Custom LDD bricks and fixes
Stephan replied to Equilibrium's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
You did not get ignored, there were other things to discuss first... What did you do wrong? For standard users it is just copy-paste the rar file in the LEGO Digital Designer folder and unpack. Everything else should be automatic. And what do you mean with "reinstall all the parts again"? Did you re-add the custom parts, or reinstall LDD? If you do not have the custom colors in Extended Mode, you are probably missing files in the Palettes folder for Extended mode. No problem! When I get home from work, I will re-upload all parts files. This should fix the missing parts. I also want to publish updates easier. And adhere to the process suggested by @macouso in some way. I agree with his reasoning, now that the custom knowledge about LDD is growing for a larger group of users, we are not only talking about standard users. I need to consider the people that modified their LDD and decorations. It doesn't mean I can't make improvements anymore to LDD, but it does mean that I should provide an option for those users to be more selective with what they download. -
Custom LDD bricks and fixes

I will re-think the process. It's not rocket science so I should be able to come up with a solution. I understand what you are saying and I agree with your reasoning. Apparently during my process I sometimes just forget to copy the new files to the update folder... I need to see how I fix this consistently. -

I don't know what went wrong... There are indeed some files missing (68577 confirmed) while I set-up a new method to prevent this... But there are also a lot of parts of which the files are included that do not show up on your side... I did a quick check in the rar files and 1686, 1939, 3250 etc. are just included. So please re-check the download. There are also original parts that should just show up with no problem since only collision data has been updated. Which means that the standard LDD installation should already have all those files. Something is going wrong on your side. -

Yes, of course. But sometimes collision data is updated, and then I do not include the g files. So this update only works if you have previous updates installed. Just like any other programm. If you want to select your own files, you can download them individually or combined through Github. And like it was written in the 1st post, please refrain from asking questions in this topic to keep this topic clean and only as an informational topic about new updates. -

When you open LDD, you can select MINDSTORMS mode. This mode supports custom parts palettes, i.e. a custom list of parts. The files are located here: And can be accessed in LDD through: And of course we use LDD Extended mode, but why limit ourselves when there are so much options in LDD to make our life easier. -
Custom LDD bricks and fixes
Stephan replied to Equilibrium's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Partly true. LDD supports DecorationIDs longer than 6 digits, but then you can not use the Palette option. I use that to pre-color/pre-decorate the new parts. The paxml file does not support 7-digit DecorationIDs for some reason. Added version 20231023: LINK.This version includes 188 new parts, 49 updated original, and 40 updated custom parts, 522 new decorated parts, 1 new color, a new version of the 2020NewPreColoredParts palette and a new version of the DecorationMapping! For the first time 13 Complete set Palettes can be added to your Palettes folder providing you with only the parts you need for a certain set! Even though the parts are thoroughly checked, you might still encounter unforeseen problems during some builds. If that is the case, please let me know. For which parts are you most excited? Enjoy -

Thanks for letting me know. I will add all part files to the update again to remove any corrupted ones. If you already downloaded the update through the "update only" option, please note that the Minecraft chicken will have its PartID updated!! -
Custom LDD bricks and fixes
Stephan replied to Equilibrium's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Yeah, we do not need to keep the old values for that matter. I also already changed Nature. And I have the original available if needed for some reason. I'll look into this for a next update! -
Custom LDD bricks and fixes
Stephan replied to Equilibrium's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Yes, this is possible and I have been thinking about this as well. I have kept it as it is now due to nostalgic reasons. But they can be updated if people are OK with that. I actually though about updating these parts, re-organising their g files. Because I don't like there a 4 separate decoration surfaces. That also means there are 4 decorations per leg, so 9 in total for a leg assembly. Since we cannot use 7-digit DecorationIDs, I want to optimise the decoration surfaces and update original LDD decorations to a higher quality. Same goes for the 3626 head, and torso. But that will be a long term improvement since it would take a long time to re-draw these decorations. -

Custom LDD bricks and fixes
Stephan replied to Equilibrium's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Which PartIDs? This should be easy fixable! I'll update this part in the next update. I will see if I can add it in the upcoming update. if not, it will be in the next one. -
Custom LDD bricks and fixes
Stephan replied to Equilibrium's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
With every update there is an LXF file included that includes all new, updated, updated new and new decorated parts. I started with separate files for each update but that caused too much trouble for people who did not download all previous updates. Having one file also makes sure that everyone has the same, latest version of parts so they either all have the same issues, or have all a good working part. You should use a file hosting site for your images. Like Bricksafe. The forum has a lot of users and if they all have unlimited upload space, the server would need to be huge and expensive. Related to the outline question: let me know which parts it's about. At this moment I do not (yet) have the knowledge to fix these outlines on curved surfaces. I have no idea to be honest. The issue still occurs at my parts as well, mainly with decoration surfaces. I heard that it is caused by the direction of the normals on the edges, but I did not find an option in Blender to fix that. There are users in the forum that have mastered this 3D modelling skill, but I started with less than zero knowledge about Blender. So, I think it is a matter of choosing the correct location to hide an g surface edge. BTW, I am trying to issue an update tomorrow. I finally finished all Braille bricks! -

I will check this tomorrow. I think I did. Could be that the internal collision definition is defined there. And by deleting it, you disable auto-collision generation for certain connection types. -
LDD Brick Editor Development
Stephan replied to polymaker's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
LDD has a hard time anyway to deal with high-res meshes. Brick Editor can work with them, but it's not optimised for large-polygon meshes. Outline generation can take a long time (hours). This is due to the way outlines are generated in LDD. You need to separate the mesh first and the 8 out of 10 times outline generation works good enough if your mesh is good. -
LDD Brick Editor Development
Stephan replied to polymaker's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
It is actually really easy to work with if you try. Brick Editor is not dead, there is just very limited need to work on it since it functions perfectly for what it was designed for. Next to that the creator has other priorities in life at this moment. But he is aware that some improvements could be made. I have been using the latest versions for months now, without problems. And don't need to run it as Administrator. Actually "LDD Brick Studio" is a working title since it is just called Brick Editor. BrickLink's Studio started as Stud.io and only changed its name to Studio after Brick Editor's first release. But since the two operate on different use cases both can co-exist. Well, the interface serves its functions. Important things are clear and boundaries are auto-generated. And connections are added in the same way as collision boxes. Once you get used to it, it is actually really easy and handy. And another panel would be a waste of space. -
Custom LDD bricks and fixes
Stephan replied to Equilibrium's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Yes, awesome! The minifig head and the egg turned out awesome. The Technic ball I managed to find something that seems to work in the mean time. No, unfortunately not. I have tried everything. I am already in contact with polymaker to see if we can change LDD's internal automatic collision data. -
Custom LDD bricks and fixes

I remember that at the start, when we were just working with adding parts to LDD, when polymaker just cracked the code, CaDa was in contact with me if they could supply CAD files in order for me to add them to LDD. Because LDD was not official abandoned by LEGO at that moment, I told them that it would not be possible. If they want to re-consider, I am happy to add them for the people that are interested in them. HELP WANTED!! I need help with a UV projection and UV map for 28621 where the UV map comprises the complete head, instead of what is going now with 3626 which consists of 2 decoration surfaces. And help with adding a decoration surface to 24946 (Egg) and creating the UV map for it for me. And if possible as well for 32474 [Technic ball]. -

Correct! LEGO cheated a bit here. -

When I go to the installation folder, I have no db folder there... So that's funny. No idea what's going here in this case... I only have the C:\Users\[user name]\AppData\Roaming\LEGO Company\LEGO Digital Designer db folder and that's also the folder where I update and change all existing parts. I e-mailed @polymaker about this issue as well and hope for a reaction soon. -

I tried it with Brick Editor software and with your method, minus deleting the db folder since I have thousands of new 'custom' parts and decoration added. My db folder is located in C:\Users\Admin\AppData\Roaming\LEGO Company\LEGO Digital Designer. Final check: does your LDD have collisions turned off. -

That also doesn't work. And that is partly because the db folder contains all part data so you are deleting your part library, and partly because connection 19 (Hollow Technic pin) is in collision with connection 21 (Hollow bar (OD: Ø3.2mm ID: Ø1.5mm)). Connection type 6 (Bar Ø3.2mm holder) is used to connect the 3.18 bars to this part. When you remove connection 19, everything is fine with hollow bars, but the part does not attach to Technic holes anymore. Use connection 3 (Technic pin Ø4.8mm) and (hollow) bar no longer fit. This collision is probably due to auto-generated collision boxes of these connections (just like with studs which have auto-generated collision boxes assigned to them) and is not something we can fix. If you have found a fix, please share your connection data, since for part 4274, mine are and I tried every combination of these connections, but can not find a solution: <Connectivity> <Axel type="19" length="0.8" grabbing="0" startCapped="0" endCapped="1" angle="120" ax="-0.57735" ay="0.57735" az="-0.57735" tx="0" ty="0" tz="0" /> <Custom2DField type="23" width="2" height="2" angle="90" ax="-1" ay="0" az="0" tx="-0.4" ty="-0.4" tz="-0.8"> 29:0,29:0,29:0, 29:0,3:4:38,29:0, 29:0,29:0,29:0 </Custom2DField> <Axel type="6" length="0.979" grabbing="0" startCapped="0" endCapped="0" angle="120" ax="0.57735" ay="0.57735" az="0.57735" tx="0" ty="0" tz="-0.979" /> </Connectivity> -

That doesn't work, because then they don't attach to pin holes anymore.. -

Can you send me your connection data for 4274? -

Sorry for the delay in the update! There seems to he a problem with the LEGO part database. They update is waiting on the correct LEGO Braille bricks decoration numbers. Consider the amount of Braille bricks, I want to have all the numbers correct before I distribute the update.
