There is no winner. The ship was available with a "buy it now" for -
KLM has a store at Schiphol Airport in the area near the runway. Perhaps, you can grab one or more there. Perhaps it is even tax free (no VAT) since it is located in the airport zone. I got my 2928 and 4032 over there. All it takes is driving to Amsterdam.

36d This time not a Brickshelf find but an eBay find: Admiral Ship on eBay He wanted EUR 1.800 (which is over $2400 in USD currency) for it but it failed to sell. It has over 14000 pieces, over 20 sails, 60 cannons and a 70 men crew. Edit Bonaparte: Saved pics in BS and added to post. -
Hey all, Hereyee, hereyee! *sing* Anyone interested in a good example of the rare Dutch promotional set 1590 ANWB Breakdown Assistance, should look over here: Lego 1590 ANWB Breakdown Assistance A truly scarce Dutch Lego Town series promo from 1982, escpecially made for ANWB (Dutch Roadside Assistance). Set is original, no fake stickers (only one tiny one missing, the rest is there), original instructions included but alas no box. I own 2 equally good examples of this set, so I decided 1 has to go. I just hope it will end up in a serious collection where it will be treasured. A must have for Lego Town addicts. And I am also offering a 375 Yellow Castle with instructions: Lego 375 Yellow Castle And some other stuff as well. Don't miss out. Thanks for your attention and good luck if you decide to get involved in the bidding!

I've got my 918 since my childhood and believe it or not, it is still built! I have never disassembled it since the first attempt to build it! 8-

There once was a pirate boardgame for sale on eBay.co.uk dating from about 1989. That boardgame showed the positions of each base on the map, if memory serves me correctly. Also, there are these Lego pirate Ladybird books that might have some information or maps. I do now own these so I can not tell. Also, in my Dutch version of the 6255 pirate comic "The Golden Medallion". there is an outline of the Eldorado Fortress and Forbidden Island. Forbidden Island is positioned south from the Eldorado Fortress, which is situated on a different island. A small sea separates the 2 bases from eachother.

I'm 34 years old and when I buy a set in a store, the person at the counter (almost automatically) asks if it is a present that needs to be gift wrapped. Always, I say "NO, don't peel off that price sticker, you will damage the box!!! it is for myself!!" just to see how the person reacts to that "shocking" confession... X-D To be honest, I do not care what others think since it is my life and my decision to spend money on Lego. I have even been on Dutch TV once admitting in front of an audience of a couple million people that I collect Lego. See if I care... apparently not. :-D Collecting and playing with child's toys on! :-P

Well, at least they are available to the community and most BL sellers do sell worldwide so if you need more of those, why not buy from other countries? I do not care, sometimes it is quite cheap to ship pieces from Europe to the US and vice versa, only a couple dollars will do it. I have done many overseas transactions and so far everything arrived and nothing went lost in the mail. Also, both Eldorado Fortress and Caribbean Clipper were sold in the US so the figs were available to American customers as well. For us Europeans however it is sometimes difficult to acquire sets that were only available in the States, to mention are 6071 Forestmen's Crossing, 1729 Barnacle Bay, 6249 Pirates Ambush and 6281 Pirates Perilous Pitfall to name a few.

1. It is true that he was available in 1989 and probably the first couple years of the 1990s and that he only came in 2 sets with different plumes (red in Eldorado Fortress and yellow in Caribbean Clipper). 2. It is a fact he is rarer than the regular blue coats. 3. The $14 price might not have to do with rarity alone but reflects desirability as well. 8-o 4. He has a nice hat... providing that it is not faded or heavily used, that is a bad side effect of the black print on a white hat, it easily wears off. :-/ But he is not that rare, I mean, I own between 10 - 15 of the blue governor torsos and perhaps even more. I find it much harder to find a "Steve" and a Mr. Anchor Tattoo for that matter. Current BL situation (at the time of writing which is August 4): - 7 anchor tattoo guys (3 with black bandana and grey legs, 4 with red bandana and blue legs) and 4 loose torsos; - 16 "Steve" guys (7 with brown tricorne and blue legs, 9 with black tricorne and grey legs) and only 2 loose torsos ($8.50 each!); - 22 governors (13 with yellow plume and 9 with red plume) and 8 loose torsos. Of course, this might change if any of you intend to grab some of those pieces... X-D

Well Mr Phes, either you missed the point or accidentally misread the post. The sort of "broke" that zouave meant is the "without money" sort of broke and not parts that are broken... a subtle difference, mind you... :-D However, I too find it kind of annoying when you want to buy something on BL that is used without further remarks. It is quite easy to add sentences such as "used but in good / very good or excellent condition". Sometimes, condition leaves to be desired. Since BL merely is a builders and collectors community, I think sellers should never (try to) sell pieces that no one would want or mention clearly that the item for sale has some problems. :-/ I also still can not understand why people are still trying to sell broken stuff on BL, for instance bardings with broken clips, I mean they are beyond repair and no one needs that. 8-( I am off topic, I know but I had to say this with the post of Mr Phes in mind. X-D

You do not have the fig that is your avatar??? I was wondering if you have any pirate Lego at all since there is not even a single pirate piece included in the ship or the beach. The figs are strange guys with no headgear (the blue one might be a ninja), is this all the Lego you own? I am sorry but I do not like it at all, your creation does not even look like a ship if you ask me. It is more like an oversized raft. :-/

I used to post on CC regularly in the past but haven't in a long time since my interest for castle has for some reason changed in favor of pirates. Nonetheless, my castle collection is quite impressive still if I may say so with many sought after sets in sealed / new / unused condition. I do however not intend to part with those and sometimes, I even still add castle sets to my collection in case I fancy them, although for some unclear reason I happen to prefer pirates over castle unlike many others. I do for instance already have the majority of the 2007 castle line except the big castle and skeleton ship attack. :-$

It looks like the guy who created these is a castle fanatic and more specificly, the dark forest factions. Apparently he wanted to add some variety to existing Lego torso designs and some factions wearing his own creations. Maybe he applied them to his minifigs / armies and it would be nice to see what he did with these creations himself. Some can indeed be used for pirates but the guy definitely focussed on castle.
-
Ah, that explains. I got a little late out of a 20+ years dark age so I did not get any pirate sets in the 90s and was forced to buy the majority of them online in the 21st century at (sometimes) high prices and without the possibility of buying huge amounts of sets for army building let alone store discounts that were most likely applicable back then. :-/ It would not be (financially) sane to copy that sort of spending behaviour now since the older bardings are fetching well over $10 a piece on BL. 8-o

Judging the number of red imperial guards and the red and black striped shirt pirates with blue bandana, I think he cannibalized many of his sealed 6247 Bounty Boats that he once showed still sitting inside a Lego shipping carton. 8-o

Actually, this appears to be a BL failure. This minifig with white hands was catalogued and addressed to the 6281 Pirates Perilous Pitfall set. Someone must have found a used copy of the set with the minifig included not knowing that someone had switched the original yellow hands for white ones and added it to the BL catalog under the impression that the fig was right the way it was. I checked my sealed 6281 copy ( :-P ) this morning and he appeared not to be there (I did find the green shirt with yellow hands of course), so the white hands are my mistake, however based on the BL catalog. I hope someone can correct this on BL. 8-|

Sounds familiar, I had more than one set but nothing compared to what other kids had. I had about 10-15 small and medium size sets, nothing major however. Where did you get all these, if I may ask? Did you gradually buy them on eBay and/or BL or did you buy many new sets during the 90s that you opened up for the minifigs? I do not own as many minifigs as you but I think I have more Steves and anchor guys! Anyway, envy on! :-P

Both the brown vest guy (formerly on other threads referred to as "Steve" :-P ) and the anchor tatoo guy are among the hardest ones to find. They do not occur that often, especially since "Steve" with blue legs and brown tricorne only came in 6277 Imperial Trading Post while "Steve" with grey legs and black tricorne only appeared in 6286 Skulls Eye Schooner. Both were bigger and therefore more expensive sets at the time (made approximately between 1993 and 1995 or so). The anchor guy also had a short production run (1996/1997 first run and a 2001 re-release) and is a little rarer in Europe since 6249 Pirates Ambush and 6281 Pirates Perilous Pitfall were not available in stores throughout Europe. These were US only sets. The only way most (European) people got it was through acquiring 6289 Red Beard Runner or the 6290 Pirate Battle Ship. In each set 2 of these anchor chest torsos were included (blue legs and red bandana and the other had grey legs and black bandana) while "Steve" always came as a single minifig in each set that was being sold. The rarest pirate however is in my opinion the green Spanish captain with white hands and silver breast protection that only came in 6281 Pirates Perilous Pitfall.

Ah, the hooded negotiators that were heading to meet the Trade Federation and got ambushed instead. New Qui-Gon fig on! :-)

I'm cleaning up my old sets, and am looking for some tips...

Well, to restore yellowed pieces, my solution would be throwing them into a bowl with bleach only and leave them for a week or so. Do not leave them to long or in the end the gloss will wear off the bricks but keeping them floating in a bowl with bleach will most likely do the trick and it will certainly enhance some of the yellowed bricks. Some bricks however can not be restored. I once had a white police station that was heavily yellowed. I could not restore it back since the pieces were too yellowed but most of the time, I get good results with this treatment. I have no experience washing sails so I am not going to comment on that. Ironing is a good way to stiffen them again however.
