finally finished a prototype!

I was really on and off about entering, i tried about three different ideas before settling on this one. The name coincides with the guns mounted on both ends.

  • Hog (both ends [more later])
  • Dual guns (hence the name)
  • Dual seats (one each way)
  • Symmetrical body
  • Active bumpers (for battering rams)
  • Lightweight body

The steering is the wacky function of the build, so if you need to u-turn, the drivers swap controls. the rear seat operates both guns, and front operates throttle and steering (rear hog steers correctly to not obscure in the driver's view). The bumpers are still WIP, they are going to be wider to be like battering rams, or protect wheels. The car is driven by a powerful set of torque vectoring motors.

Notice the bumper movement?

Very cool. I like the wacky function you have, but if I may give a suggestion. Have it that when the driver turns around to drive the opposite direction, the steerable axle also changes, not just that both axles steer. So basically the rotation of the chair is like a great selector and it changes which axle steers. It would be something interesting to do with a gearbox :)

your builds are getting better and better, keep up the good work young grasshopper

It would be 10 times more wackier if the seats could spin.

Working on that, still room for it.

How about mounting the seats on a geared turntable so the seats spin as the turntable spins the seats. Like a carousel.

I thought about the chair movement, but it will be very complex.

i caught grasshoppers when i was young too.

should the build be asymetrical? to allow a cool body, but allow a spinning chair?

would you vote for one of the two aforementioned ideas?

Like a different body style for depending which way the seat is facing?

No, a regular body, but with a reversable seat inside.

Very interesting idea... Although I actually thought that I was going to be a ride-on lawnmower, until I looked more closely... (because the middle of the chassis is round)

I think you should make it as symmetrical as possible! (it would be very confusing for the other drivers!)

perhaps you should make steering with beams and not gear rack because gears tend to dis-synchronize steering...:look:

Okay then, thanks.

No, they align correctly, if one side is one way, the other will too.

Bevel gears have very little backlash.

Good, I will try and compact this down today, with smaller tires.

You should have fun with that! - I still consider it the best set I've ever had, and it's also the only set I've built more than once - in fact, I've built it 3 times... and I'm planning to build it again! (and do something, er... wacky to it)

And yes, I know this is off-topic... So I'll stop talking...

Hi everyone,

Thanks for all the nice and helpful replies. I was unfortunately image to make a wheel selector that functions correctly, but made this car so much better than original one in first post.

  • Hog (one each end)
  • 4 wheel Steering
  • Spinning, locking, seat.
  • Active bumper rams.
  • Strong body structure.

Now the pictures:

The seat is clamped.
