I'm hopeful for a summer wave. Getting the Wiggler Poison Swamp for my birthday, and my kids are really enjoying the Penguin and Tanooki suits. I'm really, really hoping the (maybe hopeful) rumors of a Luigi Starter Kit are real, and it does seem somewhat inevitable.

Anybody think we'll be seeing minifigures this year?  I’m pretty sure it’s confirmed we’re not getting a cmf series, but do we know anything else about this theme moving forward?

No,
The two rumored CMF series are Looney Tunes and Marvel.

There's rumors of a Luigi starter kit coming later this year. I really wish they'd throw the people who want regular sets a bone - they have to know there's demand for it, right? Hopefully by next year we'll start getting some.

Hopefully we’ll at least get another D2C this year.  The NES was the closest thing to a regular set we’ve gotten since this whole Nintendo partnership started.

A minifig-scale Peach’s Castle would be the perfect way to introduce traditional figures into the theme, but I feel like that’s still wishful thinking at this point.  Lego clearly has some grand plan for this theme, and I’d be surprised if we don’t get minifigures or other Nintendo properties eventually.

I think minifigs would make sense to be included in a D2C set (or a future CMF series), but I don‘t see them releasing regular minifig-scale sets. The main reason is the characters designs, most of which do not translate well into minifigs :shrug_oh_well: Most of the enemies, especially the smaller ones, would have to be one-off moulds to fit into that scale. The theme has a lot of new moulds as is, and versatile ones at that, which couldn‘t be said about a specialised Gumba mould for instance  And how would you approach something like Bowser without having him brick-built?

Bowser could work pretty well as a bigfig I think. I usually don't buy D2C sets since they're so expensive, but if that's the only way we ever get minifigs I think it would be a bit easier to stomach since I'd still be ignoring the rest of the theme. Time will tell, I suppose.

Yeah, I'm guessing since it is labelled as a starter pack this time, we won't be thrown a curve ball like with the maker set and this'll actually have Luigi... unless it's just Mario again to keep him on the shelf so they can retire the old one.:pir-tongue:

Beyond that though, I'm excited to see what the large set is! I wonder what thing from the Mario universe could warrant such a size... Peach's castle? Bowser's Airship? What could it be?

I'm also curious if there will be a theme to the sets like with the soda jungle theme of the current wave, maybe the snow next? Or the sky/clouds?

I don't know what it is about this theme, but I'm always excited about the possibilities of whatever is coming next!

edit: Wow, those prices are neat! All of the expansion sets have a 10 ppp except the $30 dollar one. That’s unexpected but great!

According to @Falconfan1414, there's a $179 set in the line-up too *oh2* Seems kinda large for a regular set, maybe another D2C one like the NES? Depends on the source though, if it's that Spanish retailer it has to be a regular set

I saw on at least one post that the set # was referred to as "Leaf" again, which was the codename they used for the Mario project last year. But I wonder, why would they use the leaf designation again. Could it be that's just what they'll use as a "secret" designation or is it 100% Mario? (I'm perfectly happy if it's Mario as I enjoy the theme, just curious.) And Leaf still fits Mario with the Tanooki aspect.

Thanks for the update! Can't wait to see what it is... Another console or peripheral would be neat, or better yet, somethig minifig-related

I'm excited! And cringing at the cost of my want list this year already. Those Harry Potter and Mario lists...

I'm going to go ahead and bet that the D2C is a giant sculpture of Mario's 3D model made out of regular bricks, since it seems Lego is dedicated to making everything fans have already done and nothing that only they could do.

(Yes I do love the NES set still)

Hoping it's actually NOT Peach's Castle, as I would ideally want that to be around $350 if not more. Though not as tall as the Disney Castle, it would be very wide and deep, but still with decent height, too. Ideally would LOVE ROB the Robot or maybe even something Minifigure-scale similar to The Village from Minecraft; a large level with lots of different things going on in one big structure, kind of like the Mario area at Universal Studios.

I'm going to go the complete opposite and say "I hope not", $180 is already incredibly steep for me as-is and I'll be really disappointed if our first/only minifig-based set is way out of my price range.

$180 is such a weird price point for a D2C.  However, I don’t think another console is actually that unlikely if they don’t include a T.V.  The price to part ratio could be just right if they were to do just a Super Nintendo or something.

But I really think that the theme is ready for minifigures already.  I could totally see them going the Simpsons route and lock them in a pricy D2C set at first, then release them in a cheaper CMF line in 2022 or something.

Also, I totally agree with you @jedisquidward, now that you mention it I don’t think Peach’s castle could be executed properly for that price point.
