Welcome to EB xXFoxhound90! Sounds like you've got some ambitious goals - looking forward to seeing you attain them!

Mechanical Chain Counter
deraven replied to uefchen's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
That is great! I especially don't like counting out the smaller type of links, since even weighing them on a gram scale is hard because they're so light. Nice (and useful) build! -
Welcome to EB, Thani! Happy building!

My pleasure! Looking forward to seeing you around the boards (and maybe your MARTA MOC when it's done)!

Hi jayv! Welcome back to Lego! I'm pretty sure that's just simple SNOT construction like so: Note that I used some 1x3 trans-clear plates there for the windows but those haven't been released in any sets so you'd use 1x1 and 1x2 plates there instead. Also, looking very closely at that photo, it appears that there's a couple brackets (I'm thinking part 44728 - see example below) at the top of the doors, probably like this: That's all very quick-and-dirty and it may have been done slightly differently, but hopefully that gives you enough to experiment some more and get the job done.

[MOC/MOD] Indominus MKII Truck
deraven replied to SilenWin's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
In the test video, I was wondering if you were going to surprise someone who was sleeping under those sheets! This MOC looks great and functions beautifully. Well done! -
I love everything about this- the chairs, the figs, the wall and ornamentation... just great!

Even with as simple as it is, there's something I really like about that shopkeeper's booth. The island is looking good!
-
Lovely. The teeth/horns at the top of the ladder are a very nice detail! The ingot bars on the front bumper area are another nice choice. Well done.

Interesting take on the 928! Overall I think it's great, but there just seems to be too much yellow canopy there with that newer piece. I like it better than the studded trans-yellow plate on the original version, but it seems like it still needs more blue in that area. Maybe striping on the canopy in the style of the one on the UCS X-Wing, but in blue - that'd look cool! Thanks for sharing that fun project.

Welcome to EB, Bobsundance! So... what do you need? Are you looking for help identifying parts or a set, or what? Give us a little more to go on - a picture would of course be helpful (maybe you had tried to post one that didn't come through?) - and I'm sure we can help you out.

Very nice. And yes, NPU on the "noodles" themselves; Waiter! I think there's hair in mine!
-
Cool. I think I love the sign but, yeah, a side shot where we can see more of it would be great!

Welcome to EB, Mightyzap, and welcome back to Lego! 5580 as well as classic castle are both great! Enjoy your sorting, and looking forward to seeing you around the boards.

The truck and the functions are really nice. It may not be the most accurate representation overall as you noted, but given your aim for playability I think it's great. Also, nice use of that old battery box!

Video if anyone's curious how the ISD Tyrant opens up
deraven replied to Raskolnikov's topic in LEGO Star Wars
That is one of the most delightful things I've seen in a while. So well engineered! I agree, though, that I'd like to hear your commentary about it- the way you were moving in the video made it feel like you were talking us through it, but then decided to go with just the music track instead. Thanks for sharing - that was great! -
[Review] 6973 Deep Freeze Defender from Ice Planet 2002
deraven replied to delta7890's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
That's awesome! I remember seeing this set in catalogs, but never knew it had so many play features. I love the usage of the garage door elements- totally didn't even know that was there! Thanks for the blast from the (icy cold) past!- 10 replies

Just in case anyone did miss it: Docking Bay 410 The shape, color scheme, greebling, and everything else about this is just awesome! It translated so well into real brick- especially that smooth cockpit action! I really want one for my fleet... let us know when the first Ares dealer opens a showroom in this sector.

Welcome to EB, John/FunVod! Happy to have you here, wordy or not.

That could work, and then you'd have some olive for another build.

Cool build, and all the weapons fire is excellent. Nicely done!
-
All great - and the posing/positioning with the bits of the building exploding out is fantastic!

That could be one way to go about it! I've seen some folks do renders of re-colors of the modular buildings in LDD and they can still look good with primary colors, but the key seems to be that it needs to be buildings with plenty of other stuff going on. The Green Grocer, for instance, looks OK in bright red since it's just the middle section and part of the top, but plenty of surrounding detail in other colors that still complement the red reasonably well. Things like the Palace Cinema, Grand Emporium, and Town Hall wouldn't look as good since a big part of their exterior is that one color (in my opinion). Of course, it also depends on the style you go for overall. You could have a section of Amsterdam row houses in mostly primary colors and I bet they'd look nice.

You're reading into what I wrote. My point was simply that he wouldn't lose money if he chose to sell them later. He wouldn't have to inflate his prices later if he has a moral issue with it; he could sell the sets in the blink of an eye if he put them up at around original retail cost when everyone else is selling them for 2-3x. To your comment on the "problem": whatever opinion you and/or the OP hold is fine and you're entitled to it, but these aren't scalpers- there was a fair, unconstrained, open market for these sets when they were sold and these people chose to buy them and hold them and now have them available at a market-determined prices, so they're not "scalping" them any more than a coin collector is scalping when they sell a rare $1 coin for $10K. Now, is there some degree of price-fixing going on along with market stagnation based on those inflated prices? Yes, I think so.

Unless you're ordering a huge amount (many hundreds or thousands of dollars in an order, the bricks needing to be shipped via cargo on a pallet - that kind of thing) you should have no issues. Most sellers would just label the shipment as "toys" and there's no import tax, but if the order is large enough it might get held at Customs and looked at to determine if it's a commercial order- that kind of thing. I've ordered Lego from sellers in Asia and Europe several times with no additional fees and if you google around a bit you'll see numerous other people asking this question and getting the same answer, so I think it's pretty safe to go with it. Going the other way (US to Europe) it can be a different story, but coming into the US shouldn't add any additional import cost. Happy importing!
