Review Review: 70816 Benny's Spaceship, Spaceship, SPACESHIP!
AFOLguy1970 replied to Rufus's topic in Special LEGO Themes
You could practice this with the edges of the sticker sheet or the areas around the stickers. That way, you could do a "dry run" and make sure you have a good feel for it before trying the real stickers. Might have to try this myself when the set gets in. Thanks Naf for the advice!- 228 replies

Review Review: 70816 Benny's Spaceship, Spaceship, SPACESHIP!
AFOLguy1970 replied to Rufus's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Addressing the question if Classic Space should be reissued in some way, there could be an easy fix to this, although Lego will probably not go along with it. (1) Offer minifig packs with the spacemen in the red, white, blue, and yellow patterns. This would be similar to battle packs. They would probably sell incredibly well. (2) Offer certain parts available on online PAB. I am thinking of the blue windscreen with the printed logo, transparent yellow windscreens, trans yellow plates, and certain other pieces which are no longer made, but would be crucial to either reproducing classic space ships or creating new CS MOCs. (3) Offer a Creator Classic Space set with many of the iconic parts, the logo, and a spaceman or two. The set would have instructions for three varieties. Of course, the more modern technology such as SNOT bricks and such could be used.- 228 replies

The LEGO Movie Sets News and Discussion
AFOLguy1970 replied to Itaria No Shintaku's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Ordered mine as well. While I do not think Benny's SSS will go the way of the Mars Curiosity Rover, it might be similar to Cloud Cuckoo Palace, where it goes out of stock quickly and is very hard to find on retail shelves for awhile. It will replenish, but one may have to wait a while before they can get one. Although, the $100 price point will be somewhat of a roadblock to the younger crowd.- 2,626 replies

Some of them also go to Toys R Us the very first day the set appears, which is often a couple of weeks ahead of the Lego Store/S@H release date. They go home, build it right away, and make the video as quickly as they can.

Looks like a good set. The only change I would make is to add three coin pieces to have in the fountain.

MOC - Twin Towers World Trade Centre
AFOLguy1970 replied to Hickernator's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I hope your project is successful. My wife has actually been up on the observation deck and has some memory of it up close and personal. This summer, I plan on visiting the 911 memorial. Perhaps your completed model could someday grace the site? If LDD goes slow on you, my suggestion would be to break it up into multiple sections kind of like a stackable modular. There is a MOC I am working on that required it, and it probably is nowhere the size and number of parts compared to your design. -

It's a polybag known as the Balloon Cart. It is available in the US in June for online purchases over $75. It looks interesting enough, thus the willing to wait just a little longer for the spaceship.- 228 replies

Review Review: 70816 Benny's Spaceship, Spaceship, SPACESHIP!
AFOLguy1970 replied to Rufus's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I will agree with you on two points: (1) I am not excited about the stickers. Reports are also coming in that they are hard to place and even harder to fix if you have already placed them. Hopefully this will not be Mines of Moria all over again. (2) You are not alone in regards to Benny. Yes, I realize his helmet is broken and his logo is faded in the movie, but it does not make him aesthetically pleasing to me in the set. It would have been nice if they had given us an alternate torso and helmet so that one may choose to "opt out" of the high mileage Benny. With that said, I think the ship looks really nice. It combines Classic Space with the new creativity of today's world of Lego. A little bit of patience will be required on my part in order to wait for midnight May 31 to order it online and get the balloon thing as well. If Lego really wanted to make some money, they could get some trans yellow pieces and possibly something with the Classic Space logo in the online PAB section.- 228 replies

Looks like a nice set, although I may have to wait a bit. With vacations coming and money already saved for Benny's Spaceship, the funds are lacking to get both when June arrives. The design and thought behind the car is amazing. Would have liked to have a Slimer, but I guess the Lord of the Rings Army of the Dead and the Necromancer from the Hobbit can be staged as the adversaries. The printed parts are appreciated, especially those with the logo.

Review Review: 70816 Benny's Spaceship, Spaceship, SPACESHIP!
AFOLguy1970 replied to Rufus's topic in Special LEGO Themes
That was a good moment in the movie. -----potential spoilers ahead------- I found it a bit ironic that the Man Upstairs did not appear to be moved by the spaceship, because he would have been a kid around the time of Classic Space. Certainly, that would have brought back some good memories. I would be ecstatic if my kids could produce something like Benny's ship. This set is certainly special, because it has a potential to be a bridge between many AFOLs and their kids. My Classic Space sets are long gone to a garage sale, but perhaps this could help restore the memory in addition to being fun for the next generation. Funny for me, June 1 is my 44th birthday, and I will be ordering it right on that day.- 228 replies

Winter Village Sets - Rumours and Discussion
AFOLguy1970 replied to Gearslover01's topic in LEGO Town
A bear and a large eagle have appeared in limited sets. Even Smaug the dragon in the Hobbit sets is going to be a large unique molded creature which will ever appear in one set. They could make a basic deer or stag and use it in various sets. Creator has produced some outdoor themed sets and City had a Forest series. The Santa mold seems to be a mainstay, and the elf molds are being reused from the collectible minifigure line. Surely, the deer mold could be used time to time in WV, holiday polybags, and even the City Advent Calendar. I must admit, upon hearing that this set would be made, my first thought was the hope there would be molded reindeer, because I would like to make a sleigh with 8 reindeer setup that would go on the mantle at Christmas. Oh well..... -
At this point, the likelihood of experiencing burnout is small. Most of the time is spent waiting for parts/sets or waiting for money to buy parts/sets.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
AFOLguy1970 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I do not think Lego necessarily has to make the building have too many play features. After all, the Modular Line is mainly for those who are hoping to display rather than play with the sets. Parisian Restaurant seems to be doing well, and it surely has very little in the sense of play as a child would know it. A library might not be popular with kids, but if it were presented well, it would probably be very popular. I also agree with others that a museum would be a pleasant surprise. As for a police station, I am not against it as long as it is not modern City architecture as we know it. The funny thing about the Post Office. It could have play features. This would certainly require a vehicle. The interior could also have a room where a conveyer belt feature could be used to move the letters and packages from one place to another. It has the potential to be more interesting than some might expect. -
I would imagine that the Downtown Disney Lego Store in Orlando would love to display something like this. Good work!

It's all about Benny, although the balloon cart will be nice too. Probably a midnight purchase on May 31.

Who have you banned from looking at/touching/playing with your LEGO
AFOLguy1970 replied to legoman19892's topic in Community
Funny you mention that. I bought Shelob for the the 7 year old (who was 6 at the time). Most of the pieces are gone. He also managed to separate the black hinges that connect the legs to the body. Some of them snapped and broke when he did that. I have Orthanc so high up right now that it almost touches the ceiling.- 64 replies

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
AFOLguy1970 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Would love to see a tram or streetcar. A San Francisco cable car would be awesome. However, with the Parisian Restaurant, I would assume the bench is for a bus stop. I never saw any streetcars or trams in Paris, but bus traffic, intra/inter city trains, and of course the Metro was common. -
The Forest Police Station has one as well.

MOCs, how much do they end up costing?
AFOLguy1970 replied to psdillon's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I am currently working on a MOC which is estimated to fall a little short of 10,000 parts. It has a lot of windows, panes, and multitude of other parts. The PAB wall has helped out to some degree, and the balance is purchased through Bricklink and sometimes online PAB. I have not really kept a running total, but it is certainly in the hundreds so far with around 4000 parts. I designed the building in LDD and it is modeled after a real building. Most of the parts are common, however sometimes some of them are hard to come by in the US. One particular part has been giving me trouble, because it is only in high quantities in Europe. That means high exchange rates, longer shipping times, Paypal fees, and higher shipping costs. I ordered a large shipment of these bricks on March 12 and have yet to see the shipment. Yeah, it is probably lost. Now, I have to reorder them in addition to other lost parts from the shipment at a much higher cost. This setback and the fact that no one seller has everything you need causes me to spend a lot of money on shipping due to the multiple sources. After this MOC is completed, I think I am going to cut back on Lego spending a bit and start saving up for travel. -
GG will be quite expensive since it is no longer produced. I really like PR due to the details.

I have seen it say "Picked up in Strykow", and three weeks later get the shipment without any other update. I live in TX, and it it usually takes 3 weeks. You are pretty close to that time, therefore I would not worry just yet. If it goes into May without seeing the shipment or at least getting an update on the tracker, then I would give them a call.

What Marvel/DC Characters Will NEVER Get Minifigures?
AFOLguy1970 replied to Suspsy's topic in LEGO Licensed
Sadly for AFOLs who can remember Saturday morning cartoons, Zan and Jayna (the Wonder Twins) are not likely to make an appearance. Too bad, because we could get a lot of new water pieces and animal molds.
