How does it compare to the 75105 Millennium Falcon? Which would you recommend? -

I was sort of thinking the same thing. If I am going to display the set as part of a scene/diorama, I think most casual people would think of the Sandcrawler as just a big brown box. And that's the thing, the Sandcrawler is not objectively "pretty". I think the set is very good looking; however, that's probably due to my bias. Objectively speaking, I think the Slave 1 does look better. I am leaning towards the Slave 1, thanks guys. -

The front of the Sandcrawler's box does say UCS. Hmm. My goal was to display either set as part of a scene. I was going to recreate the droid-sale scene with the sandcrawler or the Cloud City landing pad with the Slave 1 with Han Solo being loaded into the Slave 1. The Slave 1 presents a bigger challenge since I'd have to find a great way to recreate the circular shaped landing pad. However, I'd have more money to spend on recreating the scene because the set is cheaper. The scene was not going to be anything too fancy. I've been planning for the landing pad, bridge, and a small wall with door opposite the landing pad. The Sandcrawler scene would be more straightforward. I'd need to own the Cantina for the speeder and other necessary pieces. I had plans for a couple Sandtroopers on dewbacks in the distance, and I thought that the droid escape set to be released soon would work well in the background as well. So the Sandcrawler scene would cost a lot more (the Sandcrawler already costs 100 dollars more than the Slave 1), but it would love more "life" to it (while also taking up more space). I've also started prototyping Ben Kenobi's to include as another decorative component to the droid sale scene, but again, this would mean that the whole MOC would have to cover a large surface area to create distance between all the complimentary scenes (Sandtroopers, Kenobi's hut, Droid escape etc) that go with the droid sale. By the way, I already have a custom made LIN-V8K droid. It's the same copy as Baronsat's, which is far superior to the one found in the advent calendar. On the flip side, I was going to incorporate Lifelites for the Could City landing pad which would give the Slave 1 a really nice effect. Decisions... I suppose I should at least wait for Droid Escape images. -

The Hoth set may in fact have been delayed. The idea was that it was going to take place of the Ewok Village (if I recall correctly). The village was "supposed" to be retired this year; however, I get the impression that the Ewok Village is going to be sticking around for a bit longer. -

I am going to get one of these this year and wanted to know people's thoughts. I don't want price to be a factor in this, but I am worried that people's thought process will be that since they can only get one, that they would go for the Sandcrawler because of its higher dollar value. I don't own either so it is difficult for me to judge which one is easier to appreciate. Both sets come with great figures (one has Jawas, the other has Boba Fett lol), and both have very interesting structural lines, slopes, and angles considering the sets are brick built. Thoughts if you could have only one? Lets assume that neither set would be played with as the Sandcrawler likely has better playability. Thanks for your thoughts! -

I've already mentioned this somewhere earlier in the thread (which may have been a couple months ago)... I read from a source that many considered to be reliable that the rumored UCS Hoth set was just more of a code to reference what the set was going to really be. The source said it was going to be a UCS AT-AT. Now many of you think that such a set is unfeasible because it would be too big of a vehicle to make, but we have heard from many sources (including lego employees) that something VERY BIG is coming this winter. Don't think of a UCS AT-AT some vehicle that is "too big" for TLG to make. Think of it as a base (like the death star), but with four legs. TLG could easily pitch it as a vehicle/playset/base with A LOT of interior and exterior play features. The only difference would be that this "base" would be standing on four legs (though they would be big legs). Dunno guys. We will have to wait and see. I really don't want to convolute what this big set could be, but I do think there is at least a very slim chance that this "big set" is the AT-AT, especially considering that there WILL be an AT-AT in the new trilogy (and it will look even better thanks to today's technology in film). -
Winter Village Sets - Rumours and Discussion

I honestly don't understand. Did we not have a reputable Lego Insider that is "in the know" say that it won't be a toy shop? What more proof do we need? -

Reserve judgement until you see the contraction sets in person. They look great. I thought the obi-wan looked awesome in person. -

I imagine they hand out 250 passes per day as opposed to all of them on Thursday. Its a really small box. -

Only exclusive is the tatooine mini build that is limited to 250 per day. They hand out passes for the set. None of the summer stuff is available. So what's available is the same stuff at the lego store plus the tatooine mini build. -

Hey guys, so I was at Star Wars celebration and took some pics. I don't think I've seen any good picks of the new Vader with his helmet off, so I took one for you guys. Also snapped a couple pics of the green speeder (I think a lot of people are anticipating it). Not sure if my pics will help answer any concerns that some people may have about the set that prior pics did not reveal, so here are those. I also have to say that the new Shuttle is quite big. I don't think that any of the pics/footage do it justice. With regards to Endor Leia, I always thought that her torso had a greenish/olive hue to it (based on the pics I have seen of the shuttle). It's actually a tan torso. I have pics if interested. Not a fan of the green speeder at all, though. Oh, and the contraction figures looked great. EDIT: I just noticed I had this pic as well. For anyone interested in a size comparison of the naboo fighter and green speeder :P Hmm, just noticed it comes with a set of stairs to enter the vehicle. Nice. -

I don't mean to say this to create a lot of hoopla, but someone on another very popular Lego forum said that (and they got this from an "insider") the Hoth Echo Base UCS set was more of a codename and that the set was going to actually be an AT-AT of UCS size. It's probably not going to be like a 5000-6000 piece set (if true), I mean, the Sandcrawler was not minifig scale and it is considered UCS, so the AT-AT should not have to be made minifig scale either. I say this because I know a lot of people think a UCS AT-AT is not possible given that it'd cost too much to be made into minifig scale, but it does not have to be minifig scale to be great. I wish I could find the link to the post though. In any case, a 3000 piece AT-AT would be cool (more pieces the better though). -
For the red visor (where you used the red trans tile), I had it so that I mounted the red tile on top of red trans plates so that it appears more flush. Obviously, you could use four 1x1 trans red plates or two 1x2's etc. Anyway, I really appreciate the picture as I think the mod will look great now!

A new sand baseplate is coming (you can see it at shop@home). Set number is 10699. The plate is 3 dollars more though and the blue and green ones seem to be retiring unfortunately. I needed more green too. -

The death star's retirement is not important. The echo base is the death star-sized set that everyone was talking about. I used the word "replacement" to emphasize the piece count of the echo base. -

So I guess the AT AT walker and new snow speeder make a lot of sense now that we know the death star replacement is the Hoth Echo Base. This could be awesome. -
I prefer the ome on the right the most... Even prefer it over the original design. Personally, I feel the dark gray toes adds some needed shadowing. Great job; I am going to steal your idea :P

I am sure by the looks of it you can tell it is a very elementary "mod." Looks great in LDD (better than stock). We'll see how good it looks in person (when I get the set). The AT-AT in this pic is also at its stock height. The mod I have in plan for the AT-AT's height will get it lined up perfectly with the landing pad's walkway. The AT-AT will be more than 1 brick (but less than 2) taller.
-
I do not own this set yet, but I've made modifications to the head (in LDD) which allow the AT AT to have a transparent red tile as the visor (looks more menacing), and I've made the legs taller. I felt that the AT AT needed to look bigger and a great way to achieve this was to make the legs a tad longer because I felt the legs were not long enough. The height I increased the AT AT by is the same height as a 1x2 brick f you put the brick on it's side so that the 2 studs are verticle. Sort of like this: [0] [0] It's a mild height increase but enough to make it look just a bit bigger. Sometimes less is more. I already have the parts to mod it but I am going to wait for the May the 4th before buying the set.

I like it! I feel like something is missing on the big platform though. Railings? Or maybe some other little detail?

List of Star Wars sets that are retiring!

The falcon is a great set. I don't own it but I bought it as a gift for someone and, in all honesty, the gaps were not bad at all. I'd wait for another UCS version though. Now if UCS isn't your thing, you should definitely get 7965. I'd way til like May the 4th or something at this point so you get something out of it. -

The Amazon site for the US has the 9493 x wing on sale for a nice price. I think the Lego X Wing might be one of those sets that you should own even if you are not a big fan of Star Wars. If you're just a fan of Lego in general, you should own 9493. It's an iconic ship, and Lego did a great job with it. If you're into modding, you can mod the 9493 to look even better. Though it does not need much modding. -

No, they wouldn't. But I don't see why they can't make an AT-AT with over 3,000 parts.
