  1. When done correctly, playability makes sets more interesting. Take the deep freeze defender, imagine it without the transformation into multiple vehicles... flick-fires I think are usually ok, because they do not usually get in your way - You may just decide not to shoot them and they become decoration. It is a problem when launchers fall off or change the aesthetic of the set too much. The galactic enforcer, I think is more of a TFOL+ set than one for children. I don't think it would survive that well in a child's play room, really. I don't think its play features are negative, but I dislike the bulls eyes in the prison things. No, not the fact the prison pods can be shot at, but the fact that the space police for some reason put bulls eyes in their ship, that's horrid. I said it would have to be a base + capital ship because just a large ship may not work that wall (I mean, much larger than the enforcer). Buildings like the grand emporium don't need to be lifted. Boats like the imperial flag ship can stay in water/ground. But a good space ship deserves to be lifted and posed in a "flying" state. If it was very large, it would get hard to lift it... I think that if they want to call a set an AFOL set, it would have to be a base + capital ship, both with nice detais. And I would avoid it if it was not in minifig scale (plus it should bring its good share of minifigs and droids.). Very close to what we have seen with the galactic enforcer and the police base, but it would needs some more details, less details and less FOCUS on action features. It should have some nice action features, but they should not be the priority so it does not have aesthetic issues caused by the addition of an action feature...
  2. This week my first bl order arrived: Two of these fellows: Yesterday my brother and I went to the local resale fair and I found this guy: I love it, even though its mask has some scratches, though it turns out it is fairy inexpensive in bl.
  3. Note this is info from a German site that was originally in German.
  4. Ever since 2006, there are about two kinds of big parts in bionicle sets, the "torso" and probably the main armor. I think plenty of large armor pieces can be useful for decorating vehicles and other sci-fi stuff. The large torso pieces are probably only useful when you want to make a figure, but then again each set has at most one of them... The other things like extremities and such are very compatible with technic and system and they have been popping up in system sets for a while. The weapons are rather specific and annoying if you are not making something that would use weapons, but TLG use them in system sets as well for some reason...
  5. The Egyptian's leg printing seems way off. Fortunately that's apparently the only noticeable issue with them. Faces look around the good color.
  6. Design-wise? definitely. They are almost build-once things. The ultra super specialized pieces just work for one thing if any at all, and it is very hard to disarm them. Nothing when compared to their dragons though. I don't really think the heroes are any close to them though (luckily). In fact, even ben 10 sets do better. Edit: Not to get brand-defending... LEGO did a ton much worse with Galidor, hope we never go back to something like that again.
  7. hehe, according to wikipedia "The special was ranked at #3 in "The Five Goofiest Moments Of The Star Wars Mythos", in the 62nd issue of UK's Star Wars Magazine." There are 2 goofier moments? I am nto sure if I want to know about them...
  8. What if the gorilla is just a body guard! -- yay alien! Though I was hoping to get an Asimo look-alike, maybe in series 4. Edit: Or maybe that's what he wants you to think.
  9. I am surprised the brutaka swords actually look like a helix , though I guess the credit goes to the designer of the rotation thing and how (s)he placed the swords.
  10. I think the extra ball really sticks out. This is among the reasons I dislike those "all purposes" torsos that are not built up. If the piece had at least the same shape but a socket instead of the head ball joint so that it is add-able by another piece meltdown and thunder would be much better... Anyway, how many of those pin pieces are there, and where are they used? I think meltdown looks great and has good pieces. Is the volume of the box smaller or larger than the glatorian canisters? Although it is tall, I think it is thiner. This is important because on international markets the price increases as the size of the box increases... I just hope that in the last wave of HF they do something about the torsos. They are ok for "impulse" sets but for 13 dollar things we need a new torso build.
  11. Remove the extra http:// Edit: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=438558 The karate guy has two trophies? I wonder if it is supposed to have two trophies or if the owner got lucky.
  12. So far based only on pictures. Heroes: Bulk. Small Villains: Meltdown. Overall: Rotor.
  13. Though in this review's pics, silver does look different to me. It may be the lighting though.
  14. Different pieces do not a different build make. The toa mata did not have the same build.
  15. Only two things in my checklist now: [ ] Become a millionaire. [ ] Move to Australia.
  16. I think it is fine as a set, I would love to get it as my first AT&T, but at that price tag I would have to choose between it and the galactic enforcer I've been saving for to get on christmas, and I am more of a LEGO space fan than a starwars fan... Also, although C3PO is quite of a random choice, this makes the set a good start for a collection, Han, Luke, C3PO , snow troopers and an AT&T is there anything else you can ask?
  17. I say good riddance actually. But mostly because dark blue and green plastic are awful in comparison with the other blue and green. Hard to explain but it feels cheaper. In fact, I think those are precisely the metru colors we are not seeing anymore. The other metru colors are nice and specially keetorange and sand green very interesting, my best hope is HF would pick a completely different palette that has all 4 "primary" colors (red, yellow, blue, green) and the nicer colors and perhaps new colors. I actually think it would have been awesome if we had characters in purple and that tone of green that used to be in technic sets until the tarakava and then went completely extinct.
  18. You can put a mask an axle to connect it to the head's top instead of the mouth, it will still be a mask. Bulk I think might be the only non-rookie I'll get, the hollow piece is not noticeable and his look is fairy unique among heroes. Yeah, silver kind of became a cliche thanks to bionicle but the trans red-silver combination is nice for something evil imho.
  19. Are you sure the famous builder and the person who posted are different people?
  20. Just found some rotor pics on brickshelf: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=438200
  21. I think "battle packs" were around since long ago. At least I can tell I've seen space sets with only 5 minifigs ever since futuron days.
  22. Yay! that and vapour are the villains that appeal the most to me, except vapour's set is probably going to be horribly expensive so really looking forward to meltdown's review.
  23. Does anyone know about the success these sets have had so far? My retailers won't have 2010 sets in a while, so I'd like to know were able to sell or if they became shelf warmers in the first world. I am suspecting it didn't go that well, because apparently Bandai got the license to make ben 10 toys that are basically the same thing (using a lame chamber thing but the aliens are buildable and parts interchangeable), except that with a lot more aliens. So I wouldn't know why would kids get the LEGO ones when they can just get two bandai ones for less than the price of a single one. I mean: http://www.amazon.com/Ben-10-Alien-Creation-Chamber/dp/B0018MLZLW and http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/images/B001G119YI/ref=dp_image_0?ie=UTF8&n=165793011&s=toys-and-games . I despise the theme but it seemed like a good source of certain new molds. Many people hate that the legs were used in HF villain sets but I actually think they are sort of fine as parts, they don't have less insertion points than the nuva legs...
  24. I think that stories like bionicle are better off if they finish soon. The addition of sets every year really forced the addition of new characters and character representations in a way that the story really risked getting bloated (I personally think it happened about 3 years ago). The story is continuing but without the need to add characters and events just for the sake of sets, it will receive a healthier end this way. It had to end some time. PS: I am not sure how many kids really cared for the story.
