Wout Posted November 15, 2007 I was once in Denmark and then we ride through an area west of Esjberg (to the south west of Jutland). and there was a village were all the houses their windows were barrikated? with wood. The town was once a normal village but in that time the place was become a training place for the Danish military. No ghost seen, but it was not a very happy place. But I know ghost towns from my previous English lessons when I was at school, I know them of course from pictures, from specialised books I bought because I'm very interested in WW and from the excellent Karl May books and movies. By the way: Apache, many people being very interested in the new "Castle" line doesn't mean that none of them would like to have new WW or Ghost Town sets and it doesn't mean that these sets would wouldn't be successful. I agree with KD. I'm a big castle fan and had classic castle sets long before the WW theme came out. Some individuals (neither of you gentlemen) stereo-type WW fans as not liking city, space, and other themes. This is completely untrue - but perhaps a different discussion. In regard to Ghost Towns, I was hoping that a few of you would share some Ghost Town experiences and/or images. How did you start liking the WW theme? Were you into WW history before Lego or after? PS. Oh, KD: I remember getting a pair of jeans as a kid while visiting Germany. I got them back to the U.S. and discovered that they had a round Fort Laramie, Wyoming coin or metal emblem on the back. I thought this was different in that Fort Laramie is an old WW fort - strange thing to find in Germany. I had guessed that Ameriacn Wild West History must be somewhat popular in Germany. Klaus-Dieter Posted November 17, 2007 (edited) There are some theme parks related to the WW in Germany: The Karl May Museum in Radebeul near Dresden. I don't know more but there surely are more. Close to Munich there is an event taking place - I think - every year where WW sceneries are set up on a field near a little village (regrettable I don't know its name) and then you can e. g. ride a horse, drink a whiskey in the saloon or shoot. And there are even some open air WW theaters like the one in Bad Segeberg near Hamburg and the one at the Karl May Museum. But I haven't been to any of them yet. However, I did see a show on the history channel called wild west tech. There was a guy with a large collection of antique guns who auctioned off an authentic ghost town. Pretty cool, I loved all the dead machinery lying all over the place and the buildings which looked like they could collapse every moment. I have some pictures lying around if anybody's interested. Those of you who don't know David Carradine, he played Grasshopper in the Kung Fu series. "you must grab the pebble from my hand Grasshopper"... snefroe Posted November 20, 2007 ok... so basically, a ghost town would be a settlement that was left behind by the inhabitants once the reason for having a settlement there disappeared... nope, don't think i've ever been in such a WW settlement, however, there are many roman cities who could be seen as ghost towns, towns that were completely evacuated before or after a catastrophy... It was a mining town, and the mine ran empty, so everybody left since there was no work anymore. I doubt there are much towns from the Wild West remaining, unfortunately. I thought my 2nd reply would be added to the first. yeah.... well don't tell anyone but i not only collect the space sets, but also the WW sets... you could say i'm only collecting quality :-P , and if there's a topic you started, it probably is about WW sets... close enough anyway :-P and btw, there are azillion ghost towns in 'lucky luke', but then they often are towns haunted by ghosts... or Daltons... or somebody else trying to make a buck out of it... Gardaland was the one i was looking for. we went there 25 years ago and i'm quite sure it was all western back then.
