The wizard's beard looks awesome. Still hate the cartoony lion. Dragon heraldry is ok. I'll use it, but not my favorite.
-
I love the argument that since the sets are aimed at kids, it's ok for the heraldry to be terrible. It would be interesting to show kids shields from kingdoms and these new shields and ask them which they like better.

There are some cool new pieces. That is a plus. It's the heraldry which turns me off. The lions and dragons from Kingdoms was so superior. I don't like the cartoon lion at all. The dragon is ok, but nothing special. I'll probably pick up some of the new pieces on bricklink and skip these sets. Too bad. I would have loved a new minifig faction to collect.

Since the lion shield is my least favorite, we should figure out a way to trade each other. :)

1987 Castle Comic Book: The Robber Baron

Never seen these before! I thought I had seen it all... I would love high quality scans with no background... Would be fun to read to my kids. -
I'm hoping the prelim pics don't have the new Mordor armor in them yet...

Ok, maybe not a new Orc hairpiece but armor and helmets. If you look at the early star wars sets, the figures today are way ore detailed. If the line lasts long enough, I think we will get our Orc variety.

Yeah, Mouth of Sauron is amazing, and I love the new elf hairpieces. I'm crossing my fingers the orcs are bald because they are getting new hairpieces, but I doubt it. Maybe it came down to a decision between new elf versus new Orc hair? Hopefully we will see new Orc hairpieces in December with the second wave of hobbit sets.

I gave up trying to find the Mirkwood Elf polybag at Toys R Us so I bought three on Bricklink. Only a 60% mark up. :P

Could you guys PLEASE move these conversations to a more appropriate thread?

I would also like to see this thread limited to new information on the 2013 sets, and comments on the new information. I'd like to see speculation, ideas for new sets, etc. in a second thread. Just my opinion.

I like the molded horses, goats, pigs, etc, but for some reason I like larger creature to be brick built.

That is awesome! Love the bell, chain, three tower levels, pulpit, interior... Those are always my favorite parts. Where are the graves, btw?

Search for "Mirkwood Elf" at toysrus.com. It will tell you which stores by you have them... But it isn't always right. It told my the store by me had some but they couldn't find them and cancelled my order. Good luck! http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=17328336&prodFindSrc=search -
I am not a fan of the Goblin King. Not in the movie, and not in the set. Where in the Hobbit does it say he is the size of an ogre? Would of much rather had another normal sized goblin with a crown. Any ways...

I'm always in favor of a new shield design. Even if it is the same creature, like a dragon, it can be a part of the family that split off and wants to differentiate themselves. Think about Game of Thrones... If it is a wolf, maybe a Stark family member splits off. If a dragon, it is a long lost Tygarian returned from over seas... Anyway, anything new is good in my book. Now, I agree that the design doesn't look as good. lol. I would also prefer a new animal with a better crest, but I can make it work.

I am confused about the release dates. Could someone please clarify? ;)

Would love to see how the tower corners were built. Very cool MOC. Love the two colors of blue under the transparents for the ocean.

Two main reasons, neither having any relevance to the quality of your creation. 1. The votes aren't climbing quickly enough. Either because it is lost in the mess of low quality posts, or because it doesn't have mass appeal. (Maybe both). 2. Because Lego seems to only select creations that are radically different from anything else they've ever launched, and have rabid fan bases. Minecraft for example. It attracts non-Lego fans. Purdue Pete will be interesting. Same idea as Minecraft but much smaller fan base. I hope I'm wrong, because this is a cool idea and well executed.

Put them all together!

I was disappointed Lego used regular breastplates on the Uruks. The helmets, heads, shields, torsos, and swords are awesome. With new breastplates would have been perfect. I agree that Mordor orcs should get new breastplates, not just printing. Moria orcs were lightly armored, as were the orcs in the Hobbit. So far the orcs released are just fine, but as they release sets from the Moria armies I would like to see new helmets, breastplates, shields as well as some new heads...

Awesome. I love the melted snow. The color choices are great. Agree with others about the grey tree trunk. Black would be better.

I like this, and supported it. I doubt it will become a set though, which is too bad.
