using bleach on lego parts?
kungpo replied to Richard Dower's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Here's the topic: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=7167 Although it is based on a technique called Retr0bright http://www.instructables.com/id/DIY-Retrobright-Whitening-solution/ -
using bleach on lego parts?
kungpo replied to Richard Dower's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Don't do it - there is another topic somewhere where you can use peroxide and oxy to reverse the discolouration. Bleach will weaken the plastic. -
Lego 7740 set, upgrading/repairing track options
kungpo replied to beyondtool's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Don't sell anything unless you really have to - one day some nostalgia might hit and you'll regret selling all that (classic) 12V stuff. Still worthwhile converting it to 9V or PF if you want, but there is a charm in seeing (and hearnig) the old 12V stuff working. The bits you are missing should be easy enough to find on Bricklink or eBay. 7740 is a classic - definitely worth hanging on to. Where are you based? -
Do you buy for the parts or the Kit (part II)
kungpo replied to Phantom59's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Both - I always keep an intact set (and I aim to have at least one of every set released) and if I'm working on something else I'll get more copies of a set if it has a lot of useful pieces. Slightly of topic - "kits" versus "sets" - I always called them sets but notice that others refer to them as "kits". To me a "kit" is more like a plastic model kit - you can only make one thing. -

There is a "related" book called Brick By Brick - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Brick-Rewrote-Innovation-Conquered-Industry/dp/1847941176 It looks quite deeply at what went wrong, and then what they did to save the day. Very interesting reading and highly recommended. -
You'll be very happy. The build is good with some interesting techniques. You have to get an Emerald Night as well (if you can bear the cost). Like the Maersk train, the level of detail is fantastic and you won't regret getting it. It's powered (optionally) by an XL motor so you probably have most of the bits to motorise it already. Slowly slowly collect the older ones - the Metroliner is worth having as well as the classic InterCity 7740.

I'm sure I saw something about the spare pieces somewhere on here - something to do with what pieces were most likely to get lost.

Perfect - Thank you! I think I'm almost there with the bits. -
[MOC REVIEW] Grove GMK6400 Mobile Crane
kungpo replied to Blakbird's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
What an amazing MOC! Is there a part list on rebrickable yet? Before I embark on this build I want to make sure I have all the bits! So far got 2x 42009, 1x 9398 plus a few other bits and pieces. I think I have all the other PF parts knocking around and I know I need some more curved panels. -
CoasterDynamix Lego-compatible roller coaster parts

Funnily enough I was just thinking about this as well. I haven't had the time or opportunity to "play" with my sets yet. Was hoping to see some good creations by now to get the creative juices flowing but there doesn't seem to be a great deal out there at the moment. -

[HELP] Dismantle long time mounted Axles and Liftarms
kungpo replied to Kumbbl's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
As an aside, if you bought this on somewhere like eBay and the seller claimed it was Lego, and it turned out to be fake....well it wasn't as described and you should be in a position to get your money back. After all, for genuine Lego it might have been a bargain. As a fake...probably not. -
Renovating trains (so far models 4558 and 4563)
kungpo replied to Garrcomm's topic in LEGO Train Tech
I think I have most of the pieces you need - in "restoring" my Metroliners I picked up a few sets on eBay to make a complete one, so I have a few windows, base plates etc. Send me a list of the bits you need and I'll check what I have. Definitely have all the big windows and probably the small windows too. -

I have quite a few Metroliner spares too, so let me also know via PM what you need and I might be able to help you. -
In terms of hours, probably the 10179 Millenium Falcon. In terms of how much time passed, the Grand Carousel 10196 which was spread over maybe 3 months (don't know why so long -must have been busy with other stuff)

I believe the 10177 Boeing Dreamliner set also came with a display plate. Yes it does! It's the only sticker applied to my copy (to avoid STAMP) although the tail doesn't look quite right without it (but I can live with that).

My rebrickable stats reckons I have about 250K in sets, so including loose parts and unaccounted sets, maybe 500K pieces. I guess that makes me a Lego nut...

Don't cancel in the slight chance you get one. But call a store and see if they have one and can hold it for you. If your S@H goes through then you get two. If you cancel you risk getting none. -
Most beautiful designed technic Models
kungpo replied to Kumbbl's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I like 8109 a lot as well - really clever mechanism. Not really a lover of 8466 though - I think it lacks elegance and doesn't really bring anything new to the party. I think 8043 is particularly good, especially with the way the 4th function on the remote is to switch between drive and operating the arm. -
Hello from the UK - Here is my collection
kungpo replied to Pyropetepete's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
You have to build them! And Peter_M is right - you need to try and get an 8043 as it's a simply awesome set. 8258 and 8285 are also very cool but can be expensive on the secondary market. -
