That is a freakin' huge army! Perhaps you should apply "selective compression" to your army and not worry so much about absolute numbers (ie. 1:1 scale). Like you I hope there are some sort of red-coated soldiers in the new pirates line because I need a few more as well and they are getting crazy expensive since some guy started buying hundreds of them...

Sorry, didn't mean to "rant" but perhaps not posting the URL publicly until launch day might have been a good idea.

So reading the really fun review of the Holiday Villa I notice "Classic-Town.Net" on the pictures. Being curious I try the URL and lo and behold yet ANOTHER "splitter" site. Coming so soon on the heels of the Forbidden Cove/Classic-Pirates incident I have to wonder why the sudden surge in "splitter" communities? I mean, I know Trains-n-Town seems to have had some issues with their servers in the last week but was it really so bad we needed another blog-based site for this theme? I see that Brick Town Talk is more for "modern" Town buildings but for some reason Classic-Town.Net is going to cover both classic and modern town sets (according to their info.) I have not been this confused since the Brickshelf debacle. It would be nice if these new websites would post information to the community BEFORE they go online. FB already got it's wrist slapped and had to issue clarifications and apologies to all and sundry. I hope some clarifications of purpose and intent will forestall any bad feelings in this case. Edit: Sorry the topic should read .Net not .Com.

Competition in Legoland, California
tedbeard replied to Francis Marion's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I was there with my wife and kids three weeks ago and after doing Disneyland a couple of days before which was open from 8:00 - Midnight it was very odd that they opened so late. I wish we had done two days @ Legoland so we would have had time to enjoy the water park section. Of course while I am wishing I wish we could have waited a month or so and been there when "Sea Life" opened/opens. I would sure like to hear about Sea Life from someone who has been through as it looked really interesting from the preview. -
7673 Magna Guard Starfighter Review
tedbeard replied to Dark Sword Ragnarok's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Actually no, a review is an opinion piece that analyzes the qualities of something highlighting both positives and negatives of the materials provided, design, pricing and whatever else is relevant. Illustrations are important and can be used effectively but some of the best reviews I have ever read of LEGO sets had no illustrations other than the main box image. Taking detailed pictures during the build is useful if they are highlighting an interesting or new building technique or element. If I want to see every step of the build however I could just download the instructions. -
The "treads" ( Technic, Axle Joiner Double Flexible) are attached to a Plate, Modified 1 x 1 with Clip: using a custom cut piece of rigid tubing threaded through at the back. I will try to take a picture of it "exploded" later today. EDIT: I added an exploded view:

I guess I'll add mine as well:

BTW, that is a fantastic cockroach!

It will be a blast. Here on the far Left Coast of Soviet Canuckistan we get concerts, shows and fireworks in the Inner Harbour to close off the day. Oh, and as a huge tourist town we get hundreds of American tourists wondering why we are celebrating the Fourth of July with strange flags three days early.

That was fun cruising the new store before it opens. I can hardly wait to order some roman helmets.

You first!

Oh, you mean you READ ABOUT the IDEA of doing a brodie ages ago as opposed to actually seeing a brand new prototype unveiled last weekend.. Until last weekend the discussion on the BA forums was "we would like Will to make this item". Now it is an item "in development" so maybe you can stop being snarky.

Revisiting old topics (Bumping)
tedbeard replied to Tom_castlefan's topic in Forum Information and Help
Given that I see year-old threads dredged up all the time and threads that go for 30+ pages and months without being split-off I think you are pretty safe on a 2-month-old thread. -
Ages ago? It was only introduced at Brickworld in Chicago last weekend. Going by the time frame for BA series 3 I would guess it could be in production in time for Christmas although probably not in time for BrickCon in October where I know both Will and I will be so I could get some. If you can't wait and/or you can do it cheaper than $1 per each (guess based on $1 price of the M1 helmet) then by all means, full-steam ahead!

So they are all standard current bricks? For some reason I thought they were going to be examples of the evolution of the brick. Guess I was just daydreaming at some point.

Much better! (Although I think pic #2 & 3 are duplicates - perhaps you copied the link by accident?)

This is fantastic. I can hardly wait to see the pub! I especially like the bay windows.

Seriously, the thought is great but other figures need to move besides the main characters. Make them turn their heads or raise/lower arms, take a step, anything! And of course the blurry pictures are getting tiresome. Is there not a close-up function on your camera or do you need a tripod (small ones are only $10-20.)

sorry but we are discussing Indy and I read the above as "it's $100 N-A-Z-I Dollars". OK, minor silliness past. Please continue.

It looks larger than a basketball and if you look closely it appears to be very "dense". The fact it is 3-D rather than a facade really ups the piece count I think. The floors and structure look quite solid and would have to be to support the whole thing standing on one point.

Well, I think you will find that most AFOLs have a very clearly definition that agrees with the LEGO definition of Modular Houses and that is buildings designed to fit together on a street. I recently wrote the Modular Houses article on BrickWiki and I think you will find that if you read the guidelines carefully you will see that they encompass how buildings join together (technic brick and pin placement) how wide they may be (multiples of 16-wide paseplates), and how much area must be left at front and back (sidewalks/alleys). The internal modularity of a building such as Market Street is cool but irrelevant to the MH standard. Build away, but please stop complaining that other people are doing it wrong if they choose not build 16x16 segments.

Did anyone else get five or more emails from RailBricks with this announcement?

I was at my local TRU store less than 2 hours ago and they had a half-dozen copies on the shelf which arrived late yesterday or this morning.

Could not disagree more! I would recommend buying multiple copies of the tan creator house as parts to build town MOCs. Wonderful colours and huge numbers of 1x tan bricks along with windows, doors and enough black slopes to actually make a real roof! What more could you want? Sorry, but a town with nothing but stock sets would be very disappointing.
