  1. I am surprised that this first comment is such a positive one! In my opinion this is nothing but a terrible news. First reduce the size of the display case, then this? Why bother keeping a window at all then? I will hold my final judgement until I see how my local store will want to implement the program but I do not understand this decision. "This model should ideally reflect the local community, perhaps representing an iconic landmark or historical event in the area." What kind of image is this going to give of LUGs? A permanent model of something that will have nothing to do with the current themes, or contemporary culture references such as movies, games... The kids are going to find this boring and our club is going to be perceived as equally boring. The other thing I find weird is that the program will no longer be managed by the Community team... But they still dictate the rules? Either you leave it up to the stores completely or you keep the control... This half independence does not make much sense to me.
  2. Nice... It could be me on that picture!
  3. Thanks a lot everyone for the feedbacks and great ideas! Much like an AFOL's collection organization, I think there is no perfect way to organize a kid's collection... it all depends on the person and size of the collection. For now I have opted for some basic clear containers, wider and shallower. Not sure these will work out any better than the previous ones but these were very reasonable ($27 at Target for the lot shown on the picture below) so worst case scenario I will re-use these for home storage and get different ones for the LEGO.
  4. Hello fellow EB members! I have a 6.5 years old son who loves LEGO but I have a bit of a problem with regards to how to organize his collection. As an AFOL I have found the sorting solution that works best for me using (lots of) plastic drawer towers like this - but I struggle to find the best way to organize a kid's collection. There is no way he could be as disciplined as me and keep his pieces sorted so obviously my solution can't work for him. Right now his loose bricks are stored in 5 LEGO buckets like this: The buckets are nice looking and they can be stacked on top of each other so in terms of space efficiency it is pretty good but this solution has 2 issues: I don' know how your kids are but mine can be lazy. The bricks are not easily accessible and it makes playing with them not as attractive as some of his other toys so as a result he does not play with them very often. It is almost impossible to search for a piece in these containers – too narrow and deep - so if you are looking for something in particular the only solution is to dump it all on the floor which is instantly very messy. I am willing to purchase new containers or invest in another sorting solution but I would like to hear how others are doing it… any ideas?
  5. Here is a short video showing the Win integrated in a collab layout of the NCLUG display at the Durham Comicon in North Carolina that took place on 15-16 Nov 2014. I changed a few things to the original design. The back door is now on the side so I could have some sort of alley on the side of the building. The dumpster is a design by Angus McLane. The lights are a kit from Lifelites set on a flashing program to kind of mimic the the "Don't stop me now scene of the movie where David is flipping the fuses up and down.
  6. Wow, super cool! Sorry for digging up is thread but I only found out about it now. Thanks for sharing these pictures, it's great to see the Win next to the official modulars. Indeed the LDD file has some flaws... and some of the pieces used are rare and expensive so you did a great job at optimizing the design. I remember spending so much time on this that after a while I just had to let it go (even though I did get some help!) There is one error I caught after that is worth fixing, the entrance door is one plate too high. By lowering it by 1 plate you can add a 1x4 white plate on top of it and have a better design continuity on the front. My latest addition to the model was to add a light kit fom lifelites and some spots on the outside right above the Dark Red line. By using one of the random light programs it sort of mimic the "don't stop me now" scene of the movie... lol.
  7. I also got this little set, here are my 2 alternate models. A smallroadster with a traffic light and speeding camera. Ooops by Yatkuu, on Flickr Roadster by Yatkuu, on Flickr ... and a Traffic control truck. Traffic Control by Yatkuu, on Flickr The sign in the back can be folded. Traffic Control by Yatkuu, on Flickr It was a fun challenge and I want to thank the LEGO group for setting up this great initiative.
  8. The poster looks great, congrats to everyone who made it! Special mention to Cara for scoring 3 turtles!! Well...I'm sorry you see this as inappropriate, I certainly did not build it to upset anyone! I just saw this as an interesting challenge and that's all there is to it. As to the answer to your question "why would that win" - I think that's a totally unfair comment. I don't take offense on it because you are entitled to your opinion but the winning entries were picked by public vote. It won because a lot of people appear to have an opinion that is different than yours and there is no need to be contemptuous about it.
  9. Of course Rufus ;-) , big thanks to the CEE team and Julie! I hope you guys have more ideas like these in stock because this one was a big winner!
  10. Congratulations to the winners and a huge thanks to everyone who voted for my “dead turtle”, I never thought she would go this far! Thanks to the EB staff too for once again running the show, you guys rock.
  11. Wonderful news! Thanks a lot to everyone who was involved in this discussion! I must say I had completely overlooked this aspect of the contest rules. And I’m totally fine with my “Bat-Turtle” being disqualified as I can see now how entries representing ideas taken from existing IP could cause issues, in particular with the poster project (not that I think my entry was worthy of the honor!). The decision to accept the licensed pieces - provided their usage is not associated with the IP they were initially taken from - is very much in the spirit of the creativity LEGO should inspire.
  12. So many turtles... so few points to give! 4 Devid (1 vote) 64 Bob De Quatre (1 vote) 104 BEAVeR (1 vote) 122 Mr.Brickman (1 vote) 124 Jarren (1 vote) 136 SpacySmoke (1 vote) 171 Fujiia ( 1vote) 214 PixelFox (1 vote) 235 Cara (1 vote)
  13. Here is my 7th and most likely last entry in this epic contest, the Turtle 928. Turtle 928 by Yatkuu, on Flickr Thanks to EB and TLG for all this turtle craziness... and good luck to the judges!

  15. Make no mistake, this Turtle is a cold blooded killer... the Vampire Turtle! Vampire Turtle by Yatkuu, on Flickr
  16. Meet Victor Van Turtula... Victor Van Turtula by Yatkuu, on Flickr *Edit* After some discussion on Flickr around the gender of this turtle I went back and checked.. well, hem, under the tail... to be certain and it appears I was mistaken as this turtle is a male and not a female as I initially thought. So I changed his name to be Victor instead of Victoria.
  17. Guess what, she only works in Black... and sometimes very very Dark Grey... the Bat-Turtle! Bat-Turtle by Yatkuu, on Flickr
  18. Well well... this contest is picking up some speed... it's time to switch into second gear with my Racing Turtle! Racing Turtle! by Yatkuu, on Flickr

  21. Hello everyone! Today I would like to present you my latest MOC, natural successor to the Winchester, the house from the TV show Spaced - another masterpiece by Edgar Wright. 23 Meteor Street by Yatkuu, on Flickr For the sake of comparison here is a shot of the actual house used for the show. We're a family (of the 21st century)! by Yatkuu, on Flickr Mike and Private Iron by Yatkuu, on Flickr Note that the head used for Mike does not really exist. It is a mix of this head and this one and a bit of photoshop magic from my friend Pixel Fox. Spaced by Yatkuu, on Flickr Thanks for watching!
  22. The model is not bad, there are some interesting ideas. I particularly like the studs up brick on top. Of course, just like any other architecture set it will mean a lot more to anyone who has the chance to actually visit the place. The creator set sound like a good compromise to make it available widely but they may as well just call it an architecture studio 2.0 as it will probably just be made of white bricks.
  23. Sorry to be off topic but man, this comment made me laugh. I was looking closely at the picture, zooming on the details when all of a sudden this huge cat appeared on my screen. A bit like this video jokes when they ask you to come close to the screen and listen carefully... Just to scare the hell out of you with an unexpected scream. This looks like a nice selection of pieces and they appear to be in good shape... Enjoy the sorting!
  24. Well done guys, you have clearly put a lot of effort into this project and this win is well deserved. A big thanks to everyone who voted for our entry, I am very happy we made it second place! Again , congrats to everyone who managed to put an entry in this challenging contest.
