  1. So wonderful to see these neo-classic? creations! Mine is now stickered and has a Powered Up tender. I have removed the battery box base to save some height and fit with the original proportions. Powered Up 7777 Pacific, now complete with stickers by Canvas Rails, on Flickr
  2. Superb, I love the neat pistons and the shape of the running board. My preference would be for a 7 wide tender to match the cab, but I know some prefer a 6 wide tender to better transition between the locomotive and 6 wide rolling stock. It may also be possible to reduce the gap between the tender and the locomotive, there are some nice examples of this on Flickr. An awesome build and thank you for sharing the instructions!
  3. Absolutely stunning! Beautiful techniques and the end result looks true to the prototype. Could you please include this one in your next book?:)
  4. Beautifully true to prototype, but retains LEGO charm. Love it!
  5. A truly beautiful build, congratulations! I particularly like the way you used the protruding ridged bricks on the sides. The lights are a really nice touch too.
  6. Just released on S@H for VIPs. It is very Winter Village and I think the kids will love it. I also believe there will be some excellent MODs that can be done with two (or three) of these. I love that there is a black funnel with a red stripe. Did anyone else get a happy wave of nostalgia when they saw that?
  7. You captured the curves on the nose beautifully!
  8. Very neat. I was thinking the first train use for that gear would be on a turn table but that is very clever
  9. This is a great idea. It is ideas like this that can make running trains more social:)
  10. Hi All, Thank you all for the positive comments, the layout brought many smiles to many faces. And no, I regret that monorail track is not mine:) I have just updated the first post with a video of the CLUG train display at Brickexpo 2016. I have tried to include the most cheesy music possible. Enjoy Rob IMG_4907 by Canvas Rails, on Flickr
  11. 60051 combines nicely with your existing 12v with the addition of surprisingly few parts.
  12. IMG_4907 by Canvas Rails, on Flickr G'day All, The 2016 Brick Expo was held in Canberra this weekend and was a whole lot of fun. We made it a celebration of 50 years of Lego Trains and had blue track, grey (golden) era 12v, 9v, power functions and monorail. So much monorail. For those who couldn't make it due to being in the other hemisphere, there was a 3D scan done late on Friday night that features the train layout so you can do a virtual walk through! I would love to know what you think of the layout and get pointers from the more experienced exhibitors in the group. My easy favourite is the 12v section because it looked like something straight out of the 7777 ideas book. The link is: https://my.matterpor.../?m=VR8uF8vPAwd Here is a news article with some additional information and the scan embedded. http://www.canberrat...729-gqgdbc.html CLUG train group layout at Brick Expo 2016, Canberra. 50 years of Lego Trains 1966-2016 by Canvas Rails, on Flickr Cheers, Rob
  13. That is one of the most beautiful MOCs I have ever seen! The colour scheme, running gear, third piston mechanism, even the stickers are outstanding. I did black and dark blue on a tank engine once ( ) but it is an order of magnitude simpler :) You have an eye for detail, an artist's touch and amazing building skills all together. I can't wait to see what you come up with next. Thanks for sharing your incredible work.
  14. Splendid little locomotive! I love the use of the red 2x2 round plates with the connecting rods. Is it OK to say I think this is the prettiest 'boxcab' yet?
  15. Great solution with the rubber bands. I would not have thought it could transmit enough torque. I must give it a try. Another solution you could use for a six wheeled shunter is pivoting the train motor like on this tank engine. Because the lateral movement is so small it is barely noticable on corners. 16. Look who's turning 50! Thank you Lego for 50 glorious years of Trains. 1966 - 2016. by Canvas Rails, on Flickr For those of you in Australia, Brickexpo 16 will be on 29-31 July and the Canberra LUG (CLUG) will put on a train layout featuring trains and scenery from 1966-2016 to celebrate the 50 year anniversary. I just completed the big 50 that will go on the end table. I'll post a thread with photos of the layout in early August. As I am a little OCD, it stands exactly 50 bricks high. Are any other LUGs planning events to mark the anniversary?
  17. Looks great! It is a huge improvement. You are right; no going back now, you will have to do the whole fleet:)
  18. I'm placing a third vote for you to post the out-take where Captain Jack gets to the top of the escalator! A seriously beautiful build. I love the way you have the classics rolling through too. I love the functionality; you have planned this out like a railway station, not just a display piece. The night time scenes are beautifully shot. I think my favourite part is the lift stopping randomly on different floors. Splendid
  19. I think you can be forgiven the drill:) The lights really complete the effect nicely. If I tried to make this I am sure it would just look like a big brown brick but you have made it look elegant with amazing details in all the right places. Hats off to you, another fantastic build.
  20. The sail on the nose is striking but what blows me away are the curves on the cow catcher. It just looks so 'right'. Great build!
  21. Great build guys. I just supported it. It is a lovely loco and I hope you can brick build it in the future. The colours work very well in Lego form too. My only thought on improvement is that the 1:1 gearing on the M motor is extremely slow, even for a shunter, but you are very limited for space as it is. Is NRM looking at building an SAR themed Lego layout? Because that would be awesome. Best of luck with the project! Rob (Canvas Rails)
  22. Very clever parts use and a great overall effect. Must look superb weaving through points:) I really like the use of gold rings on the lights. Great build!
  23. Love the brick built yellow stripes and the stocky proportions. For the side view, would it be worth adding some black blocks in front and behind the wheels to hint at the chaasis frame? It just looks a bit empty there to my eye. Great build! (and a jolly fine tree too)
  24. Then shared it on a page for people who like to share such things I'm with you on that Duq, if it is similar to the Polar Express, those who want one can mod it and do some custom stickers and everyone gets a train at a lower price point. These are very impressive. A little polybag version would be awesome with the release of the winter train... That is an interesting idea. Both 60052 and 60098 seem to have done quite well in Australia despite their prototypes not being common here. There are some good threads here http://cs.trains.com/trn/f/741/t/208645.aspx and here https://www.quora.com/What-is-the-most-popular-locomotive-in-the-world on the most numerous locomotives in the world but I think Flying Scotsman is the only locomotive to have run in the UK, US and Australia. But I fear TLG would say "Big Green Pacific" has been done.
  25. Absolutely Brick City! I just bought the 31038 Railway Signal Box! (It may have a different name in different regions...) Unfortunately you need to buy two to do the set but no additional parts are required and it comes with the interior detail.
