  1. It was on the back of the latest Lego Club magazine (Australia). That must be the purple dragon everyone's talking about. The blue ship thing to the right of it looks interesting.
  2. Hmm...
  3. Hmm. The Saleucami set is essentially a battle pack. I did expect a little more but oh well, I guess that fills up the usual bad guy slot. I know the pictures are preliminary, but it looks like the BARC Trooper reuses the Phase II helmet instead of getting a new mould. Clever.
  4. Thanks for the info. Four battle packs is great news, but the lack of a Droid battle pack is a bit strange. Too bad about the planet sets though, the planets and little models were pretty cool. I suppose there are only so many planets you can use anyway...
  5. With Man of Steel though, the film is one version of Superman's story, rather than an adaption like The Hobbit. I personally feel the former is justified, the latter, less so. I'm still annoyed about Azog's claw, particularly as it can't hold anything and it's purely cosmetic. It wouldn't annoy me quite as much if it was in proportion. Here's what I think Azog should look like:
  6. Hmm. The Lake-Town set looks nice, if perhaps a little unfinished. It probably wouldn't be too difficult to get multiples and expand it. It's too bad the colours on the render are darker than the actual thing though. The dark brown looked great.
  7. Hmm, the rear section looks more accurate and it seems more angular. The top cannon/gun looks strange though, it looks like there's a flick-fire thing where the cannon should be. I like it, personally. I missed out on the first one, so it's nice to see a remake of this considering the AT-AP is probably one of the more obscure vehicles from the films.
  8. Oh wow, this would be really cool to have because I live so close to the actual thing. But alas, the price will probably be stopping me.
  9. Orthanc is the main representation of evil in the first and second films, and it's a tower, which I imagine would be easier to design in a larger scale. I can't realistically see anything being close to that scale, not even Minas Tirith. Though I can imagine two or three buildings in a D2C set like Diagon Alley, and few things could work for that (Edoras, Rivendell). Lothlórien could perhaps work as a Goblin-town-sized set, but I doubt it'd be any larger than that. I just thought of something, the domed structure the White Council meets in might make for a nice set. Maybe that could be a possibility.
  10. The set is specifically called The Council of Elrond. It's depicting that scene only, not Rivendell as a whole. And considering the background in that scene is pretty much just a circle of chairs, there's only so much you can do with it anyway. Yes, it's been downscaled quite a bit and I originally didn't like that, but I suspect a bigger version would be repetitive. Of course, it could have been part of a larger Rivendell set, but again, it's just that scene the set's focusing on. The Ewok Village surprised me because we're so used to seeing vehicles and bases in Star Wars. The Village is more... "civilian", even though there is a fight that takes place there. Lothlórien isn't too unreasonable, I don't think it's any less iconic. The real limitation is what can actually be in the set.
  11. Wow, that's great! Lots of nice detail there. Leia looks a bit odd to me though, the fabric skirt is weird.
  12. Hmm, looks like a nice solid ship. Nice figures too, although I would've preferred a Republic Trooper in place of the Sith one. Even if they're based on specific characters, it's interesting that a large licensed set like this doesn't feature named figures on the front of the box. I can't recall the last time I saw that in recent history.
  13. Well, I really doubt we're ever going to see anything even near the scale of Orthanc. Orthanc is a tower, firstly, and the height of the set was probably prioritised over the structure (which is why we only get half of it, though you could say we would've gotten half anyway). Orthanc also has an interior which works rather well, I'm not sure what Minas Tirith has besides Denethor's hall. More importantly, where would the interior be? Probably not in the walls, so that's at least half of the set just being there for decoration. I think the idea posted on Cuusoo is quite nice. Multiple layers of walls is about all I can think of doing at the moment, I can't see Minas Tirith realistically happening any other way.
  14. If you're a completionist and like displaying minifigs, getting multiples of named characters might not actually be that bad a thing. I personally disliked multiple figures until I realised I could use the spares as variants. For example, I own two Aragorn figures. The first is normal with the neutral expression, and the second has the angry expression with a torch (i.e. to represent Aragorn in the Weathertop scene). And with the third Aragorn that I'll get from the Corsair ship, I'm planning to give him a bow, as he had one briefly in Moria. And of course, if you like customising minifigs, you can always do that too. It's only when we miss out on other characters that multiples really become a problem. As for the army-building argument, while it's a shame that we haven't got an affordable battle pack type set yet, I think this line as a whole is aimed more at collectors. We've seen the entire lineup of the Fellowship and the Company, both in their respective waves, and the sets have obviously been designed to include all the figures. The second wave for The Lord of the Rings is smaller, but that's likely because of Orthanc. So all three waves thus far have been restricted to make room for the characters or Orthanc, and theoretically, that means that they could go crazy in any future waves. Many of us seem to have rather high expectations, but we don't actually know how long this license will go for, nor do we know what's ahead. I don't think we can judge it just yet.
  15. Yeah, it's a shame. The actual parts just barely miss out, but there is a way to make the hair fit by not pushing down the head fully so there's a small gap. The only downside is that the mouth is visible if your face is printed slightly higher, but at least it's a purist solution to modifying the piece.
  16. Argh... I knew this would happen with Iron Patriot. I think most of us did. Video games are pretty expensive in Australia too, so even if this were offered as a bonus here, I probably won't get it. I'll see if they've got any left over and buy the game when it's cheaper. Otherwise, I'll have to pass.
  17. Maybe it was an error on Target's part, because the receipt didn't show that they were discounted and they might have just applied it accidentally anyway. Oh well...
  18. Hmm, I went to my Target yesterday and I got the discount. Although Lego isn't included as one of the brands, I think it should still work. At any rate, I recall a sign that just said "20% off toys" in front of the Lego section and that was applied to my purchase. On another note, do we know if the Arkham Asylum set (10937) is going to be available in stores?
  19. Okay... so, after a closer look... I'm not sure if the Ent is meant to be Treebeard. The press release only says "Ent", not "Treebeard" and it looks bulkier than the video game's version. So there's still some possibility we might see him. As for the set itself, I especially like the interior. Those small details like the portraits are really nice, and they've recreated some of the scenes with the bomb-making area and the main room. Minorish complaint, though, I thought the Palantír was blue. And although the piece in The Wizard Battle isn't perfect, I would've preferred that in Orthanc. Oh well.
  20. Hey everyone, it's Orthanc! http://www.fbtb.net/2013/04/26/official-unveiling-of-10237-tower-of-orthanc/ (Via FBTB.) Yay, new Saruman! Yay, Grima Wormtongue! Yay, Eagle! Yay, minifigs!
  21. Here are the helmets. On the right is another helmet that might work. It doesn't really resemble anything in particular, but you could use it for added variety. There's also a speckled black-silver breastplate that could go with the helmet in the middle.
  22. I agree. Unfortunately, Orcs are a diverse lot and there are many different helmet types seen in the films. Maybe it's just me, but I've never seen any Orcs actually wearing the helmets Frodo and Sam have. I'm guessing you're referring to the helmet that looks like a dome with two eye slits. That would work well, it's plain and not too intricate. That's this one. It actually looks a bit like the Uruk-hai helmet minus the crest, so maybe that's why we're getting that instead in the Black Gate set. Another which would work well is the spiked Moria Orc helmet, because even though it's a very specific design, we see it in large numbers. The chance to use it has passed, but who knows...
  23. And the new variants (Gandalf and Aragorn) are also available in their standard outfits. Hmm, that's an interesting idea because the Fellowship does split up, so it wouldn't be hard to have half of the Fellowship in this wave, and the other half in the next. Merry and Pippin, for example, could both be in a Treebeard set. Or they could be in Minas Tirith/Pelennor Fields sets. In both cases, the other members of the Fellowship aren't necessarily present and wouldn't need to be rereleased. The Hobbit is a bit of a different matter, I think. Nine characters is reasonable but thirteen is pushing it, even if they're spread over two waves.
  24. Hmm. Okay, I can finally see the logic behind including only one tower, but it'd still be nice if they included both since it already looks reasonably scaled. Arghh, I may actually have to get two of these just for the sake of completion. Is anyone planning to do the two larger towers and the higher segments of the wall on the sides? The Black Gate still looks a bit off without those.
  25. Wait, what? Oh, come on... I don't own a Blu-Ray player. Besides, I'm waiting for when the extended edition box set inevitably comes out. I wonder if this is a deliberate move to sell more copies, since there probably are a number of people out there that are content to wait as well. If this is indeed exclusive then I'll be very sad. (By the way, I've never heard of "Ultraviolet" before. Huh.)
