Not only that, but customs can be very erratic. I have sometimes waited two months for something to get here from overseas due to it being stuck in US customs.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
AFOLguy1970 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
And if they rerelease Cafe Corner with an interior and mods, it will have to be considerably more expensive than the going rate for today's modulars. Think Town Hall pricing for a smaller building. -
City is certainly part of the backbone of Lego. While at times there does seem to be a saturation of police sets among others, there have been some new innovations in this line as of late. Even enough to get me to buy a couple of city sets despite the fact that modulars are my current favorites. The Fun in the _____ people packs have been very useful, the trains are nice, and the themed sets like jungle, volcano, and mountain can be interesting. I will probably never buy a generic city police station due to the blandness, but there have been some other sets like Mountain Police Headquarters that have drawn my attention enough to be interested. City is probably not going anywhere anytime soon, but that is fine with me. It is a good source for minifigs, trains, and vehicles to help populate a town setup.

Anyone who grew up in the 80s and enjoys the Speed Champions line would love to see a Lamborghini Countach. That and the Pontiac Firebird were well known during those years, of course with thanks to the Cannonball Run and Smokey and the Bandit movies. I am utterly convinced that either of these two would fly off the shelves if they were produced, especially if they looked good without the racing stickers, because I suspect a lot of people would want the street versions.

No need to feel bad about purchasing Lego if you enjoy it. Pay no attention to the age labels on those boxes either. Mountain Police Station says ages 6-12 on the online site. Guess that makes me a very old 12. Right now, I have limited shelf space which is holding a Downtown Diner, a Pickup and Caravan, the Mountain Police Station, the Unexpected Gathering, the Galaxy Explorer ship and landing pad (the rest is boxed up), a MOC of Christine the car from Stephen King, and a MOC of one of the Texas county courthouses. The other sets are all in plastic bins completely bagged up. My hope is to eventually move into a house which has space for a Lego room, at which point I will build my town and display most of the stuff just waiting to be rebuilt. There are no plans to take apart the MOCs, the Galaxy Explorer, or the Unexpected Gathering. Everything else gets rotated in and out as I buy new sets.

I am definitely interested in the Mustang, but like others, will probably not apply much, if anything, in the way of stickers. I would rather have something like a Steve McQueen Bullitt car more than a race car when it comes to this.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
AFOLguy1970 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I never really got around to getting those nice 3 in 1 Creator builds with the exception of the Lakeside Lodge. The smaller Creator sets can be useful in a town setup, and I do not mind the open backs so much. I just bought the Mountain Police Headquarters because (a) I have yet to buy a police set of any kind for my eventual layout (b) I love the outdoors, and a set that appears to meld into a hillside is interesting, and (c) a mountain lion is one of my favorite wild animals--just hope I never stumble on one when solo hiking. It took a while, but I finally got around to supplementing a town with Creator and City sets. I also agree that the latest Creator sets leave much to be desired and seem to be more aimed at the younger crowd--looking at you, skate ramp house! Also hoping that the pastry house and/or the sweet surprise might be something that can incorporated into a display. If not, at least I have a modular MOC to work on. -
This is very unique and impressive.....a great idea!

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
AFOLguy1970 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Funny thing is that the one I am designing is a corner building. I think I found a way to make one using just that space and the parts count should come in between 2000-3000 parts. The rooms will all be different in some way to avoid the repetitiveness that many hotels have. Another way to save on space would be not to have a full bathroom in each room. I will have something in each, but not necessary a bathtub, toilet, and sink in every room for example. They will all have at least one bed. It will be similar to most other modulars in the sense that things like toilets are few and far between, although there will be one somewhere in the hotel. One could also take the "shared bathroom" approach that is found in many European hotels. That could also help free up some space. Still playing with LDD and once I have that finalized, I will start the long process of saving money and making Bricklink orders. My first completed MOC was actually a courthouse based on one of the counties in Central Texas. This will hopefully be my second building. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
AFOLguy1970 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Definitely do not think it will be Art Deco as they do not repeat the same design from the previous year in the new modular. As for the hotel, it would be nice, but there are some challenges. I am trying to MOC one right now. Of course, you would want a lobby and check in desk at a minimum. Then, you have to squeeze in the guest rooms above that. You also need a way to access the upper level(s) and have a hallway/passage or some way to get to each room, and that will take up valuable space. If you want more guest rooms, they have to be fairly small. 32x32 is not much space when you really think about it. If a hotel gets developed, it will be more of a bed and breakfast with a few rooms than it will be a grand hotel. -
No problem. All Lego prisons have a breakaway wall of some sort. I would not use any of the "illegal" techniques only because my bricks are apparently threatened by climate, ziploc bag plastic reactions, and the occasional light that shines on them.

Fantastic inside and out! Love the details like the cobblestones, windows, Delft blue tiles, and the bar itself.

I remember that castle. The minifigures were great as were the accessories and horses. The problem was that the castle itself looked like an oversized junior set. There was quite a bit of blue mixed in with the grey that made it unrealistic. I really wanted to like it, but just could not bring myself to buy it. Ended up getting Dragon Mountain instead along with one of the battle packs. The nice thing about castles is that they are relatively easy to MOC if you have a lot of grey parts.

What Causes Lego Bricks to Deteriorate?
AFOLguy1970 replied to Bricked1980's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I have a MOC which uses a lot of those white flag parts. Over a few years of having the MOC, I have had a terrible time with this part. Several of the flags became brittle and broke. The MOC is kept at room temperature in a room which does not receive any direct sunlight. In fact, most of the parts were in the MOC's interior and were not even handled. They might have been stressed from being connected to other parts, but I thought that was what they were designed for. As for the plastic bags, I will have to study this more since most of my collection has to remain in storage. There just simply is not enough room to build and display my sets. I definitely need some type of safe long term storage.- 25 replies

Those colors work really well! I like all of the telescopes as well. After all, the great Galileo Galilei was from Tuscany. Fabulous MOC.

If it is a $400 roller coaster, I sure hope most of the build is devoted to the tracks and the planks supporting them. Other than the inclines and turns, I would not mind a loading area for the car, but that is it. A classic amusement roller coaster would be great. Just glad to hear that the pirate coaster is not "the" roller coaster we have been waiting for as the orientation of it reminds me of Joker Manor with just enough track to make a loop and have a small drop or two.

Excellent scene recalling some very important discoveries! The lab looks realistic. Also enjoy the "Easter Eggs" of the two radioactive elements on the periodic table.

LEGO Nexo Knights 2018
AFOLguy1970 replied to Peppermint_M's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
This. A castle theme could work if you had a fantasy/mythological twist to it. If you take a purely Middle Ages approach, then you get about the same results that the last Castle line attempt had, and that is not good. Dragons are very popular as are other creatures. I know I am not the target audience, but with that said, Nexo Knights did not really appeal to my kids nor their friends either. They are more into City/Star Wars/Ninjago, and just designing their own stuff. When you can walk into a Lego aisle the week before Christmas and half of the sets on the shelves are literally Nexo Knights, that might be a clue that they are not overly popular with any group. Probably the best hope AFOLS could have would be to see sets that have the things that appeal to kids (cool minifig characters, creatures, play features, storyline, etc) but have something in the builds which has things we would like too, like the classic castle architectural elements. I would hope for a bit of realism like they did with Helms Deep and avoid primary colors for castles, battlements, and other things.- 1,601 replies

It works great as a standalone. The one bad side has been eliminated with the mirror building on all three levels. Now that there is ample parking available, it makes much more sense to have servers on skates and limited booth seating. It can truly function as a drive in diner as well with your setup.

Not surprised here except maybe the fact that they can already confirm a green light for at least one project in the next batch. Of course, I am assuming the frontrunner is the pop up book. Greenlighting it now gives the team a chance to test structural integrity and perhaps tweek the various storyline(s) that would go with it. Pop up book is definitely the labyrinth of this round.

Brownstone Street is amazing! It looks like it took a lot of time to get those many buildings in with that much detail. I especially like the effect with the lights. Also, the reflection on the street gives the appearance that it just rained. It creates an interesting mood for the photo.

This is really nice. In some ways it reminds me of the Phoenix from Battle of the Planets.

Rounding the upper floors has definitely improved the design. Now, it really looks like it belongs in Miami Beach! The ninja addition is fun as well.

Looks good! Only minor change I would make is to remove one of the two jukeboxes, probably the one that is endcapping two of the booths. Maybe even move it up to the recording studio.
