  1. Awesome build. An updated 7740:) Love it.
  2. I think you have a great concept here and if we only got one train up on Lego Ideas I think this would be a great candidate. Good luck and you have my vote.
  3. Great solution, I shall give it a try.
  4. Just to add some more prototype information, I went on it in Australia in 1988. It didn't have the two tenders for that trip. It does remain the only steam engine to have travelled the width of Australia from coast to coast Sydney to Perth (that I know of). Great build and proportions. good luck with the printing.
  5. Lovely scene.
  6. Great use of curves on the tanks!
  7. Awesome, love the cab detail, The proportions are very nice indeed.
  8. Great build! Detailed but not cluttered. Very impressive.
  9. Spectacular, wish I was there.
  10. Stunning. Those domes are amazing!
  11. :) Yes :) While I would love a 7740 it is probably the easiest 12v to add power functions to. Just a shame I missed out in the 80s...
  12. There is also an easy way to light the carriages if you are new to Power Functions:
  13. They make great loads for my track repair train. Must try the piston use, that is brilliant.
  14. Sorry to revive an old thread but I needed to draw attention to the long history of steam monorails. More information is here http://www.monorails.org/tmspages/History.html or Google Image search "Steam Monorail". ...There is a prototype for everything:)
  15. Best of both worlds, great build.
  16. Just awesome. great model.
  17. Awesome build with real depth. Brilliant!
  18. Good luck with your design, it is a real shame the train community has not had much luck with the Ideas site, nothing we put up seems to capture the popular imagination and get the required 27 votes a day unless it is licenced. The world needs a Mallard. YES
  19. I missed out on a 7740 in the 80s. A lasting regret. They take PF so well. This is my proposal for 2015, but I may need some help to bring back the shunter from the golden era of 12v and 9v. All PF are on board with the receiver in the bunker and battery box hidden by the side tanks. I have it up on Ideas at the moment but it is short on support. What are our chances..
  20. I have some photos showing how to open and then conduct a basic repair on a 12v point switch motor here: The trick with opening them is to start levering at the end with the plug and go slowly with a good quality screw driver. Unfortunately from your description it sounds like someone has replaced the internal components with those from a manual switch. I hope this helps.
  21. One thing that hasn't been mentioned is that 2015-2016 is the 50th annaversary of Lego Trains! 323 was released in 1965 and 111 released in 1966. The best reason in the world to return to the 12v / 9v shunter! Hopefully a Mallard too...
  22. Sorry for the year delay in responding, My kids seem to get in the way of playing with lego sometimes:) I am a huge fan of your cutters, they are excellent and would be a lot of fun in the game. The big ships can become a bit unweildy in a general fleet action, I will have to try my hand at making MOC small ships again, unfortunately the last one I did looked like a bus with washing drying on the roof. Yes, you are right, that is a big hole in the rules. While the ship sailing and combat works well with simple mechanics at present, the campaign needs more work. Options we are working on at the moment include winning the game by collecting parrots, monkeys and rum (very piratey) Through to Cap'n Groove, our tech savvy pirate, writing a computer program to generate the random events. There is no initiative element to the game, the players just take turns. By shooting after the movement phase of the player's turn it is difficult to place the ship somewhere it can shoot but not be shot. Cheers, Rob Good News! The Broadside fleet have been accepted for a display at Brickvention in Melbourne Australia 18 - 19 January 2014. Hope to see some of you there. The big question is, will there be enough room for a game or two?...
  23. Well, you have to spend your money on something... so it might as well be awesome!
  24. Hi guys, I love your forum, it is fantastic. You have so many talented creators and artists! I was one of those kids who longed to have a Black Sea Barracuda to pillage with in 1989. Thanks to maturity I was able to spend my sensible income from my sensible job on the fleet of Lego pirate ships I always wanted from E-bay. Then when I got kids of my own I had an excuse to buy 'them' an Imperial Flagship, Red Beard Runner, Queen Anne's Revenge and a Black Pearl! I believe that you will never truly have a mid life crisis if you never truly grow up:) My friends and I now play a game called Broadside! with our 14 ships and 12 islands. It is a great game that is easy to learn and lets you blast away with Lego cannon at opposing ships over a refreshing beverage of your choice. We have the rules and photos of games in progress on our Facebook site at https://www.facebook.com/pages/Broadside-A-Lego-Pirate-Game/231182840248664 and if you feel like a game next time you are in Australia, give me a-hoy.
  25. The islands are all now complete for the Broadside Australian National Championships. This will be the first year featuring a Queen Anne's Revenge and it is anticipated it will run rings around last year's champion the Skull's Eye Schooner.
