Updated: [MOC/CUUSOO] Star Wars Combineable Battlepacks
Delta 38 replied to samiam391's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Actually, a better (and probably simpler) suggestion to replace my previous one... a Death Star hallway would also work as an alternative for Stormtrooper army-builders. It'd make more sense than adding onto the other set display-wise. -
Updated: [MOC/CUUSOO] Star Wars Combineable Battlepacks
Delta 38 replied to samiam391's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Ooh, nice. Combinable battlepacks is something that needs to happen, I think. Helm's Deep and the Uruk-hai Army add-on is proof that battlepacks can be part of a larger structure. This idea is great since it can be expanded infinitely, but maybe there should be an alternate side for those who want to army-build Stormtroopers (i.e. so on one side of the door is the Rebels' side, and one side of the door is the Imperials'). More variations of this idea would be nice. Perhaps some kind of Clone/Battle Droid setup would work, though I can't quite think of any interiors that'd be suitable for. -
Wow, that's great! The two halves contrast each other really well. Is that the Popemobile? Great work!

Thanks for the link to the voucher, I didn't get one in my email either. Potentially stupid question, was last year's Naboo Starfighter set (7877, not the small one) a Toyworld exclusive? I completely forgot about looking for it, since I don't live near any Toyworlds. -
That looks great! It looks like it extends far further back than it actually does, and the weathered look works well. Nice work.

Oh dear, quality control. This picture should speak for itself... This isn't really an issue with plastic, it's the printing in this case. Still, getting four misprinted figures in one set is rather unfortunate. Better pictures are on my Flickr of the individual figures. Edit: Merry and the Ringwraith have smudged printing. Frodo's face is offset and Aragorn has inverted colours.

Sheesh, the weather here in Sydney is horrible. I had to use public transport today, too. My local Myer only had a few of Helm's Deep, strangely enough. You'd think the small sets would come out first. -
Argh polybags. Maybe I'll actually have to buy multiples of the Uruk-hai one online... this seems like a pretty good offer (at least, until an Uruk-hai battle pack shows up). And yay, video game! I think they're actually using the voices from the films, which is great.

Ah, I see. I thought it was a bit strange, because I think there was a sale at Myer only a few days back which I missed. -

I just got that in the mail a minute ago. I haven't bought anything for months, so now is a good time. Is this "preview" a one-day sale, or is it an early release for Myer One members? I generally don't go to these things, so I don't know... -
Oh wow! That's actually much better than I expected. I didn't anticipate Anakin or the small ship thing, though the rest was pretty much a given. It's a shame they didn't do more, given all that open interior space, but at least they didn't cheap out on size, as I was half-expecting them to do.

That looks great! The windows are nice, I think I'd prefer them built rather than printed. Fittingly enough, I saw Titanic last week.

I think it looks more like a small MTT. I rather like the snow R2-D2 in the advent calendar. Is it just me, or does the Super Battle Droid look darker (almost looks black)? As for Pre Vizla's Fighter, it seems a decent set. More figures would have been nice though.

Ooh. No idea what it is, but it looks nice. Thanks for the picture.

Many times, I've seen company names or titles capitalised because their logo is. That's fine, but personally I prefer not capitalising Lego because people might mistake it for an acronym. I understand the logic, but it could be confusing. If it helps, at least I use "Lego" (by itself) solely to refer to the company.

Hmm, interesting points on grammar. I've never called them "Legos" intentionally. It's one of those things I'm seriously annoyed by. Even if it sounds pedantic, I will always add something (e.g. Lego sets) after that. Regarding some of the earlier arguments, e.g. tins and Google... Tins are "correct", though more in a slang sense. Not all cans are made of tin, and not all tin containers are cans, but they're often referred to as one or the other. As for Google being used as a verb, that's also somewhat correct. "Google" can't really be made into a verb otherwise, though again, just because someone "Googles" something, it doesn't mean they used Google to do so. I agree with the use of "Lego" over "Legos" due to it being a company title, rather than the name of the product. I found out recently that Cellophane is actually a registered trademark. Like many others, I assumed it was the name of the actual product due to the name becoming genericised and used everywhere. There's a similar problem with things like Spam (the food), Thermos flasks, Band-Aids and Aspirin. Lego is one of the things that really shouldn't be genericised (though it is, to an extent). We've got enough bootlegs as it is. On another note, I think the use of "Legos" sounds a bit... ignorant, especially when used in the media. Edit: did a quick bit of research, some of the above-mentioned brands are only trademarked in particular countries. The point still stands though, we wouldn't want Lego to become legally generic.

Well, I can understand the whole thing with minifigs and sets. If I'm neutral on the set itself, I'll opt for a cheaper alternative if the minifig appears in another set. Promo sets normally don't make it here, which is why I'm often irritated by minifigs only available in more expensive sets appearing in them. In this case though, I'll be picking up the Ghost Train. The promo ghost doesn't have legs (if that matters much), and it's a nicely-designed set anyway.

I did think it was a hoax at first, given the strange way this news surfaced. Seems that they're real though. It's a shame they aren't available elsewhere... I'm sure plenty of people would like a set, even if they're not in the UK.

Hmm, my computer monitor's colours are a bit off. I see it now. The Space Army figure is nice. Khaki looks fine, but maybe some green or something printed on the armour will improve the look. Red is fine, but plain khaki looks a bit odd.
-
Ooh, the sets look better out-of-box, I think. Maybe the greenish-purple background threw me off a bit before. The Hearse looks a lot nicer now. Yay, a coffin in a cheap set!

Modular Western project has reached 10K supporters on Cuusoo!
Delta 38 replied to just2good's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Yay! Nice to finally have a non-licensed theme achieve support. This legitimately deserves to be a set, because it's not just fans of a franchise voting on it (e.g. Minecraft), it's actually the design itself that's gotten it through. -
Thanks for the pictures! I agree, Gandalf looks strange. However, I think that's so his beard can work with a hairpiece. Hopefully we'll get future versions of him with his hair I think that's the most likely reason as to why it doesn't extend up to the hat.

Looking great so far. I understand why you'd want to include alien Space Marines, but if you add too many it might confuse things up a bit. Also, I think the red might be a bit much on the Ugokins. Red and green might not be the best colour combination. Visually, it'd be clearer to have to completely different colours fighting each other, but that's only my opinion.

Nice review. It's a nice set overall, and it's a bit bigger than I thought it would be. After seeing the movie, Black Widow looks very odd. Face aside, the blue highlights don't really fit, and I think they tried to put in too many details. Oh well.

Well, I've just come back from watching The Avengers. The sets, unfortunately, don't reflect the film as much as I had hoped. The only spoiler might be... ...but it's certainly not as bad as the spoilers in Toy Story 3.
