    Original Bionicle vs CCBS discussion

I like both, I mix both. I don't see why everything must be a contest. Bionicle may have a cooler style to some, but that style rather aggressively seperates it from some things you can make. Hard to do simple and clean with little pistons and pin holes and dots everywhere.

Whoa whoa whoa, you're trying to tell me a massive corperation held a nonsensical contest and aren't playing it fairly at all? Shocked, I am SHOCKED. :P But in seriousness, I'm surprised anyone's, well, surprised. This contest is so silly and totally up to interpretation. For example, those two entries by the same person that both won don't make any sense. If the goal was to find a face in something, the helmet shouldn't have won as there's no face in it I can see. If the goal is to find something that looks like a mask, the whistle shouldn't have won. That doesn't look like a Bionice mask at all. (unless you count the very un-Bionicle doodles used for random Matoran in the occasional comic or illustration) They've built a competition around finding something that's not there. I'm not surprised they're not giving a hoot about fairness or rules.

    Bionicle Toa Alternate Builds

It's a shame this thread hasn't had more traffic despite sitting on page one. I'd love to see more Toa mods and revamps! I don't have good pictures of all of mine, but I did recently photograph my Pohatu: My goal was to give him more of a distinct look like Lewa and Gali while still evoking the original set and looking like a "stock" set. So I tweaked the colours just ever so slightly (two extra brown shells and added gunmetal to tie in the boomerangs) added a bit of height and wider shoulders, made the boomerangs back-mounted wings for "adrenaline mode" and added the green electric spikes so he had some idenifiable armour part like Lewa's collar things or Gali's tall shoulder armour.

What was the worst construction set?

How do they "not count?" They're part of his body, not some optional feature that can be ignored. That's like saying OG Tahu Mata is awful because "he lacks a head. (and no, the head he comes with doesn't count)"Also, the stick-thin bodies were cool. They made them look super creepy and lanky like half-fish-half-insects, and insects are cool.

While I'd probably say the air mask is my least favourite of the new Toa too, I still like it. I just like everyone else's more. It certainly looks like an air-elemental mask with the vents and sheilded face, and it's got just enough of the old Miru's smile/jaw to imply a less stoic personality. It helps that I've long since stopped considering the new Toa the same characters exactly, and just new interpretations of them, so any incongruities are easily dismissed.

People were complaining even back in 2001 with Pohatu using an inverted torso, or teh Bohrok being too similar. People complain about everything. I'm totally satisfied with the mask designs and CCBS, and if the body designs don't satisfy me, I rebuild them.

I agree. Nothing says the torsos and shins have to be used as torsos and shins. I could see maybe the shins used for the tops of wings in official sets, weapons, or maybe even feathers in MOCs with huge wings. The big torsos, should they ever show up unprinted, could easily be used creatively on figure backs, or a character with gigantic arms.

Also the Hau doesn't have horns, and despite Tahu being farther back, his mask is larger than Grinder's.Grinder isn't wearing a Hau.

I don't know what's more depressing. Someone crying over toy pictures or swearing to a fictional deity. :(

    Death battle

How? I mean, I'd like to imagine Gali isn't rock stupid enough to create a plum of water from her body to her enemies, and would instead materialize the water off her person, as the Toa often do with their powers. Especially if it was Gali Nuva, where the Toa Nuva had many tricks they could pull with their elements, like "time bombs."I mean, the Toa are essentially demigods of their elements. And as Bigger Fish said, the Heroes weren't exactly the most logically designed robots. Despite their multiple gimmicks and tech, they were incredibly reserved and even often bumbling in their use. (this was largely due to that fact that most Hero abilities are simply the product of narrative convenience and sloppy writing) Also I believe the word you're looking for is "intangible." Also, a Toa's elemental energy takes a lot of use to run dry, even for normal Toa. Nuva can fight even longer.

"Grinder" sounds worse than "Destroyer" to me because of how "destroy" is sort of the PG word for kill, but "grinder" brings to mind actual violence.

Hero Factory was also dog-awful and had less story substance over five years than G2 Bionicle has already.

"Okoto" means a balance between work and recreation, and something one cannot live without.

Yeah, I want the main six to be the stars for a little while, but "elite Protectors" with names and unique masks sounds pretty good. As it stands I just pronounce the abbreviation for the Protectors as names. It's funny.

[REVIEW]: 70785 Pohatu Master of Stone

Is piece count even still a thing with non-system sets? I mean, yeah the pice count is lower, but they're bigger pieces in a bigger set. You act like less pieces equals less set.

[REVIEW]: 70784 Lewa: Master of Jungle

It deffinitely doesn't look more like Onua's. Like, aside from having two eyes and a hole at the top, they're in no way similar. Well, that's so he has swords when the axe heads are turned into wingfans. Otherwise they're the handle of the axes, and he's just gripping up near the top. Then again I'll be turning the axes into swords when I get mine anyway.

    [REVIEW]: 70783 Protector of Fire

That's just it, what elbows? Yeah, he deffinitely needs new arms all around. Then again adding upper arms shouldn't be hard, but I kind of wish I had an idea of what to do with the weapon situation.

[REVIEW]: 70784 Lewa: Master of Jungle

Sickening, eh? I mean I guess if toys sicken you... the mask doesn't really look like the original Pakari. Maybe in loose shape. I don't remember the Pakari having a plated look. I do remember it looking awesome, though, so I would think anything resembling it would look good as a result? You mean axes? Didn't the original Lewa have, like, an axe as well? How nice of you to not judge. :) I guess I'll just have to resolve to my opinion being that your opinion doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

I don't think that's true, of any of the Toa in fact.

[REVIEW] 70786 Gali: Master of Water

It certainly is. I would prefer not to have a super-girly mask. The original Gali wasn't super feminine. She's a warrior, afterall. Just as long as it's not like the Mistika version. Gali's probably the most perfect, not in need of mods, of the new sets.

Yeah, the Piraka are great, even eight years later. Still proudly displayed on my main shelf.

Flipping the axe heads upside down would also help differentiate them from Gali's big axe. Though I still maintain they'd make cooler sword hilts.

I'm just gonna give him normal HF feet and use his feet with Skull Spider legs as claws. Gotta say lads I'm quite excited for these. My head's full of ideas for all the Toa.
