[MOC] Microscale: Bucket Wheel Excavator [42055]
Gonkius replied to Gonkius's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Ahhh... sorry, sometimes I cannot read... The truck base is a 2L liftarm with 4 round plates, the transparent slope and with tooth are not connected to the base at all.- 12 replies

[MOC] Microscale: Bucket Wheel Excavator [42055]
Gonkius replied to Gonkius's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Its a Technic disc 2958 placed on some technic connectors. I must warn if you're going to build this: The rotating front gear is not yet available in yellow. But you can always build my nanoscale version of the same set:- 12 replies

[TC13] Pentagon Clock - Wind-up Pendulum Clock
Gonkius replied to Didumos69's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Good luck to have a ratchet mechanism during wind-up - the clock will probably stop immediately during wind-up due to the friction everywhere. I ended up with a differential mechanism instead to not loose torque during wind-up. If you need inspiration look into my automatic self-winding, and self-adjusting, clock. If you like to find solutions of your own, don't look... https://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?/forums/topic/113864-moc-fully-automatic-clock/ -
[MOC] One small Bumblebee and a small Wasp

Thanks. I should mention the hidden sausage inside the wasp body to get the bent shape... -

This is my entry in the Swebrick contest to build Star Wars scenes in the 32x32 format. When the other are focusing on laser fights and spaceships, I looked for a more unusual scene: Anakin and Padme spends time at the meadow in Lake Country, episode II. Padme is not very amused when Anakin rides the Shaak. Anakin rides the Shaak by gonkius, on Flickr Anakin rides the Shaak by gonkius, on Flickr

[MOC] Anakin rides a Shaak in Lake Country (Ep II)
Gonkius replied to Gonkius's topic in LEGO Star Wars
The challenge was to build the most important SW scenes in a 32x32 format - this is not one of them. As an extra challenge I decided to build it using the bricks I had in stock without placing any extra BL-orders. This lead to some limitations, especially concerning the mountain and waterfall as you all can see, but also in the selection of minifigure parts. (I was expecting comments about Padmes utility belt...) Anakin's arm is done using a piece of pneumatic tube. -
[MOC] Gräjjs 5.1 - Kinetic Sculpture Thingy
Gonkius posted a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
This kinetic sculpture started after I designed the ball structure using 12 BWE yellow gear sections. Then I added more and more rotating objects inside and outside of the ball. There are five objects in total that rotates with individual rotations, the two smallest have their rotation off-axis to make it as complicated as possible... The smallest object even has internal gears to get an extra moving feature. Lighting is done using Arduino controlled LEDs inside the base. UV-LED illuminates the flourescent colours inside the objects. There are two PF-motors in the base controlled from an IR-receiver and a train controller. Check out the Youtube video. Thanks for the feedback! I'd say the position of the nacells are quite as they should when looking on Enterprise-D. All other versions of Enterprise however have the nacells higher. Small impulse drives can be nice touch. Hopefully I'll go on for a much larger model, this was done as a "feasibility study" to learn the shapes better. Elliptical saucer for one thing, couldn't do this at this scale. Plan to use some of the techniques I used on the Tintin rocket to get the smooth surfaces needed.

My mechanical clocks
Gonkius replied to Davidz90's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Forcing a pendulum, by using an electrognet, to a frequency that is even the slightest off its natural frequency will need larger forces than you expect, to get any amlitude at all, just a warning from my side. Everyone has got their own threshold what is acceptable modifications to LEGO pieces. My simple rule is that any modification that cannot be undone is not accepted, I would never convert a motor to an electromagnet by replacing the inside as I read in another thread, but that's me, you are free to think otherwise. If you in any case will have an electrical timebase in some way, you could always build a stepper motor, similar what you find in quartz watches. -
My mechanical clocks
Gonkius replied to Davidz90's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
The counterweight is 11.5g each according to my scale. Length is slightly less than 4 studs with one cross axle hole. I'm planning to make a gyro stabilization using a lot of these in another build I'm working on. The larger boatweight is about 55g. Any idea how to make an electromagnet using LEGO parts? Probably very difficult to adjust a pendulum frequency by using an external force however. -
My mechanical clocks
Gonkius replied to Davidz90's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Nice start to make a clock. Like the mechanism. Don't like the non-LEGO parts. I used a few 53g boat/train weights ( 73090b ) in my own self-winding and self-adjusted clock, which is not very large, much smaller than most LEGO clocks. There is also the steel counterweight ( 70163 ) available that can be used in the pendulum. So far I should not call this a clock, more like a machine that ticks. I don't see why a geared downed hour hand would increase the friction on the pendulum more than marginally. Keep up the progress, you have many inspiring challenges before you! -

GBC balls
Gonkius replied to Phantom59's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
The Chinese ebay beads have holes and imho is not very good, they also bounce much easier. I bought these marbles that are very similar in most aspects to the LEGO balls. I found these cheap in a Swedish webshop, do not know how to buy in other countries... https://www.quercettistore.com/en/toys/marble-run/2530-marbles -
Inspiration from album cover taken for the Pink Floyd Animals album during 3 days in 1976 in London, 40 years ago. A 12m inflatable pig filled with Helium was placed between the massive chimneys. It blew away and stopped all traffic on Heathrow... (A piece of hair is used for the flying pig)

Amazing build! I will definitely build one myself.

Was about to ask you what bearing you'd used, but did a quick try myself and found that the 1x1 round tiles runs really smooth in the slot. -

Thanks! Photographing was actually inspired from the film Gravity where they used a similar technique to get realistic illumination and reflections in the faces and helmets of the actors, using a pre-visualisation on a large screen showing, mostly, the earth.

Thanks for your comments. The picture is a composite of four pictures: - Photograph of the model with a soft camera flash. - Photograph without flash but with a computer screen as background to get reflections in the body. - Photograph with UV-LEDs as only light source. Trans-Medium Blue and Trans-Neon Orange pieces will glow nicely in UV light. - Background picture of the planet. See picture below with all four used photographs before editing. The spaceship was cut out in each picture and placed in separate layers in PhotoShop and finally the background picture (And text + stars) was added (And everything rotated 180° of course).
