Fx Bricks (Michael Gale) announces Fx Track system
dr_spock replied to HoMa's topic in LEGO Train Tech
What kind of health issues? Did you look up the material safety data sheets? -
It's pretty easy to drop in a wheel chair or bicycle with LEGO 6 wide removable roof passenger cars. It would be cool if they could mold some pop out sliding doors.
-
That probably explains why his sandcastle is so high.

Here's one way to connect a LEGO motor to an AC wall outlet without cutting any expensive LEGO wires.
-
LEGO motors can be powered by a standard AC to 9V DC wall power supply. You would need to make some adapters to attach to the connectors on the LEGO motors. The Powered UP connectors use pin 1&2 for the motor. PowerFunction uses the C1/C2 pins on the connector for motor.

Looks like there are some non-sand there. Sand purity test failed. Perfect pirate cheating.

I would prefer them to be in a minidoll format instead of Brickheadz. Is there a Spice Girls reunion?

Time to rename Technic bricks?

Holy Bricks, Batman. What do you propose renaming it to? -

Good work squeezing it all in there. -
Lego moving away from flex axles is a mistake
dr_spock replied to sm1995's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I suppose if LEGO won't do it, then you'll have get some soft axles and show 'em how to do it correctly. -
Nice. Reminds me of the fun I had with the one I made a long time ago. Good luck with Ideas.

Control+ General Discussion
dr_spock replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
It's possible the problem is in the app. One time with a new version of the LEGO Powered UP app, I could not get a working bluetooth connection between the hub and my tablet. I had no problems with the previous version of the app. Later on a newer version came out and the bluetooth started working again. -
Advice wanted: Technic frame for 40-foot Star Destroyer

If you're ordering tens of thousand dollars worth of pieces, it would be worthwhile contact LEGO directly and work out a deal. -

DCC (and other digital tech) for LEGO trains
dr_spock replied to McWaffel's topic in LEGO Train Tech
The source code is available for DCC+EX project. It's for Arduino with ESP8266 but it could be fun to translate it to Z80. -

DCC (and other digital tech) for LEGO trains
dr_spock replied to McWaffel's topic in LEGO Train Tech
NXT/EV3/Spike can be used to control track side accessories. Boost could be turned into a blocky locomotive Adding DCC to LEGO has been done by AFOLs before. Many years ago Michael Gale had LEGO train with DCC modules installed running on 9V track and motors. I think the challenge is wiring those small DCC modules. LEGO locomotives don't come with DCC sockets. No easy plug and play or pray. If you can solder, you can make an adapter board that has a DCC socket, PF/PU connectors, speaker connectors, etc. Soldering is one of those handy dandy life skills. -

Nice. Which brand of TPU filament did you use? -
DCC (and other digital tech) for LEGO trains
dr_spock replied to McWaffel's topic in LEGO Train Tech
I think you can build a wireless DCC base station with an Arduino. DCC+ or something like that on github. Run JMRI. As for wyes and loop backs, there are ways to make them work. You may have to put in a gap in the track and/or have some intelligent electrical switching device. I should go through my collection of old Model Railroader magazines. They run articles on how to implement DCC from time to time. -

I'd second arches. -
There is also a WEMOS version of the ESP8266 board. It can be connected to a compatible motor shield. Interestingly, the motor shield uses a STM32F030 chip solely for handling I2C communication with the ESP8266. You can run a web server on the ESP8266 and let the kids control the trains at events through a web browser on their own smartphones (better for Covid protocols). The ESP8266 can function as its own wifi access point so you don't really need to set up a wifi router. Wire the module between your LEGO train motor and battery box and off you go. A simple 5V voltage regulator can provide power to the WEMOS board.

Like those Star Wars movies? -
Batteries do allow some flexibility to where you can bring the club layout display. We run exclusively on batteries at the hospital kid picnics. Weirdly enough, parents and kids at the outdoor events don't seem to care how the trains are powered as much as we do.
