    Building 7777

So wonderful to see these neo-classic? creations! Mine is now stickered and has a Powered Up tender. I have removed the battery box base to save some height and fit with the original proportions. Powered Up 7777 Pacific, now complete with stickers by Canvas Rails, on Flickr

MOC: Flying Scotsman (with free instructions)

Superb, I love the neat pistons and the shape of the running board. My preference would be for a 7 wide tender to match the cab, but I know some prefer a 6 wide tender to better transition between the locomotive and 6 wide rolling stock. It may also be possible to reduce the gap between the tender and the locomotive, there are some nice examples of this on Flickr. An awesome build and thank you for sharing the instructions!

LEGO VT 11.5 Trans Europ Express (TEE)

Absolutely stunning! Beautiful techniques and the end result looks true to the prototype. Could you please include this one in your next book?:)

    NS Class 6400

Beautifully true to prototype, but retains LEGO charm. Love it!
  5. G'day All, Something different from me today: Something other than steam traction:) Canberra Lego Users Group (CLUG) like many others has a monthly themed build chellenge. This year I have set myself the additional challenge to make all of my MOCs train related. The August build challenge is Horses, in honour of the traditional Horses Birthday. My build is a horse tram based loosely on the trams that ran on the first public railway in South Australia from Goolwa to Port Elliot. (Photo from www.steamranger.org.au) The horse looked too small on 6 wide track so I tried it on narrow gauge and it looked to have much better proportions. It runs on four small train wheels attached to 2x2 plate axle pieces. The gold 2x2 round plates are from the bell in the Pirates of the Caribbean waterwheel set. I hope you like it, Rob

A truly beautiful build, congratulations! I particularly like the way you used the protruding ridged bricks on the sides. The lights are a really nice touch too.

    10254 Winter Holiday Train

Just released on S@H for VIPs. It is very Winter Village and I think the kids will love it. I also believe there will be some excellent MODs that can be done with two (or three) of these. I love that there is a black funnel with a red stripe. Did anyone else get a happy wave of nostalgia when they saw that?

You captured the curves on the nose beautifully!
  9. IMG_4907 by Canvas Rails, on Flickr G'day All, The 2016 Brick Expo was held in Canberra this weekend and was a whole lot of fun. We made it a celebration of 50 years of Lego Trains and had blue track, grey (golden) era 12v, 9v, power functions and monorail. So much monorail. For those who couldn't make it due to being in the other hemisphere, there was a 3D scan done late on Friday night that features the train layout so you can do a virtual walk through! I would love to know what you think of the layout and get pointers from the more experienced exhibitors in the group. My easy favourite is the 12v section because it looked like something straight out of the 7777 ideas book. The link is: https://my.matterpor.../?m=VR8uF8vPAwd Here is a news article with some additional information and the scan embedded. http://www.canberrat...729-gqgdbc.html CLUG train group layout at Brick Expo 2016, Canberra. 50 years of Lego Trains 1966-2016 by Canvas Rails, on Flickr Cheers, Rob
  10. Very neat. I was thinking the first train use for that gear would be on a turn table but that is very clever

This is a great idea. It is ideas like this that can make running trains more social:)

3D Scan of CLUG train layout at Brick Expo

Hi All, Thank you all for the positive comments, the layout brought many smiles to many faces. And no, I regret that monorail track is not mine:) I have just updated the first post with a video of the CLUG train display at Brickexpo 2016. I have tried to include the most cheesy music possible. Enjoy Rob IMG_4907 by Canvas Rails, on Flickr

    60051 extra carriages

60051 combines nicely with your existing 12v with the addition of surprisingly few parts.
  14. That is one of the most beautiful MOCs I have ever seen! The colour scheme, running gear, third piston mechanism, even the stickers are outstanding. I did black and dark blue on a tank engine once ( ) but it is an order of magnitude simpler :) You have an eye for detail, an artist's touch and amazing building skills all together. I can't wait to see what you come up with next. Thanks for sharing your incredible work.

    Glaskasten (Bavarian PtL 2/2)

Splendid little locomotive! I love the use of the red 2x2 round plates with the connecting rods. Is it OK to say I think this is the prettiest 'boxcab' yet?

My try at building a Shunter

Great solution with the rubber bands. I would not have thought it could transmit enough torque. I must give it a try. Another solution you could use for a six wheeled shunter is pivoting the train motor like on this tank engine. Because the lateral movement is so small it is barely noticable on corners. 2016 Lego trains

Look who's turning 50! Thank you Lego for 50 glorious years of Trains. 1966 - 2016. by Canvas Rails, on Flickr For those of you in Australia, Brickexpo 16 will be on 29-31 July and the Canberra LUG (CLUG) will put on a train layout featuring trains and scenery from 1966-2016 to celebrate the 50 year anniversary. I just completed the big 50 that will go on the end table. I'll post a thread with photos of the layout in early August. As I am a little OCD, it stands exactly 50 bricks high. Are any other LUGs planning events to mark the anniversary?

    Conrail GP40 building instructions

Looks great! It is a huge improvement. You are right; no going back now, you will have to do the whole fleet:)

Huge train station MOC of 25.000 bricks

I'm placing a third vote for you to post the out-take where Captain Jack gets to the top of the escalator! A seriously beautiful build. I love the way you have the classics rolling through too. I love the functionality; you have planned this out like a railway station, not just a display piece. The night time scenes are beautifully shot. I think my favourite part is the lift stopping randomly on different floors. Splendid

    E326-004

I think you can be forgiven the drill:) The lights really complete the effect nicely. If I tried to make this I am sure it would just look like a big brown brick but you have made it look elegant with amazing details in all the right places. Hats off to you, another fantastic build.

    [MOC] NYC J3A Dreyfuss Hudson

The sail on the nose is striking but what blows me away are the curves on the cow catcher. It just looks so 'right'. Great build!

[LDD MOC] English Electric 800 Class Locomotive

Great build guys. I just supported it. It is a lovely loco and I hope you can brick build it in the future. The colours work very well in Lego form too. My only thought on improvement is that the 1:1 gearing on the M motor is extremely slow, even for a shunter, but you are very limited for space as it is. Is NRM looking at building an SAR themed Lego layout? Because that would be awesome. Best of luck with the project! Rob (Canvas Rails)

Swiss Electric Crocodile Locomotive (SBB CE 6/8)

Very clever parts use and a great overall effect. Must look superb weaving through points:) I really like the use of gold rings on the lights. Great build!
  24. Good Evening All, What happens when you smash your 60098 red cargo train into a vintage 7725 then rebuild it as one train? I have been trying to work out what to do with my new 60098 red cargo locomotive as it is just not, well, how can I put this kindly? Coal fired enough. It was a great little loco but those curved red 2x2s on the roof were crying out to be turned into a red 0-4-0 saddle tank engine! I used the same basic layout as my dark blue engine but gave her a sturdier (in appearance but not structurally) smoke box, new bunker and static side rods. The side rods are a compromise as I need her to run reliably at Brickexpo in Canberra in July. The added benefit is that this is all unmodified bricks (this time)! After Brickexpo I will look at moving side rods… Fans of 7777 may identify the culprit wielding the spanner. Thank you to Bricksmith, Rail Co, Paperballpark and Chromeknight for giving me the motivation to complete this project. It would be great to have all our little shunters running together one day but I fear they are all a shade too geographically dispersed. FS 214

Love the brick built yellow stripes and the stocky proportions. For the side view, would it be worth adding some black blocks in front and behind the wheels to hint at the chaasis frame? It just looks a bit empty there to my eye. Great build! (and a jolly fine tree too)
