At the ripe age of 40, I am more excited about the recent improvement of the Lego Train/City theme more than all of my kids combined.

I’m itching to buy sets from last year (the station and the arctic train) but have not had a lot of success with finding deals here in the States.

I don't think you usually see deals on those type of sets @Blacktron2, but I could be wrong.

60511 Vintage Steam Train Images leaked over on Instagram

Honestly it looks really good for city. Honestly I prefer it to the Orient Express locomotive. Has 6x EN size wheels, magnetic couplers, and can have Powered Up added. Looks vaguely continental European (as someone used to British steam), but couldn't target a particular region.

Station platform is really barebones.

Not sure if worth 110$ but definitely looks bigger than 575 pieces. Will defo get at least 1 on sale. Glad to see city is finally expanding beyond the cargo/passenger line up. I hope they do more unpowered/push along trains to lower the train barrier of entry

Beach side tram also leaked

The 60511 set is based on the My Own Train series small engine and tender sets (3740 and 3742) from 25 years ago, whereas the 60506 tram is 100% inspired by a cable car from San Francisco.

I'm so excited for these sets!

I like 60511, but as usual, the PU upgrade is stupidly expensive for a US$90 set (don't know the £ price yet).

Absolutely LOVE 60506 though - might be the first city set I've bought in a while...

I've updated the set list as necessary.  Still waiting to hear anything on 60509 "Port Freight Train with Crane and Truck", though.

I was checking if 317 (the number of the steam engine set) was an old steam train set from the 80s, but no, it's a truck set.
317 is the number that apeared on the sides of the cab and tender of the my own train locomotive sets. I see what you did there LEGO designers.
Btw, for some reason the prices don't seem super crazy for me. Maybe 70-80 euros for the steam engine and 60 for the tram. From what it seems the store from where the image came from has verry steep prices, for example the current red tram costs 90 in Portugal and in that store it costs 95. Going by that logic the steam engine will cost 105, wich in that case is steep, but I don't think it's the case. I will wait for the official prices, but going by Stone Wars, the train will cost 90 and the tram 70.

A versatile set. A nice number of minifigs and the station platform could easily slot into most layouts. The saddle tank locomotive design works stand-alone or with the tender. This set is the closest thing to the MOT line we've had in decades.

Nice shout-out to the previous line with the 317 numbering.

I didn't know about the MOT reference, that's a nice touch! Certainly looks worth picking up. I did see a comment somewhere that this was a better Christmas train than the Christmas train we got - add some gold and holly and I can see it. Definitely picking it up.

Yeah, both the tram and Vintage Steam Train look nice.

Exactly my thoughts! The train is now top of my list for this year.

I just hope the train won't be Lego exlusive or retail exclusive! Because the price... yikes :pir-sick:

So the Classic Train is nice. I feel it's missing a little something - the side of the locomotive body seems a little plain. Still, it's very nice to see.

The Beach Tram on the other hand, WOW. I think I need a couple of these to create a little end to end beach tram scene. It's a stunning little model - hopefully easy enough to put a motor in.

The tram is nice.  Candidate for a pantograph or trolley pole mod?

You can use the fishing rod for that. It's the perfect piece for that and it comes with set.

The sets do look cute, but they both look "scaled-down" compare to past trains.  I think Lego is making sets smaller in an effort to keep the price down.  This usually means having the same piece count as past offerings, but using smaller parts (a lot of 1x1).  It's unclear to me that either item is meant to be motorized or could easily do so.  I mean, these are City sets for kids, so I won't be surprised at all if you can't motorize them.  Also, the spacing between the engine and tender is so short, it will be a challenge even for kids with small fingers to manipulate a minifigure in there.

Again, while cute, the train will be a very poor cousin to MOT (substantially smaller), and the tram is very scaled down compared to the holiday trolley of a few years ago.  I suspect a lot of AFOLs will be disappointed at the size of these, once built, compared to past trains.

It's great that Lego is bringing out more train-themed sets, but these are feeling like "mini-models" with limited play value (not sure where the train or tram are supposed to run to...).  I'd much rather pay more and get a full train set than these little "vignette" sets they've been doing.

The Vintage Steam Train (60511) can be motorised. It is in the official pictures. Tender drive with a train motor underneath and battery box on top. The Classic Beach Streetcar (60506) cannot be motorised, at least from the images I've seen so far.

Both the Vintage Steam Train and the Classic Beach Tram are on my list for preorder. They both look great. The train would be perfect for a "narrow gauge" heritage train service.  The Powered Up option for the train is another nail in the coffin of the Powered Up doomsayers! The tram could be motorised, but there would be no room for passengers if you used the Powered Up hub. Maybe you could have two trams, one being an unpowered trailer.

This is all assuming the leaks are genuine of course!

These pictures came from a Greek retailer's website which has since taken down the premature listings. Sometimes there's room for doubt when the source of a leak is ambiguous but in this case they're definitely real.
