  1. I'll second the masked mini's suggestion. I did one additional starting 5 way pass and that was technic bricks / conventional bricks / wheels / pins and axles / stuff I figured I'd never use. I saved the color sort for last.
  2. A big thank you You won't believe it but that's "Screen Door Molding" over here. Thanks, Ed
  3. Now that it's finished I have a question. What were those slats called at the place you bought them? What is B&Q for us dumb colonials

    Slopes on sides

kodlovaq Much larger like storage tanks at a refinery.

    Slopes on sides

There are a gazillion curved slopes. I was wondering if anyone had built a large diameter tank by stacking slopes with some sort of a structure holding it together. The snot bricks would serve as anchors, but I can't figure if any of the curved slopes can be fashioned into a circle. Thanx Ed
  6. Since I'm mainly interested in Technic and the store's pab wall pretty much ignores Technic, I buy kits, assemble them, then use the parts. Also some purchased from Bricklink vendors.
  7. mxwinters Lookin' good. You might want to make a real simple addition to your desk. If you have some scrap wood. Cut a thin strip and glue/nail it to all edges of the table, so the edge has a lip of about 1/8". I've done this on both of my building tables and have saved tons of time that I used to spend bending over and looking on the floor for pieces.

    Alternatives to technic chain links?

Take a look at these. https://www.micromark.com/Web Store Images/8527M_85271_R-1.jpg
  9. I use tubs for my secondary storage and in your design you don't have to leave the lids on.
  10. If you are interested in 'workers with hard hats' the cheapest way to get figures is with 60184-Mining Team. They sell for 9.99 and contain 4 workers, which makes it cheaper than building figures at the store for 3/$10
  11. Based on the location, I believe they are looking for Asiatic figures.
  12. Just noticed, and will most assuredly the use of racks in lieu of actuators.
  13. I'm not going to finish my big project for a while, so I was thinking of displaying the first part in an "under construction" format. I have been looking at mocs and can't really tell their true dimensions. Does any one have a crane like I want, or a link to the drawings/instructions to one. The Lego one would look too spindly. I saw one in a Lego City illustration but could never find the drawings. It should have a fixed base. And yes the Moc is tall Thanx for any help. Ed
  14. Thanks, that looks nice. I wasn't thinking of luffing but who knows I like the vertical construction. Since it will be static most of the time, the 7905 with a couple more segments and a second set of braces also looks good. Thanx, Ed
  15. Placing a long technic liftarm and fitting it's holes to a long technic brick's studs, makes a very strong connection. Is it a 'legal' Lego connection?
  16. I'm on my second big project including instructions as I go. These are all circular structures, braced on the inside. I tried drawing with collision on, but the time element was tooooo great. I physically insure that all components snap together, but the tolerance parameters differ between studio and real life. The step illustrations generated by the software, ignore collision, and produce a render with some obvious glitches I compensated for this by adding some written comments in the introductory material. The long range illustrations a very good, with distance making Is this a satisfactory approach? Any suggestions?
  17. Hasn't the issue of cylindrical construction and studio come up in your building? I'll try and get one together later.
  18. Actually I was looking for ideas and suggestions, How do you handle it?
  19. Getting lost in the possibilities is the least of my worries. I build and draw at the same time. If the drawing does not show me something to improve, the the building effort will show me something that needs to be drawn different. Vicious circle!!!
  20. Just starting to use and cannot find instructions or manuals - just empty pages and non-functioning help. F1 just gives a menu but nothing links. Is this a temporary problem? If not is there similar software available?
  21. Thanks - I found out how and fixed the file by unblocking the .chm file.
  22. I have built several, with more to come, circular structures. When they are completed they are fitted to a base plate using 1x2 and offset plates. This does entail some stressing, but I have had no problems in the couple of years I've been working on this project. The structures are braced internally and I again use small turntables and offset plates, etc to support normal technic bricks. Every thing ends up solid. I'd like to do drawings and instructions. Therein lies the problem. The above techniques defy drawing a complete structure. My current thoughts are to draw the base, but never use it. Float the structure above it with all the bracing shown and then give written notes as to how to put it together. Does anyone have any ideas? Technical note - All my bracing starts connecting to the structure above the third level, and by that time the stresses on the structure have naturally worked themselves out. One of my test structures is attached https://www.dropbox.com/sh/fqxsw8vfzmrymwy/AAA__P_LbXweHJredEq4q81va?dl=0
  23. When the mountain won't come to you - you go to the mountain. I solved the problem by moving the offset and 1x2 plates to where the circle would fit - not the other way. This results in a 'legal' circle of slightly shorter diameter. I believe I can place the rest of the pieces ok, since the number of pieces in the circle has not changed. Hope I have enough 1x2 offsets
