  1. There has been some serious war machines that killed lot's made into sets: 10024 Red Baron 3451 Sopwith Camel Presumably the reasoning was that it was an old enough war. But if that's true they could make WWI tanks as well. In 2011 we get the new Ninja-theme with lot's of serious weapons. There's also weapons in the licensed lines like Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Batman and Spider Man. They do not make modern war machines and weapons, which I think is a good thing. LEGO's own themes does not include killing even if almost all feature some sort of major conflict.
  2. Way cool! I'm a big fan (no pun intended) of Theo Jansens various beests.
  3. No. All LAs produced after what-ever-date it was (week 36 2010?) are the upgraded kind. No reason why they should make two different versions. But one could wounder what they did with all those LAs they pulled from the already produced sets that where sent back?
  4. I think there is a difference between the NXT 1.0 Light sensor and the 2.0 version. There are some downloads at the LEGO website with blocks for the classic RCX-sensors, perhaps there is also one for the 1.0 sensor? In the program, go to tools > firmware and then check for updates. On that page I found the downloads for older sensors but did not think much about it at the time.
  5. There's a shooter in the NXT 2.0 set with these balls too, it's pretty fun. I think the pump-gun with the green balls are bigger however.
  6. Thanks! It's obvious you're clever with more things than brick, loved the "cab"-dummy!
  7. Had to dig way back to find the photos again: http://www.mediafire.com/?es662za8qdaa0ad 7051 Tripod invader shows a man getting attacked to the head by a one-eyed green "helmet". I think 7065 Alien Mothership has one as well, fig on roof has something green on the head and the box art seem to have one in the top right corner. Also love the alien with exposed brain! 7066 Earth Defense HQ has the one-eyed green "helmet" attached to a non-Alien fig. It's also clearly visible on the box art (top right corner). 7050 Alien Defender looks like the worst set in the bunch. Also not that fond of the 7067 Jet-Copter Encounter but the alien ships look really swooshable! If the prices are OK I will probably get 'em all anyway. And I agree on the analysis, near future here on earth. Perhaps not very near since the 7066 Earth Defense HQ has a earth-forces ship on the roof of the truck (could of course be confiscated Alien tech with Wikus Van De Merwe behind the controls).
  8. Make sure the polarity is correct before experimenting with other adapters... Edit: No harm in having more amps in the adapter either but voltage and polarity must be the same.
  9. I started out with BrickLink just a few months ago. In the beginning I was also looking at what bricks the store had in different colors I like. Now I look what parts they have and make sure to buy a few of what I don't already own. This way I will have a lot of different types of brick to experiment with. Correct colors can come in later orders, but having the bricks at hand makes prototyping so much easier.
  10. Yesterday I saw a documentary on Origami that begun with this quote: Much of the beauty that arises in art comes from the struggle an artist wages with his limited medium. - Henri Matisse Thought it could go well in this discussion as well.
  11. Another plus with Lithium is the low weight!
  12. Wow, highly functional! Love the autoloader. Lot's of clever solutions in there! With a few photos of the autoloader mechanism and turret the tank should be pretty easy to replicate.
  13. Put in a little voltage limiter to keep it at 9V and you have a nice little kit there!
  14. This whole theme oozes generic retro-Alien invasion and that's the main reason I already love it. Gimme retro-alien-cliché-overload!
  15. WHEN I get around to building my own I'll make sure to include something that says Sweden in the background.
  16. 1) Compare prices between PaB and BrickLink, use the cheapest source. 2) If you join a LUG you might get access to the bulk-program. You need to hurry up for the 2011 deal though. Expect the bricks to arrive no sooner than summer. Far from all bricks available and the LUG can not buy that many different kinds of bricks (the LUG has to limit the list down). 3) Call LEGO customer service and tell them you want to purchase a specific brick, use the number found in the inventory at the back of modern instructions booklets. The number also "contains" color information. 4) Try to find a DACTA/Education-supplier that ships to end customers, some bricks are cheaper to find here. 5) Find out which sets contain the bricks in questions in the highest quantities and go nuts, especially when sets are on sale. Try several different solutions to achieve a certain look and use the one that is cheapest to get from BrickLink/PaB. All big creations need either a big collection or a big wallet. The cheapest way to get a big collection is to buy sets at sale but that takes time.
  17. I'm going to a Mindstorms/NXT-competition on Friday and had been thinking about what batteries might give the best performance, especially in terms of the same performance throughout the day (solving the task is always a lot of trial-and-error and come competition I need the same performance). Seems the best option is Lithium and the next best is NiMh-rechargeable. That was a surprise, would have thought some "high grade" Alkaline would beat the NiMh. Now if I could find some Lithium batteries before then, living on the countryside does have it's drawbacks sometimes... For home use in MOCs and models I'll keep using NiMh and the 8878.

  19. This is perhaps the best MOC I've seen! I soo have to try to build one of my own!
  20. Unimog is way cool! It seem to have two levers in the middle that can be flipped up/down. I suspect one is for the winch in front and the other is for turning the crane. In the back there are three levers wich should be pneumatic valves for crane control. Bend in two joints with large pneumatic cylinder and open/close gripper with small cylinder. There should also be a compressor in there, hopefully. Box is 582 x 280 x 91 mm and release August 2011. I'd be disapointed if it's more expansive than 8043 for what it looks right now. Also looks to be not that many orange parts. Edit: As long as the pneumatics can't be remote controlled I see no point in having remote control for this model. No PF Pneumatic valves, yet. That would be awesome!
  21. Actually they do, everything reaches the surrounding temperature faster if there is wind - be it up or down. This is due to the air closest to the object acting as insulation, helping the object remain the initial temperature longer. If there is wind the "insulation" blows away... In summer vaporizing sweat keeps us cool, that's why wind cools you down on a hot day. The same effect can be used to say cool a can of beer on a hot day, wrap it in a damp towel and let the wind work it's magic.
  22. I would be very VERY surprised if water pooled in scratches could hurt a brick when frozen. Even if frozen rapidly with let's say liquid nitrogen. If you get a lot of water inside a up-side-down-brick I suppose it can happen (for instance in a Technic brick), but I don't see that happening from air humidity alone. Also, stored in the back of a car there will be a lot of temperature "sluggishness" so any rapid changes is highly unlikely. Edit: If we get another cold day here I might do some test to prove it, bummer I don't have access to liquid nitrogen!
  23. Honestly I don't give a sh*t if the model is poor or not, I'm gonna buy several just for the mLA's. Granted I will build the main model just to expand my mental library of techniques. But remember this is a "middle to low"-range set, it can't compete with the 8043 and the likes. For it's money I think it looks like pretty good play value for kids. You can get it for €53 on BrickLink: http://www.bricklink.com/search.asp?itemID=98358
