So GWP’s generally include spare parts? There better be a second forestman hat in there. Huge missed opportunity if there will be just 1 hat.

VIKING VILLAGE Ideas set via Target vote

Vikings set is going to win easily. It's as sure as death and taxes. Then your feeler for what is popular is wrong. It's going to be the Viking set. You also know this. -
10305 Lion Knights' Castle 90th anniversary set

Same. Though I suppose it's possible the pieces could be much less if they use a bunch of those old-school castle wall pieces.- 2,976 replies

10305 Lion Knights' Castle 90th anniversary set
Something_Awesome replied to R0Sch's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Why 15 figs? Why are so many lowballing us? That is LESS figs than the Cantina or Diagon Alley. And the castle will not have to cover any licensing fees off the top. C'mon guys. Is this the forum LEGO gets all it's bad ideas from? Or are we just trying to set a low bar for us to reduce disappointment?- 2,976 replies

10305 Lion Knights' Castle 90th anniversary set
Something_Awesome replied to R0Sch's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Per LEGO, minifigs are more of a "bonus" and the price is more a byproduct of the model. Look at Diagon Allery and the Cantina. I With that said, would not expect the build to be representative of what we might expect from a $350, non-licensed set that we may have been accustomed to in the past. I am sure this $350 price tag is the price taking in to account this year's inflation.- 2,976 replies

24 figures or bust. No reason there should be less than the Cantina, which I think has 22. And this castle set will have duplicate figures obviously (aside from heads).- 2,976 replies

10305 Lion Knights' Castle 90th anniversary set

A set that does well won't have a short shelf life. You're basically implying that you can see LEGO making a stupid financial decision because of the set's box art.- 2,976 replies

I doubt the 90th Anniversary set will have a short shelf life. It's going to do well. I'd be shocked if it were less than three years.- 2,976 replies

Not surprised that it's a castle set. Think we all saw this coming. Smart move by LEGO.
-
You're right if you think town and town-esque themes actually put LEGO "on the map." Not surprising because of its relatability. But Town and Town-esque themes did not make the final four. What I meant was that among the final four, Castle was LEGO's biggest staple. My "on the map" expression is just an expression. I do not have any interest in searching the internet for financial, statistical or sociological analysis to backup my claim about LEGO vs Pirates or Space. Sorry to mislead you on how invested I am in my position. And I do hope that there are multiple 90-year anniversary sets because I would love to buy a Castle and Classic Space set.
-
I am going to wage it is almost a 100% certainty. At the least, I can assure you they do not want the 90 year anniversary set to be Bionicles, especially since it is not a great representation of the brand's 90 year history. I think of the finalists, LEGO can exercise discretion. They will choose a castle theme IMO. I also would not consider a 90th Anniversary castle set as a redundancy because of the Medieval Blacksmith. The set is going to be an actual castle. LEGO is well aware of the popularity of the 3-in-1 Castle, and the Castle in the Forest set (which broke the internet). Castles are what put LEGO on the map and, aside from the theme being highly desired, it properly represents a huge chuck of LEGO's existence and success.

Mos Eisley Cantina (75290) minifigure expansion!
Something_Awesome replied to Something_Awesome's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Awesome. Post them here if possible. I made a Flickr just to share. For Rycar, the face I used has another face on the other side of it that is probably better. I did not realize I used the wrong face until I took the picture. Also, the cloth piece I used for Lak was from Capes4minifigs. It's a Jyn Erso category item, and the color is Dark Brown I think. I think there is some material that interprets the top layer cloth piece as reddish. So perhaps you can try an off-red shade (Capes4Minifigs offers it). Underneath the cloth piece is a jedi robe with brown undershirt (one of the old ones from like 10 years ago). Also would not mind seeing your Tonnika sisters. -
Hi everyone. So I have slowly been prepping to make a cool display for the Mos Eisley set. I think one of the most important steps is expanding the minifigures. I thought I would share in case other people had an idea to do the same. The community has come up with amazing and very accurate custom aliens that can be made using various minifig parts. And with the a new Quarren, Weequay, and Theelin introduced by LEGO recently, I think it's time to give some attention to human characters from Episode 4 that appeared during the Mos Eisley scene. The humans I am sharing with you today are either named characters that appeared in Episode 4, or non-named characters that appeared in the background. If you are not familiar with the named characters, you can google them for reference. Excuse the picture quality. I know some of the figures faces came out blurry. The pictures don't actually do any of these figures justice. NAMED CHARACTERS Senni Tonnika (I do not remember where the head is from. It's either a Poison Ivy figure or a Marvel figure. But the green make-up is a must) Swilla Corey (The legs are from the medieval blacksmith set. You can buy the legs for very cheap directly from LEGO's brick buying service). Rycar Ryjerd (It's nice being able to mix in characters with different height. It helps make the population of the display look more organic). Lak Sivrak (alien thrown in as a bonus. I believe he looks most accurate with tan sleeves coming out from under a poncho type garment) BACKGROUND CHARACTERS The following characters are "extras," or background characters. They all can be found in the short Mos Eisley scene found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VDa-cVMv-DQ I will list the time stamps for each character that can be seen in the above video. The time stamps will appear above the picture. 0:41; 1:00; 1:24 - this figure uses Monkey Kid parts. Replaced the arms with white arms to simulate the torso as being vest-like or tunic-like. Close enough I think. 0:41; 0:56 (just for a moment in the background); 1:43 - Ideally, this figure would have a white belt. Close enough. 0:44; 1:02; 1:10; 1:32; 1:38 - A must have. This guy was used as an extra EVERYWHERE lol. Luke is going around town on a landspeeder and this guy seems to be able to beat Luke to every destination while on foot LOL. Probably more accurate to use a Dark Tan Hoth Hat as opposed to Tan. But I like the Tan. Cassian Andor has a torso piece that as just as acceptable as what I used. The torso I used is from the Jurassic Park/World theme. BONUS ALIEN CHARACTER Mos Eisley is a mostly tan looking place and can therefore look boring. Adding minifigures with color can add a lot to a LEGO Mos Eisley diorama. I also like Rodians. So while I prefer to use figures that represent actual persons that appeared in the movie, I could not resist to add a made-up Rodian. Rodian's tend to wear future-istic types of garments (not quite cyber punk though). So I went for that. Rodian - The torso is from the latest Marvel Minifigure Collection (is it series 2 or 3?) The legs are from a sequel trilogy Han Solo. Regular back legs also work great. He's a bounty hunter though, so I do like the extra leg detail. I am currently working on three more figures: a black man with short-ish hair walking around in the video I linked; Trinto Duaba, and a Mon Calamari bounty hunter. The bounty hunter is made up but inspired by the following fan art: https://pin.it/541cRMN Fun fact regarding Trinto Duaba, he is not actually a human. He looks human. He is actually an alien that I believe can shape shift. While he has never had a minifigure made of him, he was available as a playable character in one of the LEGO video games. He appeared in Episode 4 and made a cameo in one of the sequel trilogy movies. Also, If anyone is interested, I can share other figures. Some are just copies of what the community has come up with (so they are not my ideas). Others are tweaks of community made figures (like the Lak Sivrak).

People have speculated as to what kind of retired sets subscribers would be able to have access to. For example, would it just be proprietary themes like Ninjago, or would it include licensed themes like Star Wars? I was thinking there was a good chance we could see a return of the retired Ninjago modulars. I would like to know what your speculations were. Perhaps any idea as to when the service will arrive? There is also speculation that perhaps retired sets would be made available but without the nice retail packaging we are used to in order to reduce costs, especially if they were going to be offered at their original, un-inflated, MSRP's. But then again, would subscriptions not help make up for lost profit margins? In any case, I really wanted to get the Ninjago city and docks modulars. I have a 1.5 year old now and thought the Ninjago modulars would be perfect sets to hold for many years until he is old enough to build them. Because even with retired sets coming back (possibly) with a subscription service, I imagine all sets will be 100% gone-for-good once the sets are old enough. I mean, I do not expect very old sets to ever return through the subscription service, especially if they used uncommon parts or very uncommon minifigure parts/molds due to economies-of-scale challenges.

Looks like the AT-AT is not selling well. Not a single LEGO store sold out of their shipment here in LA County and in stores just outside of the AT-AT. It looks like the people who wanted the set jumped on it right away because of the GWP. Now the set is going to just collect dust. I personally do not plan to buy it. I am actually not a fan of UCS sets aside for the Sandcrawler that came out several years ago. I do enjoy the MBS sets though. -

According to Star Wars Wiki, the 501st was fighting as snow troopers at the Battle of Hoth. -

I think I understand the complaints now. I just learned from a Youtuber that, while the Stormtroopers were overwhelmingly non-clone, the snowtroopers under Vader at Hoth, which I think includes the snowtroopers under Veers' AT-AT, were actually all clones, also known as the 501st, also know as "Vader's Fist." The issue is then if accuracy was sacrificed for the sake of inclusion. Accuracy has primacy when it comes to these $800 UCS sets (or even the $200 ones like the Slave 1). Did LEGO deviate from that the line is set to do for the sake of inclusion? Probably. Though I am actually not worried about it. Just expressing the gripes of others in hopefully better words. -

In case this needs to be said, the overwhelming majority of women in our world want to be excluded from combat. Some people struggle with suspending disbelief when reading books or watching movies of fictional worlds when an army/force has very high female representation. Obviously this becomes more believable though if men and women are left with only two choices; fight, or die. This is sort of the situation the rebel “scum” find themselves in. -

Regarding diversity, the impression I had was that front line troopers were almost exclusively male for the Imperials/empire. The premise originally was that they were “civilized.” It was far more likely to see women on the Rebels side. Sort of makes sense; if you can merely shoot a blaster, then the Rebels need you. With all that said, I prefer the blank, jet black heads under helmets for storm troopers and scout troopers. I swap them when I can. I appreciate the diverse heads because I can use them elsewhere. -

For those of you complaining about cost, I think as someone suggested, weight might be a better way to compare/contrast value. Also, any time a set requires brand new parts, it will drive up costs. The third thing is that this set likely involved a lot of R&D. It's not just that LEGO had to build a huge AT-AT. Many MOC builders have done that. But there are stability, durability, and warranty standards that the company must adhere to. That makes achieving a viable UCS AT-AT extremely difficult. This set is likely something LEGO has investigated for quite some time, and they have likely scrapped many ideas. When R&D goes up, the selling price of each unit will go up. You are not just paying for manufacturing, labor, marketing, and royalty costs. With all that said, this set would be much cheaper if LEGO didn't have to pay Disney for the Star Wars rights. EDIT: I just realized that the issue with price had to do with regional differences. LEGO has a factory to manufacture sets in Mexico. This should 100% be the reason for the regional price differences. -

My mistake. I must have been thinking about Caglvegod’s. I now know which build you are talking about. I 100% agree. I like Studs. I like that the UCS Slave 1 also has studs. The LEGO aesthetic has charm to it to be sure.
