Heroica RPG - Quest#130: Sisters in Salmanda

Eric grinned as he received 240 gold pieces. The gold was shiny and its weight ample, just the way he liked his riches.

"If we're all finished here, let's head out", he said and went to the Slums.

No, Kintobor is right. Don't do it. Like, at all. It is not your place to dictate what others would respond. You may assume you know what they would reply, but in reality you are just saying what you want them to reply.

"Knock-knock" jokes do not fit roleplaying games, in any case.

:angry::laugh:

"THANK YOU! You've been a great pal, Sir Boomingham! I'm sorry I can't help you more with the black knight - my morals are where the money is, you see. If you don't feel like helping him out, just leave the slobbering mess be, and find another way into the palace. I just ask that you escort me to Rhiannon and act as an intermediary. Tell me the truth, should I really hand her the Cactoid Flower, take her to the Beach Resort to eat and give her this plain Garnet as a gift?"

Boomingham smiles. "You might do best to give her that ring - and Hel, if gold really isn't an issue for you, might want to put the garnet on it. That'd look nice, I imagine, and I happen to be pals with this djinni over here - seems he can do most anything." Boomingham squints at the flower. "Looks like a flower to me, and that's what she wanted. Can't see anything wrong with that, but if you want to play it safe there are flowers in the palace district." Boomingham finally turns to his companions. "I've got to go with Rex and get him back together with his lady love, but I can meet you at the slums if you like - or we can all head to the resort tonight, have to sleep somewhere anyway. As you for, Peri - if you're getting tired of the boy-o you can stick with me. Wouldn't mind having someone like you along, and I'd bet you ten gold pieces I'm a better travel companion than fancy pants here." He chuckles.

"You'd probably lose five gold only because my pants are fancy. Now, have fun with the girl. She likes to be a copycat, annoying, a copycat, ugly and did I say a copycat already?"

He then sees Sarge and Eric leaving him alone. He runs towards them, to the Slums.

"Hey, don't leave me alone!"

"Ya can't overdo it with women, check out that boutique before you go to see her. Also mate, you can give her this." He fumbles about in his pockets, arching his back to get right to the bottom of them, and withdraws his hand with a small, shiny object. He gives it a blow and the assorted dust falls away to reveal the Gold Ring (worth 15 gold; can be given to someone to make them enamored with the giver) that he had procured in an earlier quest.

Rex took Sarge's ring with pleasure.

heroicaquest130-rex.jpg

"MY OH MY! That's a fancy ring! My rhododendron will surely love it. Thanks, fellows - you've all been too kind to an old sellsword like me! I'd still gut you if someone paid me for it, though, but I can say that it would have to be a hefty sum."

QM Note: For clarity's sake, all subquests are common knowledge to all players now.

:angry::laugh:

QM Note: You do understand that I'm not trying to roleplay for you in this case, just trying to keep the quest from becoming a jumbled mess since I will surely lose track of which one of you has talked to which NPC about which subquest eventually. You can ask your fellow players if you want to personally solve a specific subquest, I'm sure you can cooperate that.

Wouldn't mind having someone like you along, and I'd bet you ten gold pieces I'm a better travel companion than fancy pants here." He chuckles.

Rex followed Boomingham's advice and had the garnet imbued into the gold ring.

heroicaquest130-rex.jpg

"Now THAT's really something!"

heroicaquest130-periwinkle.jpg

"It would be an honor to accompany you, Sir Boomingham. You are the only gentleman out of this bunch. You don't know what I had to endure by spending yesterday with Heckz..." The cleric let out a yawn. "By Mother, it was an exhausting day! I have to get some rest soon, or you'll have to carry me around."

As Periwinkle joined Boomingham and Rex, the other three heroes travelled to the slums at the edge of the city. Sun shone high above them when they entered the winding alleyways. The roofs were no longer glittering with gold, and the people around them gazed the three men hungrily. These alleys were not a safe place to be, even in broad daylight.

"Oh man, my tummy grumbles! If only I had a bite from a big, juicy apple..."

What would the party do next?

OoC: I'm just being a pain in the butt, I totally understand why you'd want us to all catch each other up. So, for the record (to my fellow role-players) Boomingham is trying to get into the palace just on his own. He wants power, damn it! So imagine he didn't tell you about the Knight's request. Of course, if you guys want to use your out of player knowledge to stumble upon it, that's totally your business. I think it's more fun if there's a little intrigue in a party, but as I've said always, it's best that we're all having fun.

Boomingham salutes his companions farewell, totally unsure as to where he is supposed to meet them, before leading Peri and Rex to the Palace District with the intention of finding Rex's love.

OoC: Done. But if the party has 15 Influence Heckz will try to go there too.

As Heckz followed the two other heroes to god knows where, he started thinking about all the little errands he had. He forgot one, for some reason, and as hard as he tried he could not remember it.

He cringes at the hideous smell that fills his nose. He then looks at his surroundings.

"Ugh. Which one of you two knuckleheads can't derive from 'normal' and this."

He cruelly ignores the boy, but he notices a purple little animal in a box, next to a cat. He doesn't feel like touching one again, though, so he touches Sarge's arm and points at it.

After that, he enters the only building with some actual decoration. The black one in the middle.

When the party entered the slums, Eric noticed the Greenskin and couldn't do anything else but hear him lamenting about his hunger. "Tsk, typical poor folk, always complaining about their situation rather than do something about it.", Eric thought and rolled his eyes. "Talking just loud enough so everybody can hear his sorrows. Two can play that game."

He smirked menacingly and took the apple out of his pocket and polished it in his hands. "My, my," he exclaimed, to none in particular, but loud enough for the Orc to hear, "that is one juicy apple I've got here. It would sure do me well to eat this fresh piece of fruit in this hot and sweaty city. Too bad, I'm already too full from overeating at the Resort. Maybe I should just toss it away? The birds would probably enjoy the apple, too."

Eric then pretended as if he hadn't noticed the Orc before and now specifically turned his attention to the Orc. Grinning, he said: "Hey mister, you look hungry! I've got this sweet apple, want to trade something for it?"

He obviously wouldn't just give the apple. Everything comes at a price after all.

The man with a club catches his eye. Hopefully it would be some sort of illegal activity, he hadn't done anything like that since Vega. He walks up to the man in the club, visor down. "Anything of interest behind that door laddy?"

Boomingham salutes his companions farewell, totally unsure as to where he is supposed to meet them, before leading Peri and Rex to the Palace District with the intention of finding Rex's love.

The Palace District looked greatly different in broad daylight. The vibrant colors on the walls shone and the multitude of flowers let out their intoxicating fragrance. The Floral Square was bustling with well-dressed people.

heroicaquest130-floralsquare.jpg

heroicaquest130-aerith.jpg

"Umm, flowers! Buy some beautiful flowers, umm, right here! Umm..."

heroicaquest130-richson.jpg

"Waaah!!! I want my Mr. Snugglywuggly back!" cried a little boy who was throwing a temper tantrum in the middle of the square.

heroicaquest130-richmother.jpg

"You are making a scene, dear. Let's just buy you a new one at the Souk!"

heroicaquest130-richson.jpg

"But I want Mr. Snugglywuggly!!!"

After that, he enters the only building with some actual decoration. The black one in the middle.

Heckz tried the door of the black building, but it was locked. There was a plaque on the door that read:

~*Nemeshtar's Necropolis*~

Marvelous magic shoppe open from evening to the small hours

Eric then pretended as if he hadn't noticed the Orc before and now specifically turned his attention to the Orc. Grinning, he said: "Hey mister, you look hungry! I've got this sweet apple, want to trade something for it?"

The orcish boy looked excited.

heroicaquest130-streeturchin.jpg

"Sure, sahib! You can have this teddy I sto... uh, found earlier. Its really posh!"

Jon shrugs at Heckz, then, remembering the zookeeper's quest he grabs the blueish grey animal.

The feline in the box turned out to have markings on its face, confirming that it was the Mistarian Grey Panther. It did not even fight back when Sarge seized it. The alleycat it was with hissed and arched its back, though. It looked like the two cats had fallen for each other.

heroicaquest130-mistariangreypanther.jpg

"Purrrawr! "

He walks up to the man in the club, visor down. "Anything of interest behind that door laddy?"

The hulking golem thug raised the club to his shoulder.

heroicaquest130-blackmarketguerrilla.jpg

Even though he didn't quite understand what the sign said, he was still angry that the door was locked. He looks at the hissing cat viciously and swoops at it, aimin to kill.

He then goes to help Sarge since he doesn't really have anything to do anymore. He notices the threatening golem and it intrigues his curiousity as to what is inside.

"Come on, Mister Horrendously Horrendous, we wouldn't want to get mud or whatever you are made of all over the walls now, wouldn't we?"

The towering golem stared down at Sarge, unphased by his intimidation.

OoC: Sandy, we both screwed up. There's no way to get to the Palace District straight from the Port. Do we just want to let it slide? Or do you want me to back track and go to the Holy District first (which is where I should have headed anyway - Rex gave me bad info on where his wife was and I followed it ).

"Gramps brough a pipsqueak to the fight. Now I'm scared."

Heckz's eye twitched.

"A pipsqueak, huh? I brought a whole building back from that demon-filled white place while you sit here and make people vomit. Make way for the Ghostbuster, the Super Sleuth and the School Inspector, or Horrid Being Killer will be added to that list of titles."

Heckz made a ball of darkness and ice magic.

QM Note: Double whoops! I'll let you progress to the Holy Disctrict without spending any time because of this.

Boomingham realized he was going the wrong way, so he turned to Sanctity Street instead. Rhiannon was there, but she was not happy to see her husband.

heroicaquest130-rhiannon.jpg

"You have a lot of nerve showing your horn here! I told you to stay out of my sight until you learn to behave!"

heroicaquest130-rex.jpg

"But, my beautiful rhododendron, I am here to apologize! Here, I brought you this." Rex handed out the cactoid flower. Rhiannon was unimpressed.

heroicaquest130-rhiannon.jpg

"Are you joking? I am worth a single flowerbud to you?!"

heroicaquest130-rex.jpg

"Err... NO! This is just the beginning, you see. I am going to take you out to eat, you see, like you always wanted."

heroicaquest130-rhiannon.jpg

"Oh really? Where?"

Rex looked at Boomingham, who was standing a little distance away with Periwinkle. The mercenary formed the word "HELP" with his mouth. Where would Boomingham suggest Rex took her wife to eat?

Heckz's eye twitched.

"A pipsqueak, huh? I brought a whole building back from that demon-filled white place while you sit here and make people vomit. Make way for the Ghostbuster, the Super Sleuth and the School Inspector, or Horrid Being Killer will be added to that list of titles."

The golem grunted.

heroicaquest130-blackmarketguerrilla.jpg

"You two have a death wish, don't you? Then step right in." The golem opened the door. Would Sarge and Heckz enter? What about Eric?

Jon smirks, sniggering slightly at the golem. "Deathwish? Lad, please, I killed at least 3 golems in Babeleth." He grins and enters past the golem.

"I killed at least 40 demons and defeated a really-really bad one. Beat that."

He drinks a mead and enters.

Boomingham steps forward and does his best to salvage the situation. "My dear lady, I apologize. One of my fellow mercenaries convinced me that this flower would be a good preamble to your real gift - Rex protested, but I foolishly misled him. The fault is mine, not his." Boomingham scratches his head, trying to remember what he had been told about the city by the priestess and the snake priest. He leans in towards Rex. "When you pass through the Palace District, buy her flowers there, and present them during dinner." Turning back to Rhiannon, Boomingham bows. "I hope you will be more pleased with his next gesture. Rex absolutely insists on taking you to the finest establishment in this fair city - a beautiful dinner at the resort." Boomingham blushes barely, hoping to the gods that the Resort really was the finest establishment in the city.

Eric muttered and accepted the stupid teddy bear. Like Heckz, he was disappointed to find the magic shop sealed. When the others moved past the Golem, Eric followed them.

Sorry for any lack of updates on my part. I've been unexpectedly busy the last days and only havr limit internet access. I'll try to post as often as I can though.

"YES! I shall escort you to the Beach Resort where we will have a delicious maritime dinner by the seaside! Come, my rhododendron!"

heroicaquest130-rhiannon.jpg

"FINE! You better hope I don't get a fishbone stuck in my throat..."

The Rhinotaur couple left for the Beach Resort. Boomingham would find out how the wooing went the next time he would meet them.

Jon smirks, sniggering slightly at the golem. "Deathwish? Lad, please, I killed at least 3 golems in Babeleth." He grins and enters past the golem.

The three heroes entered through the door, and found themselves in a large warehouse filled with crates and barrels. A group of black-clad people were standing at the back, one of which recognized Eric and Sarge.

heroicaquest130-blackmarket.jpg

heroicaquest130-blackmarketdealer.jpg

"Mistress Ashanti, I beg your forgiveness! These men visited me last night! They must have tracked me down somehow..."

The dark-skinned woman eyed at the heroes curiously.

heroicaquest130-ashanti.jpg

"Shut up, you fool. These men are not local, are you? What is it you want, then? Come to rob the robber?"

Boomingham exhales and leads Peri onwards to the Palace District. He glances at the whining child with remorse, but without anything to give him he feels it best just to avoid him for now. He glances too at the Rainbow Knights, but while they were on duty there was hardly anything he could do to expose their affair... even though he was still a little unsure as to how their love could possibly be interfering with their duty. They were right there guarding the castle!

"Shall we see what the hotel is like?" he asks with a twinkle in his eye, leading the way indoors.

Sarge plays it cool. "We're here for our top quality banter innit mates" He grins sheepishly at Heckz and Eric "Me mate Eric here, who's a bit of a ledge, suggested we go for a cheeky nandos, and I thought, Top, let's smash it, but the Nandos has to be extra cheeky so we thought we'd get it from a fine purveyor of goods such as yourselves."

He grins at the woman "Just looking for a cup of sugar, aint we. Kind neighbour. Or scrolls. Or what me n' Eric bought last night if you got it already." he pauses to smile again, then continues "And lower prices, for such informed, valued, customers like us." he smirks at the woman, sneering slightly.

"We intend no harm. Just checking to see if we might get the goods we bought somewhat earlier?", Eric said calmly, trying to defuse the situation. No way he wanted a fight here, not this time. "I really don't care if your enterprise is legal or not. We all have to make our money somehow."
