  3. I'm worried that they're going to jack the price again for Series 2. I mean, as great as they are, I'm not interested in paying $4 a figure without even a single brick or something to go along with it. I hope TRU keeps their price at $2.49 US... Hopefully the second series will run much smoother and error-free. It's like when Apple rolls out a new product-- the second release of the iPhone was much more stable and user friendly than the first. We can all hope Lego learns from what went wrong with the first batch.
  4. Agreed about positive. I managed to get 11 out of the 16 from TRU, then my area hit a serious dry spell. I'd been doing the same as Lego_Hero, calling the two TRU's in my area rather than driving out every single day. Nothing, nothing, nothing... then on Monday I read here at Eurobricks that some people are reporting that BORDERS has them. Drove out to the nearby Borders and BAM! There they were... I was able to complete the collection and yesterday went back to grab myself an extra cheerleader, caveman (going to put that hair on one of my Pirate crew), and cowboy (love the pistols for my police force). I have no desire for an entire box, but already have 2 forestmen, and might be tempted to get a third, or maybe another cowboy for the guns, but otherwise I've gotten what I wanted. Sucks about 5 crash test dummies-- my biggest fear before the series broke was that I'd get stuck with a whole batch of them. I did get a second one I didn't really want, but that was before I really got good at barcode identification. Don't get down, boys... try Borders if you're willing to pay $3 a figure (and you can use coupons on them as well if you belong to Borders Rewards, apparently). Also, I'd like to say I'm a definite supporter of the barcode method-- I've actually become quite good at identifying the codes without the cheat sheet-- just try to memorize the last few bars of whatever figure you need, not as hard as you'd think. Then no one can give you weird looks or tell you you can't 'cheat' with a paper guide.
  5. UPDATE: My own Series 1 is complete. Stopped at Borders after work today, and was able to peruse their two boxes to find the 5 I was missing. REPEAT-- Confirmed sighting and purchase of Minifigs at U.S. BORDERS. The retail bookstore, not the geographic boundary. Some thoughts on Borders: They were up on the front desk right by the register. Nobody cared that I went through them looking for the barcodes (I didn't have a checklist on me, and memorized the codes of the remaining 5 I needed), nobody told me anything about what I could or couldn't do, nobody told me how many or few I could buy, nobody really knew what they even were actually, or what the big fuss was all about... and at first no one even knew how much they were. For the record, they were $2.99 each. An entire 50% markup per unit in one month... wow. BUT I got what I was looking for, and probably more than made up for that extra money in what I'll save on gas alone trying to track down the rest. AND, for the record, I LOVE the caveman. And the skater boy is cooler than I thought he'd be. Very satisfied shopper right here...
  6. Agreed. I've seen this at TRU the last few times I'd checked in on the Great Collectible MF Hunt, and was very tempted to grab this instead of going home empty-handed. In the end I've convinced myself that it'll show up in dept. stores at a cheaper price later this summer... right?
  7. Price isn't really the issue. The main concern here in the States is availability. After stumbling on an entire box the first day, I've barely seen more than a few since then. Also, I think Toys R Us wouldn't be raising any prices if anyone else had them-- that's what puts them in the position to charge whatever they'd like.
  8. What surprises me isn't just how many new City sets TLG has released this year, but also how many BIG new City sets TLG has released this year. It seems like they just keep firing salvo after salvo at us. Not that I'm complaining... but you'd almost expect more low-end sets at this pace. After all the big ticket stuff this year you'd think they'd have kept the Public Transport under $100. Guess not. And yet, here in the US we're still waiting for the copter and limousine.... sigh...
  9. Absolutely I was all about the Forestman ever since the story broke about the minifigs. Now that I've gathered two of them, however, my focus is clearly on the TRIBAL HUNTER. I've never had a Wild West set and I'm all about grabbing a few of these guys, including one who'll get a bit of a wardrobe change to serve under Cap'n Brickbeard, yarrr! Also a big fan of the Caveman, the Cheerleader, and oddly enough, the Cowboy. He looks so much better in person than on screen, plus he and his cohorts will do a fine job of arming my police force.
  10. Love the Elvis idea, Zorro, FIsherman, the Eskimo and many more. Also expect to see the Samurai return before the series is finished. Some recent ideas I've had: Gender: Female Occupation/print on torso: Rollerskating Carhop/Waitress-- torso print would be drive-in retro shirt with nametag Type of headgear: New hair mold, pigtails? Type of facial expression: Chewing gum Color on torso/legs: red Accessory: Clip-on Rollerskates, a tray to hold in her hand, and a milkshake or burger to go on the tray Gender: Male Occupation/print on torso: TARZAN! Bare torso except for some strange medallion/necklace, etc. Type of headgear: long hair, Type of facial expression: Grimacing, sunken eyes Color on torso/legs: Loincloth print Accessory: A monkey Gender: Male Occupation/print on torso: Witch Doctor-- strange vest, necklace, perhaps voodoo dolls/pins tucked in waist Type of headgear: bizarre hat with feathers and bizarre symbols Type of facial expression: Creepy, spooky eyes Color on torso/legs: Dark brown/Black Accessory: either voodoo doll or shrunken head Gender: Male Occupation/print on torso: WWI ace pilot/ Red Baron-- bomber jacket with scarf around neck Type of headgear: new bomber hat, with room for goggles to clip on Type of facial expression: Heroic, perhaps mustache Color on torso/legs: Dark green or black Accessory: A cane Gender: Male Occupation/print on torso: Bowler, classic bowling shirt with checkers Type of headgear: New hair mold, perhaps slicked back 'greaser' hair Type of facial expression: Laughing, funny Color on torso/legs: Blue Accessory: Bowling ball, maybe even a bowling bag Gender: Female Occupation/print on torso: Greek goddess, White toga Type of headgear: Beautiful hair, olive branches clip in? Type of facial expression: Stoic, noble Color on torso/legs: White Accessory: Either an owl or perhaps a staff of some sort Gender: Male Occupation/print on torso: Satyr, furry chest Type of headgear: Scruffy hair with horns sticking out Type of facial expression: Devious, Sneaky Color on torso/legs: Custom mold, half goat legs, short Accessory: Pan Flute Gender: Female Occupation/print on torso: Hippie, Vest with buttons, perhaps peace sign shirt Type of headgear: Hair and lots of it-- headband as well Type of facial expression: spaced out, round glasses Color on torso/legs: Blue, with patches in pants Accessory: Soda bottle, maybe guitar Gender: Male Occupation/print on torso: Liverpool Musician, dark suit with thin tie Type of headgear: Moptop Type of facial expression: Cheeky smile, maybe round glasses Color on torso/legs: Black Accessory: Guitar, old school Enough for now-- but I'LL BE BACK!!! Mwuhahahah!!!!
  11. Great stuff-- Only improvements you could make would to go ahead and make 'em 6 studs wide... otherwise I think they're fantastic. Nice job!
  12. Did I read that correctly...? BORDERS is selling the minifigs in the US??
  13. Right... looked it up on brickset since. But we have a confirmed re-release of Toy Shop??
  14. HOLIDAY TRAIN???????????????? When did this information come out???
  15. Agree with the thoughts of many-- Already have the LEGO truck, and prefer it to the TRU version. Even though the little store is kinda cool, it's certainly not enough for me to justify buying a second identical truck. A bit of advice to those who haven't yet made a decision on either-- this truck is HUGE, certainly the biggest LEGO tractor trailer I've ever seen. If you have tight corners in your layout, don't expect this behemoth to make it through. The rig itself is almost as long as the Octan truck and trailer. Also, quick question for those of you more in the know than myself... I thought I'd read somewhere that the TLG was going to do a widespread retail re-release of Winter Toy Shop for this year's 4th quarter. Any truth in that?? Or just wishful thinking?
  16. 1. Never bought one, I must admit 2. Usually I collect the entire theme, unless something just really catches my eye 3. Not really my thing, actually 4. Either a true Pirate-era island town, A City Supermarket, or a huge SW Mos Eisley Cantina or Ewok village 5. Many ideas, mostly for City: HOLIDAY CITY SUBTHEME a. First and foremost, the definitive Santa set complete with a dedicated reindeer mold (something that can accomodate a 1x1 round trans red for Rudolph's nose of course). Santa, the full team of deer, the sled, and whole slew of presents in the back. What kid-- no, what person-- wouldn't pay up for this???? b. The Christmas Tree lot-- lots of trees, lots of 'lights' on strings, perhaps a family loading their tree onto the roof with the generous salesman's help. c. Santa in the Park-- a fair size 'outdoor' set complete with the community Christmas tree and a Santa's workshop structure where the kids are standing in line to talk to Santa. Go tell him you want that BB gun! d. Holiday home-- a reasonable minifig-sized house all decked out in its holiday best. Kids are outside making a snowman, mom is inside baking her cookies, and of course we would have to throw in Dad hanging the lights on a ladder. e. We've seen the carolers, but I'm sure we could all use a few more in a small set a la City Minifigs... They could also do holiday shoppers, etc. f. How about the sledding hill-- lots of kids on old school wooden sleds, with maybe a skier or Gravity-Games era snowboarder thrown in for good measure. g. Finally, the home run in the entire line would have to be The North Pole!!! Santa's home, complete with the workshop, the stalls for the reindeer, and good ol' Ms. Claus tidying up the place. And of course, it would have to include (Castle fans may now begin drooling) ELVES! Perhaps just a face mold, but maybe something more for the ears. And this set could surely invite additional add-ons such as Santa's runway, elves at work, etc. etc. h. Perhaps even an old snowy stone church and/or nativity set?? MOUNTAIN LAKE CITY SUBTHEME a. A forest clearing where a pack of scouts are setting up camp for the night (and perhaps a bear wanders in to eat their frankfurters). b. A fishing boat where perhaps father and son are looking for the big catch, complete with the fish or even an old tire for the boy to reel in. c. A beautiful lakeside cabin complete with a small dock on the water, just the right size for my gold seaplane to be tied down to. Naturally, it would need a few raccoons breaking into the garbage around back. d. A lumberjack crew, complete with their lumber truck and a few large trees to cut down. Lots of accessories and gear for the 'jacks. e. To top it all off, the main set for the series would be a forest ranger station with a rugged 4x4 parked in the driveway and a nice tower to inspect the surrounding forest. Bears, snakes, beavers, or perhaps even an otter or skunk would be nearby in the woods. On top of those: a. Continue the Pirates Theme!!!!!!!!!! More Ships!! An Island Town!! BLUECOATS!! b. FORESTMEN!!!!!! We NEEEEED them back, and do their fortress RIGHT this time! c. STAR WARS: Proper Mos Eisley Cantina, The Ewok Village, a Tusken Raider set with a Bantha, and as Klaus-Dieter said, a Hoth Base interior set (Med-Lab, Bacta tank, etc). d. Continue the minifigs, with a more aggressive marketing and distribution plan.
  17. Interesting... after picking up a total of 15, I already have 3 zombies. That's enough for me, personally... Still need caveman, tribal hunter, skater, ninja and wrassler.
  18. Update: Went back today, and in less than 24 hours two boxes were GONE. No word on when they get the next shipment.
  19. I grabbed 8 at my local TRU yesterday. Interestingly enough, they had them in the back of the store with the rest of the Lego. I was able to pull out a US-barcode cheat-cheat and go through them. If I had more time, I probably would've been able to 'shop' for exactly which ones I wanted. Unfortunately, I was in a bit of a rush, and ended up with: Forestman (LOVE IT), Nurse, Cowboy, Zombie, Zombie, Cheerleader, Diver, and Robot. Should also point out that the store had two boxes there-- I'm going to stop back today and see how hard it was hit, but as far as I could tell I either got there just as they put it out or it's just not getting that much attention. Either way, I'm hoping to grab some others today. Also, I could be wrong, but from what I could tell the same figs were NOT scattered throughout the box, but rather sitting together. For example, if I grabbed the last two on the very right side of the box, they were BOTH the same bar code. IE grabbing just six all together will likely give you multiples of only 2 or 3 different figs. I'd definitely recommend picking randomly all across the box if it's a new one. And as many of you said, it's definitely FUN-- felt like a kid opening them up! Even my wife was into it.
  20. This is another case where you're buying the set more for the accessories than for the fig alone. BUT I will say I'm particularly interested in the hat-- that black cap can be swapped out with the blue one worn by the driver of the orange tow truck-- then he essentially looks alot more like the crew of the helicopter transport set. That always bugged me that he had the same torso but just didn't feel like he fit in with the rest.
  21. Some of you guys get so caught up in the China thing-- you knew ahead of time that's where they were coming from, right? If you're not impressed with the quality just leave them on the shelves for the rest of us! Sheesh!
  22. Just checked my TRU-- no new minifigs as of Wed. afternoon. I will say that the guy on Brickset who's been breaking the news says that his store also had the Lego Truck, the Octan Truck, the Passenger Plane and the Airport. My nearest store has the two trucks (picked up the Lego Truck yesterday myself), but not the airport sets. Perhaps there's a connotation there?? If your store's got the airport, it might also have the fig boxes?? Not sure-- I work close by and plan on swinging through regularly for the next week or so
  23. Well, couldn't you just lose the Santa head, and you've got yourself that Hot Tub Stormtrooper you've always wanted??? I feel a bit cheated-- this is my first real year in City, so this is the first Advent calendar I'll get my hands on. BUT I do like the idea of getting not only a family, but some nice furnishings for the Family House, so this works for me
  24. Excellent, simply excellent. This whole series, this whole idea, is just oozing with FUN. I can't see this not going well into 2011 with as many as six or more waves. How could it not??
  25. Some absolute winners here-- I must admit, adding to this thread is in many ways addictive! As for some more: Gender: Female Occupation: Meter Maid Torso: Cop uniform, with perhaps a bright orange vest Legs: blue Expression: Angry, perhaps with whistle in mouth Headgear: Police Cap Accessory: Clipboard, maybe even a tire anchor Gender: Male Occupation: Scout Leader Torso: Light brown shirt with scout pins banner across body Legs: Tan, maybe shorts print with skin showing below knees Expression: Cheerful, maybe whistling Headgear: Round, Flat-brimmed hat Accessory: Red bandana, Backpack, perhaps hiking staff or pick axe From the DS Game: Gender: Male Occupation: Highland Warrior Torso: simple shirt, perhaps tartan across body Legs: Elaborate kilt print Expression: Angry, blue painted face? Headgear: Long hair (think the female from the camper) Accessory: Sword and buckler And in following with both the clown, the magician, and the ringleader: Gender: Male Occupation: Lion Tamer Torso: Red with decorative trim Legs: Tan or brown Expression: Courageous Headgear: Safari cap Accessory: Whip, a chair, and (perhaps asking a bit too much) a lion! And perhaps also along the circus theme: Gender: Male Occupation: Gorilla Suit Torso: Gray or even purple Legs: Same Expression: Happy Lego smile Headgear: 'Evil' looking Gorilla mask Accessory: Bananas And maybe two more, with a twist: Gender: Male Occupation: matador Torso: Elaborate green and gold suit. Legs: Same Expression: Snooty, with mustache Headgear: Matador's hat, whatever that's called Accessory: Gold Epaulettes, perhaps a cape for his body, and of course the red cape for the bull And finally: Thought I'd add another: Gender: Female Occupation: Dancer, entertainer Torso: Sexy bustier Legs: Elaborate block dress piece Expression: Flirty Headgear: huge hat made out of fruit (y'know, like the one Bugs Bunny always wore) Accessory: Pineapple?
