  1. It could be quite simple; the molds get worn with time. Perhaps they had to manufacture new ones and altered the design while they were at it. If the quality have been inconsistent recently that's even likely. Have to take a look at my 8043:s when I get home, I had the cardboard packed instructions but did not notice that the gears were different. Granted I had pretty poor lights while I built it and could not see that there were two different axle joiners (mixed up the tan ridged ones for the gear box with yellow smooth ones).
  2. The rotation sensor was released later/separately: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemIn.asp?P=2977c01&in=S One of the big advantages with NXT is that the motors have this built in, AFAIK, my NXT-set is still in transportation or possible at my front door already - that would save the weekend!
  3. Awesome! Love the ridiculous speed of the turret!
  4. That link gives an error about permission, adding a space after the .jpg solves that. But to save all the hassle: Agreed, that looks like it could be a good set in the hands of a better manufacturer. Dunno how © works with set ideas, but I think it would be hard for MB to win a lawsuit if TLG made Area 51-ish sets...
  5. I've had my bricks in storage for a few years (unfortunately), I had them on my parents attic which is uninsulated. That means the bricks have been enduring long periods of "extreme" colds and heat. Not sure what the actual temperatures have been but likely somewhere between down to -20°C in winter and up to +50°C in summer (heat accumulates under the roof in summer, it's terrible to go up there). Now I have taken the bricks home again (yay!) and have not noticed anything unusual about them, nor did I expect to. Lot's of different bricks including 9V, pneumatic Technic wheels etc. etc.. Why would it be worse for the bricks if they had to endure humid air before they got cold? Naturally the paper items would not like humid air, but the bricks? Also, wind chill only means things get cooled down faster - they don't get colder than the actual temperature (if they did, so would the thermometer). Wind chill is only important if you intend to stay warmer than the surrounding temperature...
  6. Or this one: 3749 Technic, Axle Pin without Friction Ridges Lengthwise In this case it seems like poor design led to cutting bricks, that's not cool. But the suspension part of the tank looks great!
  7. Interesting contraption, but at that scale I think worm gear and gear racks are perhaps a better option. I also believe most comments here does not realize it's an linear actuator, i.e. the black and white piece in the middle moves along the screw...
  8. I think we need to start with: Do the legs hold the robot standing up?
  9. Almost all of the viking ships had sails. Oars were mostly used when wind was not an option and also for tight navigation.
  10. Superkalle, you need the "for" in front of the "good" as well: För gott. Gott on it's own can't mean that.
  11. Creative!
  12. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pirate#Middle_Ages_to_19th_century I want a mushroom-smiley!
  13. D'OH! I failed! That looks schweeeet! Enjoy!
  14. I generally don't play with my MOCs that much so I have never bothered. The only MOC I've seen any dust in it this one: http://lotekbricks.blogspot.com/2000/09/eightlegs.html
  15. Hm, that could work to make a crude version. Perhaps well enough, problem will be to get the "straights" between the corners down with a lower incline. But the parts are cheap enough to order some for experimentation. Thanks! However I still want to know if it's possible to make double curved surfaces with bricks.
  16. Thanks for the reply Igor, both here and to my e-mail. :) Pretty cool way to make the rear wheels, will have to fiddle with that!
  17. Personally I would not make such modifications to the expensive bricks, especially not when I could have used the extension cords as "adapters" between LEGO and non-LEGO elements. And I don't hesitate to use non-LEGO if it gives me crucial things pure LEGO cannot. One of the reasons why your modifications raise so much resistance here is because of pure-ism. Most of the builders who make own creations pride themselves in using only unaltered official LEGO-bricks. It is in fact somewhat of an unwritten rule if you will. No cutting, sanding, painting or otherwise tampering with the bricks. Especially not if it's not reversible. Lubing can also be considering a bad act according to the unwritten builders code, depending on how fanatic you are in the "religion" called pure-ism. Custom made stickers is probably where most draw their line, they are OK as long as they're only attached to make things look better - not to hold parts together. I suppose you come from another end of this, more interested in making the LEGO models work like the real world stuff and not limiting yourself to these "rules". Which is totally fine, each person can do as he/she pleases. Or: To each and his own.
  18. The rims on the back wheel looks like these: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemIn.asp?P=47676&colorID=3&in=A Yellow Container, X-Pod Bottom Cap 9 x 9 x 1 I wounder how the tires are attached, are there any "stuffing" in them? I think I'll go ahead and e-mail iipsa.
  19. Could I perhaps propose the flag of England? Which in Viking days of course was more or less Swedish/Danish/Norwegian anyway so I suppose it's an accurate mistake.
  20. Mental note so self: Don't open this topic any more. Congratulations, well deserved! Perhaps not the MOC I would have chosen as winner (even if it's a nice MOC) but I'm pretty sure the prices would end up in your arms anyway. Edit: I've totally forgotten the English language.
  21. Why did you not buy a few of the short extension cables and slaughter them instead of the attached cables to the IR-receiver and also the XL-motor? Kinda no way back there...
  22. Anyone seen a good way to make a double curved surface? I want to build something like this: http://urbanvelo.org/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/home_finishedtrack005.jpg
  23. Like KielDaMan I don't know the game (or hardly any other game for that matter) so I went on a Google hunt, see what I found: http://www.incrysis.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=31718 Now that's pretty spot on, brick by brick! Looks sleek, I like your MOC. I see a big hatch on the rear, anything inside? Details in the cockpits?
