  1. this is currently for sale, in Queensland, Australia... http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/LEGO-P-H-2300-electric-rope-shovel-showpiece-display-mining-/262408094537?hash=item3d18bdc349:g:jTYAAOSwHPlWgImW reasonably large...
  2. Philo! about time for you to do another new GBC - since you are practically a founding father of the 'movement' :)
  3. this is one thing they don't tell you about running a GBC layout for a whole weekend - the amount of babysitting you have to do with all the modules - you eventually get to know all their quirks - even other peoples' ones, and learn how to fix them I often comment to a lot of other exhibitors - "you guys have it easy... you build a Lego city, and then it just sits there all weekend - our Lego creations are constantly trying to destroy themselves' RB
  4. Looking good!! some familiar looking GBC's up on the shelf! and is that a Trintron screen you still have??
  5. that's not a truck! that's a spaceship! wrong forum!! ;)
  6. at the moment - I don't... although so far, it's mainly pins and axles I have excess of.. however I really need to have a system - as I thought I'd used all my 3l axle with stud.... and was about to add it to my BL wanted list... when I found my other stash!!
  7. great topic! I've recently sorted 95% of my collection, and have not yet sat down to do labels.. so I might give these a try. I mix pins together (since it's easy to pick the colours - friction/nofriction), and my drawers have internal dividers, so that I might have 2-3 types of part (esp for small quantities), in the same drawer the hardest thing with a big (and growing) collection, is when you have to re-sort, due to too many pieces of a type... I either resort to 'overflow' bags that are archived in tubs.. or use 2 drawers for the same type of piece. I have about 14 GBC's made up, and a few regular models on shelf... so I don't think I'll ever have 'the whole lot' in pieces..
  8. why not just have the suspension springs in 'for looks'... have them in place, but non functional, so that it adds a nice detail for anyone looking under the wheel arches :)
  9. decided to do one of the smaller/easier modules over the last 2 nights Needs a little bit of tweaking - I'm thinking of altering the scoop arm hand a bit, so the sides are all 3l thin liftarms, so the sides are smoother - seems to get snagged on the pin hole a bit.. it's quite quick in one of the motions.. not sure if it's my valves, or cylinders and only 1 minor error in the instructions that I could see :) I thought there was a major error early on.. but I'd just used the wrong size thick liftarm! and I think I'll extend the support frame a bit.. just to make it a bit more solid - or just attach it to a baseplate..
  10. I reckon it's designed to be used with bricks like this: http://alpha.bricklink.com/pages/clone/catalogitem.page?P=7049b&idColor=11#T=C&C=11 or the older motors, in which you inserted the old wheels, with the metal axles http://alpha.bricklink.com/pages/clone/catalogitem.page?P=7039&idColor=5#T=C&C=5 effectively converting the metal axle (which was inserted with friction), to a technic cross axle the thin end of the axle will probably be around 2mm or so.. I can measure one when I get him, with some digital calipers.. unless someone beats me :)
  11. I had a very similar feeling a few years ago... grew up on regular system lego.. got back into Lego a decade ago... pretty much only bought technic sets for years.... and then I went back and got some decent Creator set, and it was a real joy to go back to bricks, after working with pins and liftarms for so long!
  12. yeah.. I got 8475 for the secondary output.... but I never use it :)
  13. What about Hot Flame? - http://brickset.com/sets/8376-1/Hot-Flame-RC-Car I have 2 HotFlames, and one 8475... and Hotflame is sometimes more fun to play with, as it comes with hard-plastic 'drifting' wheels.. as well as the ability to pop wheelies... Be aware, that even in mint condition, the old 9V wires may be in poor condition - the plastic coating breaks down after many years
  14. you need a 'series of tubes' to pass balls between each display case... an... 'internet of balls' ;)
  15. oh...but this is where I think you're wrong! I'd be fascinated to watch a timelapse of you building something... it'd give Sariel, and the others a run for their money! ;) I built this Heli last year, and very much enjoyed it.. and only just last week - finally built the white cargo plane - also an interesting build... and LOTS of fun for kids to play with! do you have any custom tools to assist you?
  16. have you posted a picture, or video of yourself building a few steps at all? I'm amazed at what you do, but at times, it's still hard to fathom HOW you do it! :)
  17. they sometimes do... in a way... often you'll see 'internals' of a creator/system build using different colours, to ensure you build preceding steps in the right place even the Back to the Future Ideas car does this - it has red/blue bricks, in early stages of the build, that assist you when building, and eventually get covered up
  18. Erik: Whoa! been saving up all these gripes for a while? ;) I personally think the alternating black/lightgrey for even/odd axles was good enough... obviously the general population STILL has trouble with it, thus, them introducing new colours... but I do agree.. it would be nice for them to 'fill in the missings' with stop axles, and other parts...
  19. I guess my line of thinking is: keep the instructions as-is for paper based ones... but offer an online 'hard' version, for those who like an extra challenge I already build-without-instructions, with small sets, like mini creator/mixel sets! ;) it's quite fun to see if you can figure it out....
  20. Isogawa's books (and the free ideas on his website) are GREAT starter to all sorts of mechanisms, and building techniques. If you (and he) work through all the mechanisms in his books, you'll both get a very solid grounding in modern, studless building. And yes.. modern technic is quite different from old.. Although I've learnt a lot in the last few years.. sometimes I find it's still faster to prototype things in the old studded system bricks.. and sometimes (if you have a lot of regular lego) it's good fun to motorise/integrate with regular sets - try to make your own fairground ride / ferris wheel or something for minifigs My son is 6, and has played with my Lego, and Technic for 3-4 years now... he'll often go into my (nicely sorted!) parts bins, and come up with some little contraption... the other day, it was almost a scissor lift, that he made with liftarms! He loves stringing a few gears together, and see how fast he can get a propellor to spin, and make a breeze..
  21. We all know they read this forum - and I bet they've all read this thread.. ;) Must be SO hard working for the company, and not be able to comment publicly on some topics... I'm sure they all passed around some of the amazing builds in here, or also.. laughed at some of the silly questions/topics my only wish is for you guys to publish 'advanced' instructions as PDF, or 3D Building Instructions.. for those that enjoy a challenge - minimum 20 pieces per step... and things like 'build a mirror image of this assembly', rather than have everything super simple
  22. I was very fortunate to get the edition with Chrome Taps :)
  23. being from Australia - I always build every Technic car with right hand drive... just have to scan through the instructions, to start figuring out how early you have to start making changes.. for the 8880, it's VERY early, as you have to flip the front diff.. and the back one, as they are well-built/packed in.. and if you forget.. then some of the steering mechanism fouls the high side of the Diff.. and by then, it's very hard to pull apart! But most other sets are pretty easy...
  24. Wheel Hub, Gearbox shifter, and mounting plate on 8880 (unique to that set) http://alpha.brickli...Color=9#T=C&C=9 http://alpha.brickli...lor=11#T=C&C=11 http://alpha.brickli...Color=1#T=C&C=1 Front steering mounts on 8448 Super Street Sensation (unique to that set) http://alpha.brickli...Color=9#T=C&C=9 Also.. that shock absorber did appear in 4 sets: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemIn.asp?P=48912c01&in=S
  25. Here - I made a Brickset Query: Tiny Technic Sets under 200 Parts: http://brickset.com/sets/query-2906 I initially had 300 parts, but it's funny how many old classic sets fit in this!!! I can't believe my childhood favourite universal sets - 8030, and 8050 (with motor and battery box!) were under 200 parts! However, to include the new 42048 Race Kart - 335p pieces, I did another query for <350 pieces http://brickset.com/sets/query-2907 This is even more crazy - Excavator and Tractor, have only 2, and 1 more part than this tiny go-kart!! it goes to show how much smaller/fiddly technic parts are these days.. I know if I wanted to buy a set by number of pieces, which one I'd want! (pneumatic excavator!!)
