They are coming down in price. There is even one that can print carbon fiber in the works for $5000 US. There are companies that will print your design for you. You upload your file to them and you get your object printed in return. One of the guys in a local LUG made his own 3D printer. It's pretty cruel output but it might be good enough for train tracks.

Are Horizon Express power functions difficult?
dr_spock replied to gregrichards's topic in LEGO Train Tech
It is not hard to PF the Horizon Express. The instruction booklet shows you how to do it if I recall. You can order the parts online from LEGO Shop@Home (assuming S@H supports your country). If you have a local LEGO store, they can special order for you. -
A few train boogie plates.

It may be ok to design and 3D print your own LEGO tracks. Selling them may get the corporate lawyers on you if your designs are too similar to LEGO's IP and patents.

Nice. You could build a couple simple quick 60-70 stud flat cars and run them through your layout curves and switches to see if you have enough clearance get around. I think you're going to get some crazy overhangs in the tight curves.

Looks like the white base from the passenger train set. The CITY power boat transporter from 2011 had a dark grey train base.

I don't think there are many $100-$200 cameras with remote capability. Some models of Canon in that price range will support the firmware hack CHDK which allows USB remote control. (http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/CHDK) Canon DSLRs will support tethered shooting which can be really handy for workflow if your budget allows. I think Nikon 1 J1 has remote support and interchangeable lenses. It's $199 at B&H Photo.

It would be curious to see how the Intellectual Property plays out. It would be nice to print your own monorail tracks if LEGO don't plan to ever re-introduce them.

Combining the futuron monorail with a 7745 passenger train
dr_spock replied to AlmightyArjen's topic in LEGO Train Tech
You could try to brick build some spacey doors instead of using the regular train doors. Doors that pop out and open like jet plane doors. Or even gull wing doors that open upwards. -
Darn, off by one letter. Is ES44AH specific to CSX locomotive naming convention? Looks great with the darker yellow. Cool, you made it PF ready.

Looking good. I like your updates to the nose. I think you can get the train door windows in trans-black if you're looking for something less trans-clear.
