  2. Having seen one "in the flesh" as it were, I was pretty impressed with the detail and "coolness" factor. Can't comment on the build however as Steve, John and Robin hogged all the fun. [pic=link]
  3. Interesting. I have been stocking up on 1x2, 1x3, 1x4 and 1x6 bricks because I find I am using almost no 2x bricks in my city creations. I am just finding the aesthetic of what I consider the "minifig-wall" to be too compelling. 2x bricks just feel clunky to me so I tend to use then only for foundations or lintels that jut out from the wall for windows or doors and such. Of course, that only applies if you are doing interiors. Maybe that is another question to consider in designing a city. Are you going to do "full" buildings (Modular Houses-style) or just facades and 3/4 buildings (Classic Town-style)? Or perhaps a combination of MH and some facades like I have seen people use when a table is against a wall and they use facades only 2-4 studs deep against the wall. Aaaaagh, too much to think about. Just buy any non-licensed sets with roofs, windows and doors (the creater sets mentioned above are great but Green Grocer or Cafe Corner would make a fantastic start).
  4. I could tell from the pictures that a lot (maybe all) the designs on the raft were stickers. In the whole set are there any printed parts besides the torsos or is it all stickers?
  5. Oooh, please, could you post the full size of this one! I miss my Mac Classic.
  6. I placed an order already and also added your store to the Custom elements article on BrickWiki.
  7. Hi Skipper, let me explain how this works. This is called a thread. The title of the thread is "7628 Peril in Peru". The title is found at the top of the page and should have been the link you clicked on to get here. Now, here is the tricky part which I guess no one explained to you (and others): adding replies to this thread should only done if you have something to say on the topic at hand (as indicated in the "title"). If you want to talk about new sets in other themes you should navigate to the appropriate thread. Sorry you and the others were not aware of how polite discussions are carried out in a forum. This is very different from an online chat system where it would be totally appropriate to make whatever random comments on whatever random topics comes to your mind. Anyway, thanks in advance for keeping on topic.
  8. Clones...coastguard...agents... are these in Peru? Not to be a mini-mod but WTF does any of this have to do with Peril in Peru (7628)?
  9. Sorry, I was thinking out loud about how much work it would take to re-size the image and print to fit in where the stickers are supposed to go. As for issues of copyright in this, as our Brickish members might say, I don't give a toss!
  10. Hmmm, I wonder if I can print these out and use them in the Theater in the new Town Plan set?
  11. Talk about looking a gift horse in the mouth! We are presented with possibly the best LEGO plane ever and people are upset because in the film it only appeared for a short time? They give us an accompanying baggage cart, stairs and tractor which did not appear but make sense as accessories but you would rather not have them? The silly sword rack... well so it replaced the suitcase full of swords, who cares! We got more edged weapons with it than any recent castle set of similar size and what a cool selection! Three cutlasses, two grey knives (my fave), a classic-style broadsword and a gold katana! They could have just included a suitcase like in the movie and not bothered giving us extra weapons. Would that have been better? I suppose we are all gonna throw away the new dark green crocodiles because they weren't in the film? Sheesh! Frankly I am glad the sets are not slavish reproductions of the scenes in the film. We are getting cool parts and isn't that what it is all about! Actually I take it all back, you guys are right, nobody buy these sets...and I can scoop up lots of cool elements when the sets are remaindered...oops better stop typing diabolical thoughts in head...
  12. Did I miss something? Every Redwall book I read had lots of death and battles.
  13. Am I the only one who loves the sets overall but finds the rock "base" of the lighthouse/tower way too MEGA BLOKS? It looks like something out of my sons Dragons:Fire and Ice sets. Seriously, that is taking BURP/LURP too far!
  14. Completely brilliant! The sash on the Drum Major, the helmet plates, the glockenspiel... all fantastic. Is the large drum attached to the animal skin like the side drums (loop through the drum decal)?
  15. Why can't you both do reviews?
  16. Well, as a 40-year-old AFOL I have had similar comments made to what you did and I usually just smile, laugh and, if I have a chance, talk to the kid who said it. I love getting that kind of reaction. I would not have been offended at all, but then I have a sense of humour that does think it is kinda funny to be spending hundreds of dollars on LEGO at my age.
  17. Thanks for the heads up. I have been waiting for such a theme.
  18. The scale is absurd isn't it? Even allowing for some the angle of the pictures the truck looks gigantic.
  19. OK, now that I have seen the pics on BS I am in agony! How on earth did you do the tumblehome? Is it all hinged just above where the sides transition from hull pieces to brick? If so, how do the hinged sides connect to the bow and stern and interior or are they held in by the rigging? I don't suppose you have any WIP shots? Edit: it just occurs to me that a tutorial on how to create a tumblehome effect would be really cool. Especially comparing the different methods people have used. Just a suggestion for anyone not trying to put you on the spot Cap'n.
  20. In a word: Breathtaking! Especially the way you have widened the hull without the use of inverse slopes. Very nicely done. The entire bow and figurehead is really well done and although I am not enthusiastic about string rigging it certainly works well on this model. I can hardly wait to see more when the BS folder is opened. I want to see if you have really done a tumblehome or if it is just a really good illusion. I assume I have missed this on other mocs but the use of the small fence/railings as ladders just struck me as really brilliant. A nice detail I plan to use.
  21. I think we have all at some point tried some sort of stacking system. The problem I discovered over the last year is that this will actually damage LEGO elements if they are left joined together. I wish I could remember if it was Bjarke(from LEGO Quality control team)'s talks @ BrickFest and BrickCon last year or some online discussion but I seem to remember that future "clutch" power is compromised if the bricks are joined for long periods of time. Stable if left in place permanently but they will not grip other elements as well if left joined for long periods and then separated. Whenever I find little stacks now I pull them apart - except the minifig heads. They are just sooo much easier to search if I can look at a stick of ten or fifteen heads at once.
  22. Whatever works for you. I linked to the article because it was more entertaining than just a simple BS folder but I did also link to the Legaña Brickshelf folder. I will make adjustments and see if I can work all three in there. Edit: Your link is to the main Legaña folder which was already linked so I have left it the way it was. Let me know when you make a separate folder just for Santa Maria and I can add it in.
  23. Very nice. As a fan of vexillology I especially like the nice simple flag. I have added Santa Maria to the Gazeteer of Cities, Towns and Villages on BrickWiki
  24. You are comparing apples and oranges. CCCP was the initials (in Russian) of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics no more or less offensive than the initials USA and used in the same way. The initials did not represent an ideology of hatred. You might have a case against the hammer and sickle emblem I suppose but that does not appear in any pictures of the sets I have seen. In any case, neither the hammer and sickle nor the initials CCCP have ever risen to the level of hatred, despair and loathing that the swastika evokes in the civilized world. The swastika is actually illegal in Germany and enough to bring charges under hate crimes legislation in some western nations.
  25. Not stupid, just a little confused. The problem is not depicting German soldiers but rather using Nazi symbols. The problem is basically the swastika which is illegal to be displayed in Germany and offensive to different degrees in other European nations and the civilized world. The hammer and sickle may represent a negative for many people but it has never been seen in the same way as the swastika. Of course I have not seen detail enough to know if it is even on the minifigs or vehicles. Is the hammer and sickle printed on anything in these sets?
