were are good places to buy castle mocs ?
John Cromwell replied to valon's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I'm not sure there are places to buy castle mocs. If you want official Lego castle sets, try Bricklink or occasionally eBay. Or just do what I do and copy someone else's design or model and you will probably make it your own in the process. That's what I usually do. Hopefully this helps! -
Thanks man! I am a big fan of your ships, especially the older ones you did, since those are more 'Lego-esque' i.e. something Lego could have built for their Pirates line. I will post it as soon as possible!

@zoth33 Thanks! If you want to know how I made them I used this link and compiled them into one document at their right heights and heat-transferred them onto plain white fabric and then cut them all out, obviously.

Are the Dragon Masters and the Black Knights the Same Faction?
John Cromwell replied to John Cromwell's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
My sentiment exactly! -
Thought I would show off the new cloth capes, flags, and a banner that I recently made. Credit to mikall for the designs I used. The Black Knights: And the Black Falcons and Crusaders: Enjoy!

That's a cool idea! I might have to use that sometime. Sweet! Show us when you are done! -
Alright. Are you planning to take better pictures of those angles?

Accessing building interiors
John Cromwell replied to BrickCommander9's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Yeah, the more detailed the outside of the moc is, the harder the it is to show off the inside. Wow!, that is impressive! Points for realism, since castle walls were very thick in real life. Best of luck finding a solution! Actually, you depending on what part of your moc you are wanting to open, you could have a wall that is tiled on the bottom and has a removable section, kind of like this: and here is the wall part: Sorta kinda? -
Accessing building interiors
John Cromwell replied to BrickCommander9's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
In my opinion, hinges are the best way to reveal the interior of a castle, since the outside typically does not have very many details, especially classic-style castles. Like here, for example, @Uter uses hinges to allow the inside of his keep to be seen. Since the keep isn't very big, the rooms aren't terribly dark and the walls are 'smooth' all the way across, allowing easy use of the hinges without any crazy stuff to engineer around. Here's the other side of the same model and here as well you can see the hinges, he doesn't have a picture of the interior. but for building a village structure, I think modular building is the best since if is usually grouped with a bunch of other structures and doesn't have much space around it. -
Very cool! I like the fire mage's head choice, gives him some character. Is there any chance you have pictures of the back and sides? That black blob in the pink stuff looks interesting.

[MOC] The Crusaders King Gregory’s Castle

The pictures are very small. Is there anyway you can make them bigger? I'll definitely give you my opinion when I can see it better! It looks very cool from what I can see!- 8 replies

Well, my complaint is that (to me at least) you kind of made your model into a tower with trees growing out of it but if that's the case, why have parts of the tower just stop? Like right above the printed corner brick the tower just ends... Just looks a little weird to me. But that's a small complaint on an otherwise awesome build! Yeah, I guess Lego thought black trees were better.
-
Very nice! I like the tiled roof especially!
-
This is a great 'modernising' of a classic. However, I dislike the fact that you made the trees brown while the rest of the 'tree' is black. In the original the whole tree was black and the outpost was built into the tree. Just a minor complaint for a really great build!

Castle Igniscia "The castle where the sun rises"
John Cromwell replied to hoiharry's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I like the use of a ship's steering wheel to make the sun. (if that's what that is supposed to be.) Also interesting design for the potion, very cool! -
Well, I guess it's my turn. Here is my only classic 'army', all the rest are just groups of two or three guys from that faction. I'll show off the newer ones a little later. If anyone is interested, I have photos of each 'class' or type of soldier that I use, since Lego never gave the Black Knights a uniform look like the Black Falcons have, with a few exceptions. Here is the second biggest, the Wolfpack.

Old LEGO pirate sets with new minifigures and accesories
John Cromwell replied to Captain Roger's topic in LEGO Pirates
@Captain Roger, how could you commit such sacrilege? Just kidding, I'm just a stickler for not combining old and new sets. (Mostly)... I like it, and the new figures give a little more realism to the older, rougher-around-the-edges sets! -
Yeah, I like them! Ah... sounds cool!
