[KEY TOPIC] LDD 3 bugs and brick errors

Recommended Posts

On of these issues was related to the Bar 4873: studs are not opened so that i couldn't insert the antennas (3957) inside in order to assembly the red laser jail.

That one I have an answer to. There are two version of that bar. The older one have holes trough it (Bar 1 x 6 with Studs Open). However, the new one does not (Bar 1 x 6 with Studs Closed), and it's only the new one that is in LDD.

Randal I managed to to insert the 2x3 tiles with a use of angle tool. If you want i can send u the model.

maybe you can add that fix to the finished model, which is located in the "official builds" thread, with Pi given credit for the build.

Another fix. I nudged the blue "1x1 plate with clip" hinge part directly in the LXF-file. This way there's not need to fiddle in the GUI with all the surrounding parts, which I notice leaves strange glitches etc. Just cut and paste this code into a text-file and save with a LFXML ending, then open in LDD and copy the part.

NOTE: It's this row that control the position of the blue 1x1 plate with clip:

<Bone refID="0" transformation="0,0,-1,0,1,0,1,0,0,0.30000001192092896,1.6349999904632568,1.2000000476837158">

And if you're interested in numbers, there's no need for the precision in the floating numbers. You could just as well write like this and it would open fine in LDD:

<Bone refID="0" transformation="0,0,-1,0,1,0,1,0,0,0.3,1.635,1.2">

i.e. the 0.30000 etc is rounded to 0.3

This makes it easier to edit values directly in the XML code.

The Imperial Flagship does that, having just built my second! So I think that one is definitely a bug.

A few more connection bugs I've spotted:

1) You can't place a 2x2 round plate on top of a barrel 2x2x2 (this one), which is normally how lids are done.

2) The palm tree leaves won't connect to the top of a palm tree top (this part) which makes buildable palm trees tricky.

3) You can't seem to clip one of these round 4x4 plates to one of these turntable bases. Am I doing something wrong, or is that another glitch?

It's probably a glitch. The 4x4 round brick definitely fits, but I've had trouble with the plate version.

And, on a similar note to the barrel problem, a 2x2 radar dish piece can't be used as a lid on the trash can. And a 4x4 radar dish can't be used as a lid on the 4x4 barrel.

Another collision issue I think, you can't place things on the two non-hollow studs at the front of the little rowing boat. Quite a few official sets do this, including the recent Loot Island. It should only curve in enough to prevent plates being attached by the hollow studs. The following picture hopefully makes it a bit clearer. :classic:

Good find. Concider it reported!

(However, you can actually place round 1x1 brick and plates in that place)

Yeah, sorry wasn't clear about that. You should be able to put square ones in too!

As you can see in the picture, there is a bug with the droid legs and 1x2 plate with bar piece. The legs aren't able to fit onto the centre bar.

I can fit them quite easily, so I'm not sure what you mean?

Here's a bug my brother discovered. this piece cannot fit parts like this or this underneath it at the very sides. They should fit as snugly under this piece as they do under parts like this.

I found a related bug, also with curved elements.

One day, I tried to build River Heist, but there was one major problem, as the picture below illustrates:

LXF File

In addition, smooth tires cannot fit over smooth 1/2 bushings in LDD, as page 17 of River Heist's instructions requires.

I hope the LDD team fixes these bugs.

These curve parts have a lot of trouble, it seems. Similar to the problem you mentioned, these can't fit side-by-side. Also, similarly to the problem I mentioned, studs can't fit under the grooves on the bottom of the wedged bit of this piece. So there's a whole lot of stuff messed up with that whole class of parts.

Hi Aanchir and TOJ

All the errors you have found have been reported to Lego. I can pass on a "thank you" from the LDD team! Cool that they really appreciate the work we're all doing here at the forum.

I ran into a couple of errors when building Echo Base in LDD:

  • This bug involves these three parts:
    4595.gif - 4733.gif - 30374.gif
When inserting the three parts together like this...
    mistake-ldd.jpg
...the lightsaber blade can go right through the top stud of the 1 x 1 brick with studs on four sides. When you save the file and reopen it, you get this error...
    mistake-ldd2.jpg
...and the 1 x 1 brick with studs on four sides gets removed.
  • Lightsaber hilts won't fit into Technic pin joiners
  • Barraki eye pieces won't fit into 3L Technic pins with studs

I'm sorry if any of these bugs have been reported already; I don't visit the LDD forum often. :classic:

Another bug I found. You cannot slide a pin on the other half of the 3x3 pulley wheel.

Oddly enough, you can do it with this part:

Wow. That's pretty freaky.

However, the combination you are able to do between the pulley wheel and the "Technic Pin 3L Double" is used on at least one official set (example: 8434 Aircraft's propeller cores). Perhaps that's why it's allowed.

Read through and hadn't found this issue mentioned ... I'm having LDD crash to desktop when I expand any of the brick categories. I do not receive an error, only the Windows application has encountered an error and is closing, 'Send error report' dialog.

This happened nearly every launch of 3.0.x and I recently updated to the latest and this issue continues to plague me.

LDD seem to only work okay immediately after a reboot. Once I close the app and return to it later, the crashes begin.

I'm running Windows XP, with more than enough proc and memory.

I'm connected to the internet via cable and this doesn't coincide with any interruptions in service. Should I need to give the app any priority in the firewall routing?

thanks in advance,

I'd like to use LDD but this is a road block

LDD shouldn't need any firewall changes. If I were you, I'd make sure you have the latest video card and sound card drivers.

I was able to get the two orange ones to fit together, though I don't remember how. If you look at my comic with Paul Watson stealing the Bat Boat, the Bat Boat is actually an agents boat with those two pieces needing to fit next to each other. LXF file
