  4. I’m currently re-watching the SG1 series, I just bought the DVD boxset for a ridiculously cheap price on Amazon. The show is definitely great but the fact that it lasted so long spoiled the magic of the movie and the beginnings in my opinion. Not that it’s a bad thing but it became something different along the way. The Anubis guard is - the best.Minifig.ever. - The Chima crow dude immediately made me think of a Jaffa too but I only used the helmet, the torso and legs are also from the Anubis guard MF. I did not need to add weight but it should definitely be possible to do...the base is think enough to accomodoate a weight. Thanks for the kind words on my Abydos scene too, I'm still very proud of that MOC which was one of my first coming out of my DA.
  5. Thank you for the great feedbacks! It's one of these MOCs that I am definitely thinking of keeping... at least for a little while! 20 years!? Good grief, I'm re-watching it very often. My first advise, watch the movie again! Then I guess you could start with the ten seasons of the SG1 series... the show had its ups and downs but overall it's pretty good. The Atlantis spin-off was ok... I did not like the SG Universe.
  6. Hello everyone, Seeing so many great bookends MOCs popping up online lately inspired me to try my hand at one. Stargate remains one of my all time favorite Sci-Fi movies… and I just thought that the subject would be a perfect fit for this. Stargate bookends by Yatkuu, on Flickr Stargate bookends - Abydos by Yatkuu, on Flickr Stargate bookends - SGC by Yatkuu, on Flickr Stargate bookends by Yatkuu, on Flickr Each vignette is on a base of 18*18 and can either be connected to the other to form a larger diorama or used as bookends - or rather “dvd ends” as shown in this extra picture: I was worried about finding a way to come-up with a convincing vortex effect.. it turned out that a simple printed sheet of paper is perfect! If you liked this, you will perhaps also enjoy this other Stargate MOC I built a couple of years ago. Thanks for watching!
  7. It's a good thing this site finally shows his true colors! I heard that from now on contest prizes will no longer be shipped worldwide, is that true? I guess it won't change much anyway, it's not like the rest of the world stands a chance.
  8. Thanks DaveE, great feedback. You’re right! I guess when I wrote my initial post I was a bit down and upset ;-) Now that the problem is fixed I see things back the way they really are - being a part of the AFOL community is extremely rewarding, and yes, it’s all worth it! That's actually a good idea, thanks!
  9. Hehe.. I tried taking a part in the previous contest they organized. They had made a call for idea to design the artwork of Achtung Baby's remastered version. As I said hereabove, the contest felt to me more like a race for whoever had the most FB and Twitters contacts. Not my cup of tea! I think I have had enough with CUUSOO for a lifetime! That being said, on paper the CUUSOO concept is still great and I still think about it every now and then but to me this system has just not yet proven itself. The efforts needed to make a successful project on this platform are just not worth it right now. Maybe once a few sets have been produced and the system is out of the Beta phase...
  10. Thank you Bobskink, LEGO Guy Bri & CopMike for your support, it's heartwarming! I just received an email from the U2 forum moderator, the contest entry has been removed! Woohoo! That did not take long.. a happy ending and thumbs up for the U2 forum mods!
  11. This morning I had the very bad surprise to discover that one of my MOC is being used without my consent in a contest on the site U2.com; even worse, it appears to be a very popular entry in the contest. The contest is called “from the ground up” – fans must submit creations that they built themselves… you see the irony. I did not submit anything in this contest myself because usually these turn out to be Social Networks popularity races rather than being really connected to the creativity of the entries. To tell you the truth I’m really pissed about this. I initially built this as a tribute to the band of which I am a huge fan, I love their music and everything they represent. To see my work stolen from me like this goes against everything I like about U2 and I just don’t understand why would someone try to do that… expose himself to the online community with the risk of being busted. Of course as soon as I saw this I reported the entry to the moderators.. I’m hoping they will do the needful rapidly and that things will be clarified without problems. I have evidence that the pictures were posted on my Flickr 3 years ago.. I even posted them on several U2 forums. I googled the name of the guy who appears to be at the origin of this theft and I think I found him on FB, I sent him a message to let him know what I think of his actions and give him the opportunity to explain himself. It is not the first time I have one of my creations being used without my consent, a little while ago someone tried to use one of my MOC on CUUSOO. Some of my “Winchester” pictures, which were watermarked were deliberately cropped and reposted on various sites. I am completely puzzled by these behaviors. When I first joined the online LEGO community I never tagged nor watermarked my pictures, now I try to do it systematically either with a logo or by inserting an engraved tile into the MOC but still, experience shows me that it’s never going to be enough. In a way I got lucky to find out about this particular case but it makes me wonder if it is just the tip of the iceberg and I can’t help but ask myself if it is worth it. Is it worth to work hard at designing models, taking the best pictures we can, share them with everyone to enjoy just to be stolen from our ideas down the road? I don’t want to sound overly naïve… I am well aware of how things are online. I just would like to open up a discussion around these issues, see what other members of the community think. I will post an update once I hear back from the moderators of the U2 site.
  12. You are welcome, thanks for the feedback! Thank you Lightningtiger, hehe, looks like you enjoy this movie quite a lot my friend! The camp fire scene is indeed one of the highlights... not so easy to represent with bricks though! My favorite one has to be the "Camp Town ladies" song.
  13. Hello everyone! I present you my latest MOC, a scene taken from the movie Blazing Saddles by Mel Brooks. Somebody's gotta go back and get a shit-load of dimes! by Yatkuu, on Flickr Somebody's gotta go back and get a shit-load of dimes! by Yatkuu, on Flickr You may check the scene here on youtube: Thanks for watching!
  14. This - I completely agree. Their products, their rules. On a side note, when I submitted the Winchester on CUUSOO I never intended to make a kid's toy out of it, I thought LEGO was willing to give adult themed sets a go. It turns out they were not and in the rejection rationale they clearly stated that any product they do must be suitable for their core audience - the 6-11 years old kids - a rule which I seriously doubt is compatible with this theme. I honestly have not seen the Simpsons in a very long while so I can't comment on the current tone of the show... but even if they brought it back to an "acceptable" level it does not change any of what they have done in the past and what made them famous in the first place.
  15. I guess what you are describing is a censored or tamed version of the show. I don't see this happening either, at least not if LEGO wants to remain consistent with their values and line of conduct. We have seen that projects got turned down on CUUSOO only because of their source material. Firefly is just a spaceship? No, it's a ship taken from a dark and violent universe - fail. The Winchester is just a corner modular? No, it's a tavern from an R-Rated movie - fail. ..
  16. Seriously? A little while ago there was a blog post by the CUUSOO team on the LEGO brand standards, here is an extract of what they consider inapropriate for a LEGO product: I'm not sure about the warfare bullet point but other than that I'm pretty sure The Simpsons have covered all of the others on countless occasions! Smithers being a gay character would indeed be a tricky one to adapt.. what about the Reverend and Flanders? If the rumor is true about the fact that LEGO ended their collaboration with "The Sun" in the UK because of the "page 3 polemic" I can't imagine them taking a chance at adapting the Simpsons, the risk of backlash would be too major. Again, don't get me wrong I would love to see LEGO tackle some more mature content and not give in to social pressure but that's just how it is I'm afraid.
  17. lol, I think lightningtiger meant that Smithers is gay.
  18. As much as I would like to see this happen I'm not buying it. I am aware that LEGO is doing some rope dancing with their standards.. what makes an acceptable set or not, and it's fair enough it's their rules after all. But this, I don't see how they could justify it, no way. I'm not an expert of the show but I have seen enough of it to know that there are countless examples of completely inapropriate stuff in it. Let's just take one: Itchy and Scratchy. This is pure gore, they beat each other to bloody pulp with axes, chainsaws, guns... Elaborated hoax, April's fools or big misunderstadning... either way I'm with the skepticals on this one.
  19. Awesome creation! At first you see something cute and innocent, as your eyes stroll down the image the scene becomes something different entirely. Fabuland is a great choice to depict something like this because by nature these characters look completely oblivious to anything dark or sinister. The concept reminds me of the "streching paintings" displayed in the Haunted Mansion Disney ride. For those who have never experienced the ride, once you enter the Mansion (10228 anyone?) you first stand in an octagonal room decorated by these painting on the walls. The trick is that you only see the top part of the paintings, then the room starts to "strech"... I was never too sure if it is the floor that is going down or the roof going up! Anyway, you get the impression that the walls are becoming taller as the the paintings start to reveal their true dark and ominous nature. Edit: I found a picture of the paintings displayed in Disneyland Paris.
  20. Personality disorder MF: Mr. Good and Evil The chain at the base is supposed to illustrate that both sides are connected to each other.. one cannot exist without the other. I know, that's deep. Here is the vignette with the MF.
  21. Yeehaa! MF: Cowgirl. Let's pretend this cow is actually a calf. Here is a picture with the MF. Good luck to all in the contest and thank you White Fang for being once again behind the organization of this event!
  22. Thank you everyone for the feedbacks! Dude, I'm not judging! lol, I haven't seen that movie.. I was more thinking of "The Full Monty", but I guess it says something about my age! Sorry, I did not mean to be sexist or offending.. it's just humor. Thank you Pandora! FYI, the effects have been added with an iPad App named Pixlr-o-matic.
  23. Enjoy... Ladies Night by Yatkuu, on Flickr You can leave your hat on!
  24. Congratulations to the winners and thank you once more to the EB staff and Si-MOC in particular for the organization. Sci-fi is not really my comfort zone and I am both delighted and honored to end-up in the top 10 of the FAPC, a huge thanks to anyone who voted for my little froggies scene!
