  1. Actually that is why I like 6-wide cars. 6-wide = cars & vans 7-wide = trucks 8-wide = trains These dimensions allow for more realistic building, fit together nicely, work with current road plates and are still viable trains for engines to pull. If you took trucks to 8-wide you would have to make trains 9 or 10-wide and that would burn out motors too quickly from what I understand.
  2. Long Live the Glorious 6-wide Revolution! *sing* Seriously, after getting Escape From Privet Drive and building the blue Ford I could never go back to 4-wide. Two minifigs should be able to sit side by side. What else is there to say?
  3. Totally! The guys at VicLUG are getting used to me saying "4-wide is SOOO 1990's" and "Live in the NOW, man!" 6-wide cars fit the road plates just fine.
  4. Not surprising since it was on CBC. :-D It was a huge hit for CBC for the last two seasons and the third season starts later this month. Of course I grew up watching it on PBS after a year living in England got my family hooked (ahhh, the green death still gives me the willies.) I want Jon Pertwee driving Jo Grant in the Whomobile with the Brigadier and Sergeant Benton in the Land Rover! There's two great sets right there!
  5. I see no mistake. The "9.00 each" applied only to the "buy it now" option. The auction was clearly for four figures. If they were a fixed price item then they should not have been accepting bids as an auction.
  6. What happens when someone tries to pass off a replica as genuine LEGO? Are you OK with anyone simply copying LEGO pieces and selling them? Do you really think TLG is likely to ever consider a new Pirate line if we are ripping off their designs and thus competing with them? I'm not a lawyer either but they did spend a lot of time in court fighting Mega Bloks et al. Since we could never afford the legal defence for this project the right or fairnes never enters into it. If they decided the project was a problem they would shut it down and we would be out any money invested. Actually I don't do French at all and will not be doing lancers which could also use that style. I was simply suggesting that for those who want to create large armies of French Infantry or any type of lancers they might find the more accurate to historical hats appealing. They might then be willing to trade "British" for the new "French.
  7. Sorry to bring this one up again but I don't think we need or want to replicate the LEGO shako for two reasons. First, as fans of LEGO the idea of ripping off LEGO designs should be repugnant not to mention possibly actionable in court. Second, we won't need them if we make the French version because those who are really into French armies will switch and thus make available more of the "English" LEGO official version shakos. That said, I could see doing a second version of the shako perhaps in the shorter style so that there would be three versions: English (official LEGO), French and Austrian/other.
  8. Busby: If by "polish lancer shakoos" you mean: I would have to disagree. It would be cool but could we sell enough to warrant production? The French style shako could substitute for this style thus increasing the market for that item. I don't know what you mean by "cavalry helmets with a rope wearn by dragoons". I usually see them wearing Busby's. It would be nice to make every style of helmet/hat but the question has to be: can we sell 5,000 of them as that is the number of sales we would have to make from each "slot" in the mold. I know some guys have a large army and we could charge more for individual items but that is still a lot of items to sell just to break even.
  9. Having spoken with him I don't get the impression he is trying to scare away competition and Napoleonic-era accessories are not part of his product line so there is no real competition to his products. Wow, I wish you could have been at the talks he gave as well as the talk by Bjarke (sp?) the Quality control guy from LEGO. There is soooo much more to the design of an element than the shape and size. There is materials flow, sprue placement, pin placement, materials shrinkage and a half dozen more things I'm sure he could tell you about. It can be done. I would just suggest we come up with 6-7 elements we would like to see produced and then someone can make a business plan for production based on being able to sell a wider range of product. Maybe then someone can pick up the ball and make the investment or lead a consortium of investors to create the Brick Arsenal LLC or whatever. Possible Items: - french style shakos (wider at top than bottom) - muskets w/attached bayonets - wedgie caps (I don't know what the real name is for what I think of as "air force" caps) - cavalry/highlander sword (partial basket hilt?) - saber/scimitar (slightly curved blade) - grenadier helmets Items that sound appealing but I don't think would sell enough to be useful: - Imperial Eagles - alternate epauletes - alternate backpacks - busby helmets
  10. I should point out that Will has actually bought molds and uses them in production. His estimates cannot be discounted so easily since his knowledge is based on experience. Of course he is very demanding. I have met Will at two different Brick events and attended presentations at both where he discussed what he had to do to get his accessories into production. It comes down to "you get what you pay for". His estimate is for high quality work with low margin for error and very exacting specifications. No offence intended, but plastic pieces for a board game are not likely to require nearly such high quality as they (usually) do not have to connect together so estimates for mold production using those specifications are going to be unrealistically low. Do we really want shakos that fall off as easily as the crappy new viking helmets? That is likely to happen if you cheap out on the molds. I think that the discussion of adding other accessories (ie: musket w/ attached bayonet) is what would make the project more feasible. Will's molds had space for a certain number of weapons and while producing just shakos might make the project feasible I would think that adding other accessories would allow for more sales from the molds production, thus paying the costs off faster.
  11. I am even more confused. If BW has only one article then it would be perfect. A wiki is a place to create, share and collaboratibvely edit. You would have free reign to create a category and turn it into something fantastic while building a resource for all LEGO fans. I don't understand your comment about the LEGO employee. Anyone can edit BW. A former Master Model Builder has been adding to the site and providing great details about the roles and responsibilites of model builders from an insiders perspective. Sorry, I just like the idea of a single online LEGO encyclopedia for all LEGO fans that has great articles on all LEGO themes.
  12. I am curious as to why not just create articles about Exo-Force on BrickWiki?
  13. I'm curious. I have been planning to rebuild My Cafe Corner (and related MOCs) to better fit onto road plates and convert to studded sidewalks. Are you just dropping yours on top of road plates? Is so, how well does that lay out over mutliple road plates? Any problems?
  14. It burns usssss. Nasssty Mega Bloks. Sails: crap Figures: American Football Linebackers wearing costumes, crap Figurehead, lantern, sterncastle decoraton: actually nice looking but totally out of place stylistically Masts, spars: smooth grey?!?!, crap Overall: Why spend money on Mega-Crap? Fer gosh-sakes the new Duplo Pirate ships look better. Thanks for sharing but if we wanted MB reviews we could go to a MB website. :-X

    H.M.S. Indi

When I saw the title of the thread I thought it was short for "Indiana". Hmm, Indiana Jones for the figurehead.... Sorry, got distracted there. I did want to say I liked the use of the grill plate for the deck. It worked very well in the small space and being able to see into the gun deck is nice. I have often wondered if it would be possible to do a ship with the log pieces sideways and use the ability to curve to good effect.
  16. Wierd, I thought it was a permanent thing in every store? I went to the Seattle, WA store last October during NWBrickCon and the Portland, OR store last month during Brick Fest and they had this. They even let you buy any 5 items for the "complete minifig" price. That's how I picked up a dozen slave-girl Leia legs and other bits without actually buying a complete fig. Of course it may have been special "fest" pricing but I am sure I paid less than 1/2 the price you quoted. :-/
  17. What utter B.S. He does no such thing. His website is very clear that the images are intended for a mature audience and he makes very explicit warnings about the content. Either you have never even visited the site or you are blind. In either case you have not a leg to stand on.It is indeed the parents responsibility to teach their children. It is also their responsibility to monitor internet useage and decide what is appropriate. Of course, if you object to the images then I assume you also object to children reading the bible since all the images are simply renderings of the stories contained therein.
  18. Uhm, in my LEGO universe 3 plates=1 brick high which would make the dimensions: 1st & 2nd floor - 9 bricks & 1 plate 3rd floor - 9 bricks ;-)
  19. See, this is where The Brick Testament is not just silly fun, it can educate as well. Clearly you are not aware that Paul is the source cited most in defence of homophobia by Christians. His letters are often used to support arguments regarding appropriate sexuality. If the Brick Testament actually gets people to read the words then it has done a great service to mankind. He adds no violence or sexual content that is not already there. In fact, overall he is quite restrained (perhaps constrained by the medium itself) as the books of the bible are full of sex and violence. Someone mentioned the scene after the great flood. Seriously, what would you expect after the waters receded? Blooming flowers and pastoral scenery? I would expect bloated corpses and fields of mud and detritus. Skeletons are actually less messy than rotting flesh.
  20. Which begs the question why are the indices still BB threads? Can't we just make real html pages? I do the tab thing but I find it awkward when using my laptop. Not a biggie but it would improve the user experience. (Sorry day job intruding again.)
  21. I am having a hard time finding a particular MOC ship. In the thread discussing HMS Expedition someone referencd ZCerberus's method of extending the mast. So I trundle off to the index and I find pages of pictures but no other information. The search "tutorial" is fine to a point but it is sort of cumbersome for searching by creator. I guess adding a lot more information might be too much but could we at least get say the creator and ship name inserted as a "title" so that when the mouse hovers over the picture we could see that information? ie: "HMS Surprise, luckyjack" Oh, and more of a general point, why oh why does virtually every link open a new f#$*!%@ window! I click the "search" button and am forced into a new window. Navigate the site from the main page and by the time you are done you have a half dozen windows open on your desktop! :S
  22. It seems really bright when they are both on. *sweet* Sorry I have no idea what that works out to but the compact flourescents are much brighter for the wattage.
  23. Nope, but it came with two compact flourescent bulbs marked 26W.
  24. Keeping in mind I am speaking in Canadian dollars, I think we spent over $350 for the basic kit and the large size light box. We were feeling flush with cash after receiving an inheritance and the wife didn't trust my DIY abilities - probably wise becasue she would likely still be waiting over a year later. X-D The large light box by itself was, I think, more money than the basic kit. Very expensive, I thought but it should last for years and the alternate background cloths (six colours total) is a really neat feature.
  25. I bought a kit from a local camera supply store. It is being marketed for people selling on eBay but came with the box and two lamps: (pic is also link to more info from random supplier - we bought it at local shop.) We bought the basic kit and then went back and bought the 24" box as well which will fit a MOC on a 32x32 baseplate or bigger.
