This is incredibly cute and very atmospheric. Thanks for sharing it. (And I hope your kid didn't do too much of a number on it as I'd love to see more pics. )

False Memories and the Mandela Effect - Lego Edition

As far as potential goes, I think you might like this... It's an MOC series of vignettes from BetWBricks using parts from the Orient Adventurers series, and I think they did a bang up job.

False Memories and the Mandela Effect - Lego Edition

Well the "lid" does pop up off the sarcophagus in 5938 Oasis Ambush revealing the skeleton, it's just not the skeleton itself popping up. There's also a lid lifting to reveal a mummy in the Scooby-doo 75900 if you're thinking more recent stuff. As for the old stuff, not sure how old a set you'd be likely to recall, 3722 Treasure Tomb combined a bunch of those elements (you lift the skeleton with Egyptian headdress in his sarcophagus to get to a jewel hidden beneath him, and also rotate the door to the side to reveal a trap door with snakes and... maybe more jewels... That bit is a little fuzzy, it's been too long.) 5958 Mummy's Tomb had a mummy that rotated to face you bearing treasure, with an alternative build pictured in which something gets lowered and he suddenly appears behind it... (Half of those alt builds were pretty out there, makes me sort of wish I built less literally these days.) Almost every second one of those old Egyptian archeology sets had a feature like that, if you have a nose around. They were pretty great. (Adventurers ran from 1998 to 2003 and covered a bunch of localities (Dino Island, Egypt, Jungle, and Orient Expedition; Johnny Thunder! Gail Storm! Harry Cane! Dr. Kilroy! and Lord Sam Sinister / Baron von Barron!), Pharaoh's Quest - a more recent update on the Egyptian theme - was released in 2011 and covered some of the same ground, although I think with a little less charm and humour.) 2996 Adventurer's Car had the sarcophagus, mummy and double doors that could swing open to reveal whatever... Man, I have a bunch of these in storage I really need to dust off... lol I loved that series.

    Harry Potter 2020 - Rumors & Discussion

Thank you for going to the trouble to capture/post/find that. You're right, it's a much better fit, and oddly that does make a difference for me. (Still can't warm to the pink, but that's another matter. ) Except they wouldn't have to do too much imagining, as most of the characters (and sets for that matter) were developed for the Lego HP games. (And I suspect there is plenty of overlap in the audiences.) They'd just have to decide if they're willing to stick with those designs or want to make changes. I was just contrasting the game version to the more recent minifig release of Nearly Headless Nick, and while it's clearly been updated and polished, you can still very clearly see its roots in the video game design. Fine, some need more than a little polishing (Peeves and probably Binns, for instance), but I'd be dead chuffed for that version of Pomfrey, wouldn't have to change a thing... Speaking of, that hat was never released, was it? I've scoured bricklink and didn't find anything comparable. @Jarreth2 - like your young marauders. Got a giggle out of Sirius having Petunia's hair. @Modal Nice mod! Instant improvement, and I like the way you interpreted the style. Wondering, has anyone tried mirroring the DA builds (Scribbulus / F&B, Daily Prophet / QQS)? WWW seems sort of the natural "destination" on the right the way the street is set up, and it feels like the putting the smaller buildings to the left instead of the right in their individual segments would help balance them a little. Alternatively, anyone good with photoshop?

    Harry Potter 2020 - Rumors & Discussion

The blue, grey and olive are all *so* much better than the pink. In the original (never mind the fact QQS wasn't actually on that side of the street, and I swear they put it in to save parts vs. Wiseacre's (and because boys like brooms, apparently )), QQS is much smaller. In the D.A. set, though, it's the only building that goes the full width, even WWW yields some of the width to the passageway to Knockturn Alley. The movie version of QQS also had bay windows that extended out from the building on the first floor (or second in the US). That broke up what there was of the pink, and the pink was also more subtle. (I really hate that in a set that's this expensive, I'm seriously calculating what it would cost additionally to swap out WWW's lilac (light grey I think) and QQS's pink (I'm leaning blue or olive).) One change that really helped a lot was @Micmac 's mod to the roofline. (on flickr (his instagram was even better, but I don't IG, so I'll let him provide the link)) That did wonders for the build. He's since built another version where he adjusted the size some, "abused" the stucco more and shifted the windows iirc, which helped with the pink. (I'm more partial to the first variation.) Loved the WWW changes, too. Any idea how stud.io rates in comparison?

So I checked bricklink. Ignoring the 111 heads with no date of issue, white pupil highlights go back as far as 1996. As for 2001, almost all of the HP figs have them, except Hagrid and maybe Dumbledore. (His pic isn't too clear.) I so need a greyscale jester's hat!

    Harry Potter 2020 - Rumors & Discussion

Wow! Absolutely brilliant! Well recognised, especially as I conflated the representation of the bone mending charm (not sure if it was canonically an Episkey) with the skelegrow, but that must have been it. It makes perfect sense in the old quidditch practice set 4726, too. Seeing as we've never had an infirmary in the earlier sets or a Pomfrey, and it isn't in either of the old sets with Lockhart, that must have been the thing I was trying to recall. Thank you! ... aaaaand now I want a DADA classroom with Lupin, Neville, Boggart Snape and the Bogart cabinet in the next group. (I don't think we've ever had a cabinet as such... Just that swivel door in 4752.)

    Harry Potter 2020 - Rumors & Discussion

Yeah, between that and Sod's law... Seems like the more I want it, the less likely they are to go there. (Really wanted Hagrid's motorbike in the Privet Drive set, for example; we got yet another car instead.) Although to be fair, I think a good portion of wanting a thing is because they haven't gone and aren't likely to go somewhere. But! They did release a Peeves in the first series (2001), and he never made it to the movies either, so I live in hope. (Yeah, my tastes skew more bookwards.) Curious, along those lines, how much does that influence most of your (crack) wish lists (book vs. movie content), and does anyone find themselves wanting a purely movie character like Nigel Wolpert or Bem? (Can't presently think of another - maybe how they swapped Blaise in for Crabbe in DH2 - but you get the idea...) And now I'd really like a Pomfrey bearing Skele-grow CMF... Preferably not a printed tile. (I swear there was one in an early set, flask with bone maybe, but I can't find it on bricklink right now. Does anyone remember something like that? A 1x2 printed tile?) If they went all out, they could do a flask with a printed bone, similar to the Monster Scientist's from CMF series 14. Ooooo! Yes! Please! Petrification victims! Hermione could have a page on basilisks with a note, "pipes". Didn't know how much I wanted it until you mentioned it. I'm worried we'd just get a cloth skirt which is often iffy for the size. (Think: Lisa Simpson.) Or worse, a printed 1x2 block. What would you like to see by way of printing? I'm trying to picture it. Damn, right you are, my bad. I had just looked at that set in the shop and groaned, not another Harry/Cho/Draco... (Don't understand how we went from no Chos to apparently four in one series, and individual ones at that. (A little salty, because I need uniforms...) If it's about more diversity, very welcome, but pretty please give me a Blaise and a Lee.) The one extra fig wasn't enough to make up for the three repeats at that price.

    Harry Potter 2020 - Rumors & Discussion

I had seen two leaked pictures on IG, both from a catalogue, one included some text in German as to the products. I figured Promobricks had taken the descriptions from that, possibly in its original (not photographed) form. (I'm assuming that's what TLG ship to the buyers of stores so they can place their orders.) Diggory especially was three years older. It's a very odd choice, and so typical of the lack of Hufflepuff love in the series's treatment. Like they couldn't think of any others? How about giving us Hannah or Ernie or Justin?? There were seven core courses (Transfiguration, Potions, Charms, Herbology (representing the four houses neatly), DADA (ever rotating profs, but this would be a nice way to offer us an affordable Lockhart (and pixies!) or cheaper Lupin), Astronomy, History of Magic (Binns!)) and five electives offered from third year on (Divination, CoMC, Ancient Runes, Arithmancy, and Muggle Studies). Of the core courses, Astronomy might be a hard sell, though, as most people are hard pressed to name the instructor, and I don't think the actress had a single line in the films. Similarly, Ancient Runes and Arithmancy may as well have never taken place. Duelling Club is a very nice idea. Or Divination could be done a second time with Firenze (the nag!) in his forest classroom, because it was very different to Trelawney's and he focused more on stars, and she was all about the tea leaves... Maybe Frog choir, but I'm not sure what you could put in it beyond Flitwick (yet again), two students and a bunch of frogs... Maybe the library with Pince, but libraries tend to have high piece counts. Personally, for all the time they spent there, I wouldn't mind more fittings for an Infirmary (or at least a Poppy Pomfrey as a CMF), and I would really love a set of the houses (which almost guarantees it'll never happen... ), each with the house ghost and two students. (But then I guess they pared the ghosts back for the movies... ) And I don't understand why they're so reluctant to give us different uniforms. Not everyone identifies Gryffindor. Curious, what would you want them to include beyond the two students & teacher format, each with brooms? Neville's Remembrall was the only thing that came to my mind.

    Harry Potter 2020 - Rumors & Discussion

It looks like they're including at least one Gryffindor student with each of the sets, which is a shame. I was looking forward to finally getting some uniforms from other houses. And I absolutely don't need four Chos in this series. As far as Ravenclaws go, Luna was a much more central character and we've only had four of her. And aside from the Quidditch set, we haven't had any Slytherins but Draco, and those were both upper classmen. There were so many to choose from, but we're getting Seamus instead?

    Harry Potter 2020 - Rumors & Discussion

I was wondering to what extent the virus and any initial problems adjusting to workplace / workflow changes it caused may have driven the choices behind that very different winter wave. I know a lot of people whose businesses had to adjust to people working from home. (Hubs, for example, spent six months working exclusively from home, and has only last month begun returning to the office one or two days a week. By design, when he's there, the majority of his colleagues are not.) Something like that has to throw a major spanner in the works in terms of your creative development process. I'm not sure when they usually start work on their sets, or how long they typically take from conception to reach production, but the rumours I'd read about the January releases felt a lot like a stopgap to tide us over until we could get back to business as usual (ish) come summer 2021. Anyone have details they can offer as to how it's usually done, or even better, as to how 2020 may have affected TLG's process?

    Harry Potter 2020 - Rumors & Discussion

Snape treating Albus' arm after he retrieves the Gaunts' ring. HBP / DH flashback The Headmaster's office, Albus telling Snape they'll have to sacrifice Harry, Snape sending the doe off, "Always." DH flashback (If they made the sword retrieval scene and the cursed arm scene, we wouldn't need this one separately.) Some version of Arthur having been attacked in the DoM. Either the attack or the recovery. Maybe St. Mungo's. The Longbottoms, Lockhart... HBP "Damage packs" to make DA and Hogsmeade look shabbier once the Death Eaters come to power. Wanted posters, broken windows, boards to cover windows. DH

    Harry Potter 2020 - Rumors & Discussion

Not sure about years, but I can think of a number of sets... in addition to the DA sets, there's Hogsmeade - the three Broomsticks and the Hogshead. (Rosmerta, Aberforth, Portrait of Ariana.) Honeyduke's. Madam Puddifoot's tea room. Katie Bell and the cursed necklace. HBP Snape teaching Harry Occlumency. HBP Ron getting dosed with the love potion, getting cured, getting poisoned and landing in the Infirmary. We've already got two Slughorns, but we could use some furniture for his lounge, the love potion / chocolates, the port Sluggy offers the boys, a Poppy Pomfrey to care for Ron. (We have the Infirmary.) (This would make a decent advent calendar.) HBP Albus showing Harry Riddle's exploits in the Pensieve... HBP Scrimgeour and Albus' bequeathals, presenting the Tales of Beedle Bard, the Deluminator and the Snitch to HRH. (All four of those would make decent CMFs.) DH Maybe the Potters' grave, the Christmas scene with Harry and Hermione. It was touching, but perhaps too much of a downer for Lego DH Nagina masquerading as Bathilda Bagshot could be interesting, but the cottage would probably be too much. I'd be very curious to see some rendition of that scene, though. Armchair, bed, table, little old lady... Harry spends the next several months with a broken wand thanks to that scene. DH (I could also see both of those as part of an advent calendar, but unfortunately that's probably too dark.) The scene where Harry follows Snape's doe to the lake to retrieve the sword, and where Ron returns and fishes him out of the water. (Small set like the one with Sirius and Harry's Patrons. Harry, locket, doe, Ron, water, sword, maybe a rock for the shore. If we're pushing the envelope a little, Snape hiding behind a tree.) DH The tent. Ron and his Deluminator. Complete with the dread locket of misery, it could stand in for the scenes of Ron leaving or returning. (Tent, cot, Harry, Hermione, Ron, locket.) DH Flight from the snatchers... Tricky, because how many trees do we really want, or HRHs for that matter? But I'd like to see Scabior at least in a CMF version DH Malfoy Manor. There was that concept sketch for a smaller set from years ago... Something in that line. I can't see them issuing the torture scene per se, and they've kindly given us two Bellatrixes already , but Harry's swollen and unrecognisable face, Draco not identifying him, Narcissa dithering, or Pettigrew's moment of hesitation, recognising his debt to Harry (that leads to his arm killing him...) DH Gringotts I could see making two sets out of, one the above ground floors, possibly with the dragon, and a second smaller one, maybe about the size of the RoR, Bellatrix's vault. Room of Hidden Things. Piles of stuff, Rowena's Diadem, maybe some Fiendfyre... DH Going back to the older books... Devil's Snare, the Winged Keys, Chessboard, Potions Challenge PS The Bogart Cabinet PoA

    Harry Potter 2020 - Rumors & Discussion

Had a rotten summer and the family chipped in and treated me to this set to help make up for it. I'm usually not a fan of microscale and actually had DA on my wishlist instead of this set, but I'm definitely a fan now. The attention to detail... It's been on the dining table for a month and a half, and I never get away with that. The thing is gorgeous, absolutely stunning. (Plus the pink gelatinous cube has turned me off DA for the time being.) Things that could get boring, like the windows or the rocks, are improved by their varying of the design. If you're a stickler for accuracy, that helps keep you on your toes. (And if that doesn't do it, turn the instructions upside down while building. ) Anyway I enjoyed it far more than I ever thought I would, fwiw.

    Harry Potter 2020 - Rumors & Discussion

Thanks! I kind of liked the old stackable design, that they often weren't such expensive sets, and the ability to pick and choose the scenes I liked more. For instance I gave Fluffy and co. a pass but got the potions classroom. I've got more money to spend on it now (although less and less space lol), but can still feel the appeal of having smaller scenes on offer. Some of the rooms feel too pokey with the current design, more like they've been referenced but aren't playable or missing relevant bits. (Like Slughorn's office doesn't really matter (aside from repurposing it to be Flitwick's for Dumbldore's death), but Sluggy's lounge and the scene where Ron is poisoned does, but isn't present.) Bellatrix is also in the CMF series 2 (albeit in prison garb, but present). I would love a smallish Malfoy Manor Set, but I think my limit would be 65 as the max, so there's no way they could do more than a scene that way. That said, if they realised that sketch as a set, I'd be all over it. Given we got a basilisk (of sorts) with the Great Hall set and a buildable Fawkes, I can't see them making a CoS era CoS. A DH version maybe. Adding Pansy Parkinson to the list of minifigs I'd like. (Caveat that as the actress changed a couple of times, I don't even know what I think she should look like, but a black bob would be a good start.)

Hope this is alright for this thread; sorry if not. A friend in the states recently asked me where she could get a box of the new minifigs. I don't really pay much attention to shopping over there (mostly because your prices always seem to be better lol; further advantages to low VAT), but seem to recall seeing minifiguremaddness mentioned a number of times lately. Is that where you'd usually go for a box of figs, or is it because of delivery issues with the usual suppliers? (And do you pay customs fees on top of that? And is the VAT refunded?) Also, does anyone know which store chains carry the blind bags over there (assuming one were willing to risk a run to the shops...)?

Cheers! Eventually discovered your flickr from the mention on instagram. Glad it's still up there; it's demonstrating that it isn't as easy a solve as I'd've liked. If I want to keep the unequal display windows (and I now do) then the door shifts, and that in turn crowds the window placement on the first floor... Hmm... Perhaps a smaller window on that floor as well? Decisions, decisions... You're a champ for doing these. Thanks again.

    Harry Potter 2020 - Rumors & Discussion

Hey did you remove it from your instagram? I thought it was beautifully done and really illustrated how to correct some things that bugged, while helping to make clear why some of the design as is decisions make sense. (Unequal windows on the street level help make the DA line-up a little less ordered while also leaving more space for a broom display. (In the film, it only had the one wide window, for instance.) The second small one here gives us a spot to display a mannequin, which is pretty clever. Now that I've recognised that, I'm happier with their design, but still feel like the colour or arrangement of the first floor windows/ roofline needs addressing, and that was something else you had tackled.) Anyway, looking at your photoshopped version was giving me some ideas, but when I went to refer to it today, I could no longer find it. (And thanks for doing it in the first place.) Stonewars.de had captured the specs / description when the Lego site recently inadvertently published them: "Measuring over 11” (29cm) high, 40” (102cm) wide and 5” (13cm) deep, this LEGO® Harry Potter Diagon Alley set is crammed to the rooftops with authentic details."

(The latter may be only available as a gift in the Lego stores, though. It wasn't clear yet.)

The Leaky (complete with entrance to DA)! Borgin and Burkes, Madam Malkin's (where Harry meets Draco), the Eeylops Owl Emporium (where Hagrid buys Hedwig), the Magical Menagerie (the pet store where Hermione rescues Crooks and Ron goes to get some tonic to pep up Scabbers), Slug and Jiggers Apothecary (Potions), Dogweed and Deathcap (Potions ingredients - that might have been Hogsmeade, though, now that I think about it), and there's also a tea shop... I'm happiest about F&B and Ollivander's, most sorry about not getting B&B, Gringotts and the Leaky, and most disappointed by the gelatinous pink cube. I just knew they were going to give us a large Quidditch store, because the interior is cheap as chips. For the price, I was expecting something else.
