or a 600dpi scan) I'll consider doing the pattern... -
Problem with MLCad and Lpub
Philo replied to Alexgri's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I think that the problem you have is that your MLCad is in Edit mode (set square and ruler icon). Steps are only active in View mode (stack of landscape images icon) -
Definitely weird... could you PM me the LeoCAD file (philo_AT_philohome.com)?
-
I see nothing weird - more details, screenshot?
-
Yes, as far as I can remember, LeoCAD always offered the possibility to load and save .ldr files. It is also able to import multipart files with submodels (.mpd) but it "flattens" them. But it is much easier now to have LeoCAD and LDraw parts libraries in sync together.
-
Leonardo Zide just announced a new LeoCAD version! As you can see, the BIG news is that this version can work directly with regular LDraw library. My own tests shows that on some machines, there maybe a speed penalty, as loading library may take a while at startup. Alternatively, you can also zip your LDraw folder (or directly use complete.zip), it's much faster then.

Interesting... that means that the battery box switch shorts the motor, with a brake effect, while the switch leaves it floating free...- 28 replies

9398 Faulty Parts
Philo replied to 750ACE's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Agreed. You should contact LEGO service, hopefully you'll receive a new servo, and they will be aware of a potential problem. I submitted my servo to a lot of stress during testing without problem, but a manufacturing issue can always happen... -
IR Receiver power supply
Philo replied to lilongwe's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Exactly (and fortunately, because at 18V you would fry something for sure). And you better have batteries with very similar characteristics... That said, increasing current may be useful, as you can see in this . -

IR Receiver power supply

V1 motor driver chip is specified at 9V, with a 10.5V absolute maximum rating. So as suggested by Balrog, I'd go with 8 cells (don't forget that freshly charged NiMH are significantly above 1.2V). The added benefit is that you can easily find battery couplers for 8 batteries, but for 9...??? -
Agreed, but aeh5040's includes a bunch of differentials to make control easy, something that doesn't exist (as far as I can see) in Isogawa's crab. Controlling each wheel separately is tricky (but then I tend to be all thumbs ;)
