Review: 2257 Spinjitzu Starter Set
vexorian replied to tin7_creations's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
So, 25 Cad for two minifigs and TLG still had to use Chinese plastic? The price for this thing is just too high, I am not sure TLG are in their sane mind with this. Considering how ninjago is a new thing and all this aggressive pricing will just ensure children stick to one of the 40 alternatives instead of trying them. I can already picture these sets 80% off in the future. I am also disappointed by the skeleton's arms and how the legs are a single piece. It is also terrible that the mechanism (or lack of) is so poor. Specially considering all that LEGO needed to use was one of the racers pull back pieces and some technic gears :( I hope the sets turn out better. -
It seems the UFOs are going to put a certain 1997 theme to shame. Plus you wonder why didn't those UFO have at least one tripod. Too bad the only tripod is from a rather large box. I just hope this theme arrives to town, 2010's SP3 police didn't and I guess that's because they'd rather sell the over expensive SW sets >( The minifigs are a low point in this theme in my opinion, the aliens look sillier than usual and the defenders don't look like would defend anything, I guess it is because of the known effects that tone of blue has on people... I think I'll stick to the alien sets this time.

I was doing christmas shopping yesterday and today and noticed a pattern of Von Nebula not being in any of the shelves he used to be. So, we decided to go to the last store we knew that had Von Nebula and it seems I picked the last one in town.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 4 discussion

Blind packaging. -- The thing is that some of us actually do want to get them all. Also, with so many figs per series, the theme will burn out soon whereas it would be optimal to have it last indefinitely... Hi numbers also increase the chance of getting filler minifigs. -
OT: Do you remember what the space ship in the left page of the first pic is? Did you see anything about a space theme?
-
The thing is that for TLG, trying something new translates into risks of losing millions. They did try other roles in the past. I don't remember situations in the comics in which the female figs from post-classic space were damsels in distress, and I think that the whole thing has been getting worse in the recent themes. So, one could speculate, why would TLG stop trying those new things? I think that overall the reason is that parents are still full of prejudice, with most parents not stopping to consider that LEGO would be a good toy for their daughters (thus making the sets more appealing to girls not profitable) and boys getting raised with values that make them disdain female dolls in their toys. This makes sets/themes that are intended to appeal both boys and girls become market bombs. The girls' parents don't buy them and the boy's don't want them...

It may have something to do with me being semi-color blind and that the helmet itself is blue. We shall see.

Pretty sure space police just put the stop lights and signs on space just so that they can capture orange aliens. I mean, it is space! You are either traveling in hyperspace and thus breaking the light speed limit or you are stationary waiting for hyperspace to become available. For some reason I think the visor might be trans light blue.

Most of the recent themes feature humans fighting versus different species that are supposed to be evil, as a pattern, there are no villain humans or good non-humans in these themes. The power miners are probably invading and destroying the rock monster's home but they are the good guys. The divers in atlantis seem to be treasure scavengers that the sea people are trying to defend against. The space police seems to like species profiling. For example, in the case of freeze ray frenzy, there is no indication Kranx did anything wrong, besides being orange, that is. In the pre-kingdoms castle waves, it is humans vs. trolls, at least trolls have affiliation with undead so maybe this time they really are evil. Pharaoh's quest also features undead enemies, so maybe they really are evil, or is this my own prejudice against undead that is showing?

Things that changed Lego forever

The whole point of yellow skin is to make minifigs race less and not be alike any of the normal skin tones not to give a bias. If LEGO switched to fleshies in all themes I would just stop buying any set with minifigs. I already avoid any set that contains fleshies not to increase their sales. For licensed sets I guess it kinda makes sense to have fleshies (it does not stop me from avoiding those sets like the plague though), but for normal themes, forcing a race into them would just make everything worse and kind of make LEGO figs less universal and appealing and it would suck. As for all the race-less colors you could pick, I think yellow is by far the best. Compare with cobi's gray minifigs and it is pretty clear why yellow is superior. I think orange would be too close to human skin and the other tones are either too dark or too pale. Yellow is great. -

They should just move to 8 figs per series, really. -

I really agree with the chrome change. Restricting it to collector items makes sense when you consider that the slightest usage of chrome pieces makes the chrome fall off. Becomes clear with chrome swords, just change the sword's owner periodically, and you'll see what happens to the handle... -
I think he may be correct, but there is no evidence for that, as you mentioned, there are precedents in collectible mini figs that look like these and it would not be the first time a collectable minifigs series has something very similar to a past one.

We are yet to have a confirmation that they are the same as the ones in that rumored battle pack.

I don't mind pupils, as in at all. I don't even think they are incompatible with old minifigs. I've seen pupil figs next to the old ones and they don't look out of place. What is starting to bug me are teeth. Yeah, that's right, teeth. It is mostly because in collectable minifigs they are seriously overusing teeth. And the largest problem is that people don't stay teeth-smiling all day long. A happy face makes more sense for something that is permanent. For example, the Space man's grin looks out of place when doing common activities like turning a engine off... But what has really hurt my sensibilities is the mime's smiling face. The mime minifig is perfect in all senses except that its happier expression overuses teeth. Google for happy mime and you will rarely find images of mimes showing teeth. This is the reason my mime has stayed with a sad face for long. If you compare the sad face with the grinning face, the sad face actually looks like a mime. The grinning face is more useful for a Joker's clone... Oh, and death to the fleshies! Besides of the fleshies and the overuse of teeth I think the other changes mentioned in the thread are positive. The new studless technic bricks are a lot more flexible if you will and the generic happy face gets old after the 10th or 15th fig you get with that face. -
Here's me hoping they belong to Collectable Minifigs series 5, because it does not look promising as a theme. (unless the spacemen somehow manage to incorporate many classic elements, which is a possibility seeing the suit he is wearing)

A police state sounds hard when you consider that the cops have NO GUNS! So, my theory is that in fact, the laws in LEGO city prohibit cops from using guns. The reason there are so many police men is that tons and tons of meat shields to deal with actually-armed thugs.

Does that mean the skeleton hands are articulated? (Sorry, my minds keep making me think there is a division between the hand and the wrist)

hmnn I was expecting it to be a series 3 gorilla, but that thing is terrifying in that context. Reminds me of the creatures in brick testament.
-
The piano strikes me as an AFOL's MoC they CNPed into the catalog... I mean, I think I've seen it before. Enlightement is on the lower quality spectrum among bootlegs. So much that you shouldn't even expect the color to match that CGI pic's.

The earth Dragon seems to lack printing or something in those green wing pieces.

Everyone can correct wikipedia as well. Which gives it more control than any other encyclopedia, just don't use it for news... -
How much are bricks worth per pound?
vexorian replied to Dan the Brickman's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
You are comparing the price of new LEGO pieces in MISB sets with the price of a unsorted bulk of used LEGO. The sets may or may not be complete, etc. I think 500 may be a little expensive actually. Depends really on how easy is it to look that the pieces in the bulk are cool and that there are minifigs. Try to offer 300, really. -
I think the combiners are just cool. Though I wonder if they somehow fix the back issue. I currently think I will only buy two Evos from the 2.0 heroes, and make a combiner with them both, since it seems that the combiners don't really need the other hero's specific parts since they are all the same anyway. ... Except that I find green and white to be an odd combination. Breeze could have worked better with Evo or Surge as combiner, I think.
