  1. Cool combination of a pirate ship's hull combined with the new castle line and some Harry Potter parts (green dementor figs). Great find.
  2. I remember from the movie that the cold crate / chest should have been formed like the ark. The ark was put inside a wood crate with nazi markings (black eagle and swastika's) on each side. Too bad that Lego did not try to recreate a more accurate ark that would fit inside a wood crate in the back of the truck. Of course, they should have left out the nazi markings. X-D
  3. Let's face it, the US will get things first as usual as a result of Lego coping with more serious Megablocks competition there. This is proved by the fact that the Castle line 7036 Dwarves Mine set has been available for a few months now and the recently surfaced first batch of Indiana Jones Motorcycle Chase sets. Indiana Jones is - according to Lego.com - due for January (see site countdown: "the Legend goes Lego in January 2008"). I do not know if the stores are being stocked up but at least 1 or more sets will be available through Lego.com. If these new sets sell quite well, prepare for another backorder status and things might slow down a bit.
  4. Lego can not deliver anymore. Perhaps you should have gotten it earlier when the set was still available. Of course this does not help you out and perhaps you did not have the cash at the time but I always learned that if you are in a hurry to get something, you will regret that you did not act earlier. As a result you will usually end up paying more than you actually wanted. I think TRU will be out of stock soon too. It is holiday season everywhere and most SW enthusiasts will grab those limited editions immediately. All I can say is follow eBay and hope that someone offers it for a low price without reserve. Mind the shipping fee of course.
  5. Either these were found accidentally in stores just as that early Indiana Jones Motorcycle Chase or the seller has good connections with local Lego suppliers such as TRU or a Lego store for instance. I am sure the stores already have them stocked up waiting for an official signal to be released (January). And they need to offload the older sets first to make room for them on the shelves. He has more Lego so maybe he is pre-selling stuff on the internet just to make sure he is one of the first sellers to have them avaiable. Some (internet) sellers apparently do ignore release dates and offer stuff early anyway. Considering the seller is in Texas, he is nowhere near the Enfield, CT distribution center so that source can be ruled out.
  6. I do not think the bikes are that great a choice. At least not accurate. They seem to be Honda or Yamaha type motocross bikes instead of historically correct 1930s models. Oh well, an easy replacement from those old 1980s Lego sets with the old light grey motorbikes will get this right.
  7. Same here. I was looking at a few items but those gigantic mixed lots will go for a lot of money. That means that you will receive duplicates that you need to resell to retrieve some of the investment. Furthermore, shipping will be incredibly high, especially for overseas bidders even if you decide to have things shipped in separate boxes. And considering the fact that customs is still alive and kicking here, I think they will grab their "fair" share also based on the declared value on the parcel. If you buy any of the lots, this should be done with your own collection in mind. Some items are in high demand and sometimes nearly impossible to find MISB at a fair price (6080 King's Castle and 6083 Knight's Tournament for instance). Every serious bidder that can afford them will take a shot. In the end only 1 bidder can win so be prepared to see some incredibly high prices. I too would have rather seen that items were sold separately or in smaller quantities to keep prices and shipping etc. in hand. Sigh is the right word...
  8. Don't get me wrong Gyl, I too believe that this seller is to be trusted. But it would be good to know how all of this was brought together and where it originally came from. I mean, did someone die or has the seller stopped collecting? Presumably this was all purchased privately or even back in the old days and stored away for a decade or 2 and more. The boxes look quite good and here and there you will notice price stickers. For one, the seller has not done any purchasing of Lego through eBay of late since all of his feedback is over 90 days old. A year or so back there was a seller called onebreeze / e-breeze on eBay that sold discontinued sets from the early 1990s up to the mid 1990s for a retired shopkeeper who did not manage to offload his stock when he was in business. The seller mentioned this straightforward in each description that it came from a closed store and that he was helping the old man out by putting things online. By doing this, he gained some trust by giving an explanation of where he got it that this was all ligit. His honesty was reflected in the bidding but the die-hards on eBay will surely recall this. Every set was sold separately and he had a couple huge 1990s 6086 castles, 6285 BSBs and 6277 ITPs. Yes, I noticed that the resellers are already lining up. Basically, forget about bargains except for the Exploriens sets etc. that no one is really interested in and that usually do not command high prices. Expect huge numbers. Every serious Lego collector that is used to buy stuff online will have noticed this sale is going on.
  9. I was tempted to make inquiries as to where he got this amount of sets. He even listed some new things today. This is just too good. There was once a scam in Italy. An Italian seller had managed to get himself a respectable feedback rating - can't remember his name, it was about a year ago that this happened - but all of a sudden he turned into a fraud and sold MISB Lego sets using photos from the sets he supposedly had for sale and many fell for that (not me, fortunately). They paid him and for some reason he had sent rubbish items instead of the items they bought. Many lost a good amount of money through this and his feedback rating went right down the sewer. He ended up being banned (of course). You have to admit that this seller has a rather small feedback rating, nonetheless 100% positive so it looks reliable. He has not dealt on eBay for some time as all of his feedback is over 90 days old. If anyone knows more about this and / or the heritage of this huge classic collection, he or she is requested to share the news. And Gyl, you are quite right about the Asians and the Italians. If they really want it, they usually get it.
  10. Smoking and indirect light is bad for white bricks. Have you tried to follow TLC's official advice to put them in direct sunlight? This would reverse the yellowing. I always tend to soak the yellowed bricks in bleach and add an equal amount of water to the bowl (about 50 - 50 would be OK). Put the bricks in for a week max (if you keep them in longer, they might become brittle and loose much of their original gloss) and you will see that some of the bricks will really improve and become less yellow or turn completely white again.
  11. Nice creations, I especially like the big ship La Prudence III and the small fortress. You need to work on the yellowing (discoloring) of your white and light grey pieces though, that does not look too good.
  12. I saw this ship at the Legoworld Zwolle 2007 exhibition. If memory serves, this ship was part of the set-up made by members of the Belgian BeLug community. I too found that this ship was not the best design, a weak approach to improve the 6286 SES ship. I can imagine adding another deck but only if it would have been an extra lower gun deck with ports on each side. And what kind of ship does have a tan and brown two-tone effect? None I can think of. Old brown bricks and plates would have been a better choice.
  13. I admit its rarity and the fact it is a nice set to own but someone had to pay up for this: Lego promotional set 1651 Maersk Line Container Lorry
  14. Yes, but not for sale unfortunately.. :-P
  15. Well, let's see, the Battle Packs are quite abundant and still available in stores for $10 - $15. Add $50 in cash to that makes $65 max. The 5 EPII Clone Troopers makes about $50 at $10 each (for convenience reasons I used avg. BL prices but they can be found cheaper). That is another $50 and we are near $115 now. Those Driodeka's sell for $8 each on average (again on BL), so 2 are basically worth $16. The balance is at $131. The couple (how much is that, 2 maybe?) storm troopers makes an additional $12, so we finish the score at $143. 8-
  16. Perhaps he is a little older then. He was playing in a 1958 picture and now he does that again. His little younger sister who is in the 1958 picture is already died. The set does have many stickers though, especially on that movie theatre but I have to agree, it is very classic and nostalgic. Your guess is as good as mine but be prepared for a price higher than Cafe Corner. My estimate is somewhere in the
  17. Yes, I saw it too at Legoworld Zwolle today. The Lego founder's grandson Kjeld will turn 50 in 2008 and I think it said that this is his own design. It is him on the small box picture also with his little sister playing with early Lego blocks. This set is due for January 2008 so it was written on a letter.
  18. I will be there also, only on Thursday the 18th as a visitor. Last year, I was on Dutch TV also while I was there. :-$
  19. I saw this a few days ago but forgot to bring it up as I thought this had been found already. Not, so it seems. Oh well, maybe next time. And I have to agree, excellent harbor scenery with nice detail.
  20. I have seen this a week ago in the store. The postal line looks promising as does the new police station. They are the best things to come together with the new Indy line and the yellow creator house. And I should not forget the Dwarf's Mine. Let's hope that the images of the postal workers are preliminary and prototypes. Perhaps Lego is still working on new outfits or is this what they intend to call modularity... :-/ Postal plane looks very good, the van however... somewhat small. I had hoped they would make something similar to the classic 6651.
  21. I saw that too. Admittedly a nice classic town set and hard to find MISB. I was preparing to bid on that but decided to withdraw my bid as I found out it was no use trying to outbid some people who wanted it more than I did. Watch out for those Italians (besides this high bidder there are a few more of them out there). If they want something badly, you do not stand a chance bidding against them. :-(
  22. Now, now, don't get too impulsive ya'all! :-D :-D :-D Looks like my fire dept. will get a few extra men in the newer 21st century fireman outfits. I mainly have the classic ones from the 80's and 90's with the black helmets and buttoned tunics so these are very welcome indeed.

    City 2008

The truck with forklift has the dimensions of the 6348 Surveillance Squad set. Tractor and trailer, that is all that I can remember. Imagine the new Cement Mixer and Garbage Truck as a tractor with a trailer behind it. The big cargo plane is a plane with minifigs and some cargo most likely. The post plane includes 1 minifig I think and nothing else than a few accessories. It is a medium set just like all smaller helicopter and 1 minifig plane sets that we have seen in the past. I expect it to be somewhere in the 15 to 20 euro range. I do not know. The chess set most likely has glued figs and you would have to part out the chess set. The impulse line is scheduled for
