fake lego set of "a sexual nature"

Recommended Posts

I think TLC's (IMHO excessive) reaction has to do with what happened after the "comic incident" last fall and they want to make their standpoint clear. Too bad it has come to this. Radical muslims use this kind of stuff to "justify" their torrents of hatred against the western world. Just imagine the US would bomb any country that makes jokes about them...

This isn't the first fake set on the internet, and I want to be able to laugh about stuff like that without being called an anti-semite or racist. Except for that "6 year old" remark which makes this "set" look... un-PC, I find it quite funny. When did we ever get a 24 minifig pack, let alone with 23 females?

Lighten up, people, "both sides"...

i don't think so, honestly. Lego's first concern is how their customers will react to this type of 'sets' when they're distributed through the Internet. It's a potential risk to the company's reputation. How, for instance, would a parent react if his/her child shows this 'set' to him/her? Lego could easily get lots of complaints from people thinking it actually is an official set, after all, people are stupid and will think it's a Lego set because it says so... The same happens with 'underground versions' of comic books like 'Tintin in Tirol' or something in which Tintin is fooling around with a zillion other heroes. Authors of those are getting prosecuted on a regular basis, not so much because of the copyright, but because the damaging content... Nope, this does not have anything to do with racism, muslims or whatever. it's a commercial thing...

Honestly, if the parents can't raise their child properly it's their problem. And if their child has access to something like that, they have a problem. Period.

There, you said it. A probable complaint is easily dismissable.

That TLC issues a statement is right. That they treat it like a crime is a bit... excessive...

Right. There's laws that protect simple, one-shot "parodies".

So unless Lego can show quantifiable figures of how much revenue they've lost from this... I think nothing will come of it, even if they find the creator.

For all we know, it was initially just a funny image someone made and sent to a friend in email.

If they went on a site and said "This is an official Lego set"... maybe... MAYBE they have a case.

But I'm going on US law, so perhaps in another country they could mop the floor with someone.

Really though... this is just Lego flexing their muscles in front of the public in hopes copycats think twice, and to quell any possible muslim wackiness before it happens, nothing more.

i don't think it's just a question of law, it's also a question of people's state of mind. Take Belgium; we've had several child abuse cases in the last couple of years that really shook the foundation of our democracy. So any reference as in this set to children and sexuality will not be ignored or just interpreted as 'bad taste', to us, this is highly sensitive stuff... A Belgian public opinion would surely want Lego Belgium to take steps if this were just a Belgian case...

i guess it's also a question of how the company regards these things. Maybe George Lucas wouldn't mind if these two lego figs had been replaced by action figures, one being a 6 year old and the other Han Solo, but i think many companies in Belgium would go after the creator, not to get him jail time, but to get at least a symbolic sentence, like doing community work...

Honestly, if the parents can't raise their child properly it's their problem. And if their child has access to something like that, they have a problem. Period.

i don't think it has anything to do with raising your kids as such. obviously, you do not grant access to porn,... but how difficult is it to type 'lego' on google, click on EB and see it here? does the fact that a kid has access to EB make you a bad or problematic parent? i don't think so... i don't care about the set as such, the extra element here is the clear association with the Lego brand that makes the difference. i think it's up to the Lego company to make it very clear that their brand name cannot be used in association with sets of a sexual content... for that, yep, they should regard this as a crime, not because of the content (there is a freedom of opinion/speech) but because he gets lego involved in it...

He does bring up a funny point though.

That there are So few minifig packs, much less FEMALE minifigs lately.

I think an amusing, (and slightly more tasteful lego set political comic)

might be one portraying a pair of obviously homosexual lego cowboys

with some captions to the effect of no women in the entire town...

(who knows, seeing the way TLC overreacts to fake sets, that one just Might get us some female minifig packs released)

LOL

:-D

Seeing the way TLC overreacts to fake sets makes me want to create a false internet identity and go all out with nasty set premises.

It's like... getting a substitute teacher kind of mentality. :-D

so who produced this set??? Is it by some hidden MUSLIM community or what? Seems like they have some REAAAALLY nasty message they want to sell to Lego. Imagine what everyone will think of it if the image hits town. Woman and children shall be petrified and every man will be emptying their wallet to buy this set.

if this is a fake set then i want to see that justice be done.

I just view the BrickTestament as more of a satire of sorts and making a LITERAL interpretation of what is said in the Bible. Or at least it's English version.

As for that pic, whoever made it clearly was out to insult Muslims. Nothing more than a showcase of prejudice by using elements that the majority of the Western world would see as "bad".

This is obviously designed to make some muslims throughout the world hate Denmark more following the recent Muhamed cartoons thing. You know the weirdos who went crazy? Someone is just poking fun at them and making them go more crazy. *sad* Of course most muslims dont care.

Personally i have no problem with the picture but the text is probably malicious and meant to hurt although some would say its a type of humour.

I could see it being funny to some people. Many people dont care about religion and think the people who get all upset about religion and these things are idiots. I usually think something like this.

Many people in the Middle East boycotted all danish goods and shops threw out their products over the Muhamed cartoons. Im sure Lego were effected and Im sure they will be more if Asians from the region see this. But i have little love for Lego corp.
