  1. Merry Christmas feeling in the works!
  2. I did a similar calculation some months ago but to see if saving MISB sets is a good investment or not. I picked out a few classic space sets that I had original prices for and compared them with BrickLink MISB-prices and factored in the inflation. I found that the sets had approximately doubled in value in 30 years, at least considering the Swedish original retail and inflation. Those classic space set's had a price-per-piece in the same range as todays Indiana Jones but cheaper than Star Wars.
  3. I read somewhere that Germany and USA are the biggest markets for TLG, so if Dr. Who has a large fan-base in those countries...
  4. I've been an AFOL for some ten years now and the prices have not increased if you look at the cost per brick. With the inflation here in Sweden I would have expected that the prices had went up with 17,2 % - but they have not. Alas the quality seems to have dropped some but it also seems that era is coming to an end with TLG bringing manufacturing back to Denmark. Consider the tolerances thats needed to make the bricks attach just right, that is no small feat (by all means, try a clone)! Also, the bricks survive so good that LEGO is the most common toy parents pass along to their children. Compared to other plastic toys in the store LEGO might seem expensive on the price tag, but given the quality of the product I have to say: LEGO might cost a lot, but it's not expensive. Also, check out other hobbies people enjoy. Like motor sports, sailing, golf...
  5. How about the old 9 V battery packs, do they also limit the current? For those high power applications perhaps they are a better choice and let an IR-connected motor only control a polarity switch between the old battery pack and the motors? Then you can also put two battery packs in series to get 18 V, but that can be really hard on the motors... Get's pretty big and hard to hide in models...
  6. TLG don't sell the old version any more, they're all fixed. It might still be on some shop shelves if the store did not return the set to get it fixed.
  7. Great... Oh well, I still love the RC stuff!
  8. Yikes, that's bad news! Thanks for clearing this up. Now you can discuss what the receiver should be, it seems it's in need for better performance!
  9. Thanks tl8! But if the 0.8 A is for the whole receiver it would not be possible to use two XL motors attached to each port simultaneously since that would amount to 1.1 A?
  10. Is there an old topic on this subject? I tried searching but I could not find any good keywords and got tons of results or nothing... Don't know how to read the data sheet but if I understand this correctly: Output sustaining voltage VO (sus) IOUT = 400 mA 9 V Then we should not even be able to use one XL motor per port?
  11. I'm sorry, but could we keep this thread about what the receivers is today and not about what they could be?
  12. Hi! Tried to find out how many motors that can be attached to one IR-receiver port. I found that Zblj mentioned 0.8 A as max for the receiver here: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=48347&view=findpost&p=850838 Is that per port, i.e. you can get that x 2 from each receiver? Is there a source on this (not that I don't trust Zblj)? I looked at Philos page about PF but it said nothing. Looking at the motor data from Philo: http://www.philohome.com/motors/motorcomp.htm Medium PF motor under load: 0.31 A. XL PF motor under load: 0.55 A. IF 0.8 A is per port you can use: Two medium per port, three if they don't work so hard. One XL per port, two if they don't work so hard. Almost one medium and one XL per port. However Philo don't say anything about how much of strain this load test is on the motors, I suppose it can be a lot higher until it peaks in stalled state (that data exists on Philos page, but it does not matter if the receiver shuts off if the motors stall). Any thoughts on this subject?
  13. Yeah, but a quasi thread would only be good to drive the vehicle sideways...
  14. Ah, did not think about that. How do you make these as a thread?
  15. Is this part useful at all? Perhaps use two per side (alas they can't be back to back unless they spin in opposite directions of course)?
  16. Haha! Thanks for the smile on my face.
  17. I had forgotten that vehicle, really special! You can build it in microscale with the worm gear. Perhaps flexi-hose is rigid enough not to collapse around a rim-built drum?
  18. "made out of technic 90% parts" What are the other 10%? MegaBlocks?
  19. I tried IMDB, what about Garden State? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0333766/
  20. Does anyone outside of the UK know Dr. Who? I only know it because I from time to time stumble upon it on the Internet, AFAIK it has never been on Swedish telly and the average Swede has no idea what it is. I scrolled down a few wikipedia-pages trying to find if it's a big thing outside of the UK but could not see anything obvious.
  21. How to tell if a movie is from Hollywood or not?
  22. More! I want more! Both from the MOC and from the story! Best of luck in the competition!
  23. I only have the 8510 Lava and the only useful part (that any Technic fan don't already have a ton of) are the halberds: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemInv.asp?S=8510-1 The sets have surprisingly high ratings: http://www.brickset.com/browse/themes/?theme=Technic&subtheme=Robo%20Riders BrickLink price guide is pretty revealing as well: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogPG.asp?S=8510-1
