OoC: I will be camping this upcoming weekend with little to no cell coverage till Sunday evening. In the event I can't post and the party is waiting for me, ChromeKnight can dictate Skrall's actions.

Skrall readied himself for the assault upon the visage of the orcish monarch from so many years ago. The weight of the culture that he had been ignorant of for so long seemed to be resting upon him as he prepared to swing his greatsword. What would his place be in the aftermath of all of this, should he remain in Baltarok to learn or should he return to Eubric, leaving this part of himself to remain buried.

Boomingham's head upon awaking is filled with crying voices, but he silences them immediately. The voices grow calm. Everything grows calm. There is silence and tranquility as he stares down the horrific demon Torakai. He drags Scupperer off the floor and takes halting steps towards the abomination. Suddenly, some dried face farm goblin stands in his path, demanding something of him. He can hear a piercing elvish voice from Gods only knows where commanding him to give her a halberd, so he does before continuing his march.

Skrall and Soryx prepare their greatswords, and together, they charge Tarokai and Tarvalk, each of them unrelenting until their targets lies in inky black bits. Nerwen restores Lord Boomingham, who tosses a halberd over to Daske, who takes it in hand, eager to help stave off her insanity.

Unfortunately, the pieces of Tar-Valstyr, Tarokai, and now Tarvalk all slither along the ground into Taerun, and their strength suddenly seems quite overwhelming, not to mention outright maddening.

SANITY

- Against Irzerkutrah, the party must maintain its sanity.

- Sanity recovers at a rate of 1 per round. Being healed with consumables recovers 3 sanity, being healed with healing magic recovers 5.

- Irzerkutrah will find good use for insane heroes. If the entire party goes insane, the quest will fail.

Special II: The Orc King - Tarokai gives himself a passive 1/6 chance to doom humans, 1/6 chance to hex greenskins, and a 1/6 chance to instantly kill Heroicans for the duration of the battle, and he then immediately attacks.

Special III: Inheritor - Tar-Valstyr deals damage equal to the average level of all allies divided equally among the party. One quarter of taken damage is also dealt as insanity damage.

Special IV: Warlord - Tarvalk gains 10 levels, and all allies deal one additional Free Hit at the end of the round.

Whatever way we can keep that deadly thing occupied in the meantime, do it." Skrall swings his sword around on Tarknal from the back row. Boomingham blinks wildly as Torakai disappears... but his visage is transferred, in Boomingham's mind, unto his successor, the great swirling mass that Taerun has become. The crumbling of castle walls still drift in front of Boomingham's swimming eyes. He knows the beast will defend itself against anything elemental, and so he draws an oft-forgotten sword, the silver sword some young lad sent him a few Grogmases ago. His son, Barty? No... a boy named Atramor... headstrong. Had said he hoped it helped him in a time like this... Boomingham wonders where the young boy is now as he faces off against a demon.

Sticking to the back row, sword raised, Boomingham strikes at Taerun with his Silver Sword.

The party struggles against the might of the mutated form of Taerun. It becomes stronger. It lashes out at the entire party. Soryx's demon expertise comes in handy protecting Olmstyr and Skrall, but its madness threatens to send the entire party over the brink. The party's other hunter decpitates Tarknal in one swift blow, but the eldritch, demon ooze slides again towards Taerun.

This time, the barely-humanoid form doubles over, as if pain, its 'flesh' falling apart and tearing at a huge, vaguely crustacean-looking monstrosity climbs out of the skins of all the orcs it has possessed, the ooze falling to the floor like a molted snakeskin as it unfurls its body, towering over everyone in the room. It opens its maw, but no sounds comes out; no, only the whispers in everyone's head grow louder, almost unbearably so.

​Tra-Serral, barely conscious and barely lucid, turns her eyes on the creature, struggling to even form words.

Everyone recovers 1 sanity

Even in the face of such a monstrous abomination, the party rallies. Nerwen soothes the minds of her allies while Skrall activates a Neutralizer, sucking away everyone's buffs, unfortunately, but also leaving Irzerkutrah completely vulnerable. Boomingham and Olmstyr smite the eldritch creature as one while Thalion prepares his shield for the final push. Aazy, nearly petrified with terror and helplessness, gets called upon anyway, guiding the dangerously reckless Daske to try and jump onto the creature's back. Soryx's Vanquisher lights up a blood red.

"-you are NOT welcome on this plane!"

- Against Irzerkutrah, the party must maintain its sanity.
- Sanity recovers at a rate of 1 per round. Being healed with consumables recovers 3 sanity, being healed with healing magic recovers 5.
- Irzerkutrah will find good use for insane heroes. If the entire party goes insane, the quest will fail.

It lashes out fiercely, at every single person in the party. Aazy and Daske are knocked out of the sky as Nerwen's healing is interrupted. Skrall and Soryx cannot line up their lethal blows. 

But Olmstyr and Boomingham are already prepared. In unison, they unleash their retribution on the eldritch abomination - their blades are a flurry of violent slashes that leave the monster utterly gutted, it crumpling to the floor as Olmstyr delivers eight stabs to its abdomen - Boomingham, not to be outdone, pulls off one, two, four, eight attacks, and follows up with one more, driving his sword deep into Irzerkutrah's gelatinous spine. Thalion seizes the opportunity, delivering two fatal light spells right into its face.

The body of the monster is unrecognizable. Its form melt back into the primordial ooze it once bled. The pentagram on which it was trapped glows white hot - boiling away the essence of the creature as it touches the edges. Tra-Serral watches the remains of the demon...creature that tormented Tarokai's line boil away, leaving only a small puddle in its wake...barely enough to fill a vial.

In either case..." Soryx bows to the heroes. "I thank you for the opportunity to prove my sincerity. As always, it is an honor to raise my blade alongside Heroica...particularly those with the favor of Pseudos." His gaze lingered on Boomingham. "I do not know where you obtained his blessing, but clearly it was well-placed. Now...there is....one thing more I must tell you about the Wandering Silence." Boomingham wipes the goo from Scupperer before returning it to its sheath.  He blinks a few times, trying to straighten out his mind.  He flaps his lips, trying to come up with something to say to the Orcs, but he can't, so he instead turns to Soryx.  "Thank you for your assistance.  Like the big boy said, you need help in Eubric, you know where to find us.  Go in peace, brother of Pseudos, or whatever the Hel we call each other."

With the matter of Irzerkutrah settled, and the fourth 'assassin' dealt with, the party left the palace. The streets of Imaestym were finally cooling down as the night rolled in to its darkest. Midnight seemed to be the only thing keeping Baltarok at a reasonable temperature, for the first time since the heroes' visit. Olmstyr and the other Vauno led the heroes out of the city. The baked dirt road was empty. Everyone was comfortable celebrating in their own homes. It came as a slow realization as they trudged onward to the final confrontation with the Wandering Silence: none of the populace would know what they had done today. The assassins were held back with little incident other than the rather 'exclusive' feast...and as they spotted the bridge in the distance, the mural back in the feasting hall came into mind. The battle where Heroica had decided the fate of Baltarok - but only one of the current party members had been present.

How much did those they saved really value the hero behind the name? Would the names etched in that stone be remembered for decades to come...or was it merely the ideals of Heroica that carried on through the ages? Heroes wouldn't last forever. Would their ideals stand that test of time?

The party finally reached the bridge, as the moon was at its height.
