Preference of Imperial Guard Epaulette colour
Athos replied to Peg Leg Pascoe's topic in LEGO Pirates
Personally, I like them all. Each has its own merits when used in a particular situation. I think my least favorite is yellow, as I don't like how it looks with the red uniforms. Steve -
That's what happens when we threads get are too long... ;-) I figured they had to have been posted already, but they weren't in the first post, so I thought maybe they'd been missed. Plus, I wanted to plug adventurers.dk. I'm kind of surprised they did an interior. Steve

I'd guess they couldn't weigh more than a couple of ounces... :-P Steve

That's an interesting point, but this set would seem to explicitly indicate they are indeed crocodiles. As to the poll, I can't decide. I like them all too much. Best Lego animals ever... Steve

Is the new Castle line making old ones obsolete?
Athos replied to concreteasflesh's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I do think the new shiny armor and weapons make the classic-stuff look shabby. Beyond that, I don't see much conflict between the two, which would render classic obsolete. Though since most of my classic sets are packed up in storage, I've not had a chance to put a bunch of the different parts together for comparison. I do have a story line for why the new stuff is different from the classic. At least in my little Lego universe... Steve -
That Obi-wan hair looks good. Why does it have to come in the $100 set? (That's a rhetorical question, as I already know). Who the heck is this? Jabba Jr. or slimer from Ghost Busters? The manga-guard capes look good. They'd make great Castle figure accessories. Who is this? He might make a nice vampire/zombie. Steve

Indiana Jones Part 4 - Set Pictures are available
Athos replied to Navy Trooper Fenson's topic in LEGO Licensed
I imagine the tent is the same material as the tent that came in the Sphinx set, which, I believe, is the same material as on the truck. Steve -
Indiana Jones Part 4 - Set Pictures are available
Athos replied to Navy Trooper Fenson's topic in LEGO Licensed
My thoughts: Jungle Duel: strange name for a set that doesn't look much like a duel. I'm liking the tent, may have to buy two of these... Two new hair pieces? Gold samurai sword. Not sure I like those new spider/ant pieces. I'd rather they used the old spiders and made a new fez mold. River Chase: not much to this one. The truck thing still looks very soviet. Looks like some dark brown tree limbs. Still not sure if those crocs are dark green. Not sure I like the light green soviet uniforms. They look too much like pajamas to me. Jungle Cutter: says Mutt is included, but I don't see him in the picture. I don't like that vehicle much at all. Interesting trees. I like the bionicle vine pieces. Probably the weakest set of the line. Temple: weird structure. I still can't figure out what the heads of the skeletons are. Nice natives. Not a very impressive set. I hope its not all stickered up, but it probably is... Steve -
Another neat idea for a faction could be merfolk. It would make a good adversary for the Troll Attack Ship. We could have merfolk, rideable sea-horses and an undersea castle. Steve

I'm not sure I understand all this hate on castle fantasy. I kind of like it myself, though not so much the skeletons... Its nice to see Lego take a new tack after 20+ years. Besides its what's popular now. And its not as if Lego is doing a crappy job at it. I think Elves would be interesting, because it would give us a new style of Castle/Structure. I see two methods they could go with: (1) tree forts type things; or (2) really etherial castles. Personally, I'd like either one of these. As for the figures, I think they could make them kind of warcraft-night-elf-y. Maybe give them a blue tinted skin with ears painted on the heads (that way they could still wear helmets). Steve

I just got it too. I'm very disappointed that the ark isn't fully gold. Way to cut corners Lego... :-| It be 100% better if the stickers were printed. I might have bought two of these, if it wasn't for those two issues. All in all, its a fair set. Maybe on the upper end of fair, but its still the weakest of the lot. One thing I don't get though, is those Anubis statues... :-P Steve

My sister had a rabbit that liked to hide amongst the Castle's I had on a table in my room. I was picking rabbit turds out of my tubs of Lego for ten years... :-X Steve

Colossal Castle Contest V winners have been announced!
Athos replied to Siegfried's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Yay for me! Actually, I'm quite surprised I placed at all, what with all the great entries. If anyone needs some inspiration (or a knocking down of your ego a few pegs) check out the entries. Always some amazing stuff in the CCC. Steve -
I was skeptical too. Then I saw it was LM and seemed to remember that he was pretty credible. I'm glad you confirmed his credibility SW4J. Now we wait for details... I'm hoping we have barbarians vs. elves... Steve

Not making the onion dome part symmetrical. What were they thinking? Steve

While I'd never heard the term before, I'd assumed it mean something like that. I'd also assumed, however, that with a name like Green Grocer, there'd be a lot more green in it. Not that I'm complaining (wouldn't want to get accused of being a downer). It still looks like a nice set, just not exactly what I'd envisioned. Steve

That's a lot of sets. *y* I'm with K-D in wanting some hints as to what to expect. I'm also impressed we're hearing about this nearly a full year out... *y* Steve

Looks good. I just wish there was more green on the front. It looks like the only visible green is on the sides. I like the bay windows on the right. Definately a must buy. Steve

Blech... I really don't like how it looks. Those brown plates... Why couldn't they have included gold plates? Sometimes I just don't get the corners Lego cuts... I'm quite disappointed... *n* Steve

Nice. I may have to talk to the wife about buying some Eggos... and perhaps about eating them, since I'm not real fond of them... X-D Steve

Does anyone have a picture of the ark from the lost tomb? I was looking at some pictures and it appears it has yellow bricks in it. *n* Is that correct? Steve

I had something similar happen. I bought a 7240 Fire Station set on clearance from Walmart. The box appeared to be sealed. I should have been suspicious, because the box didn't feel right, but I was in a hurry. So I get it home, open it up (it was tough to open, which makes me think it had been opened and re-glued) and dump out on the floor a bunch of empty bags and broken baby building toys, none of them Lego. I took it back to Walmart and they wouldn't take it back. I had to get very indignet, threaten never to shop at Walmart again and to bad mouth it too all my friends, before they'd give me my $15 back. Though I've never had a problem with ebay. Once time (cue the sad violins), I found the small paradisa pony set and bought it for $5. I was so happy, only to find out the seller shipped to the wrong address and I never got it. :-( She did return my $5 though. Steve

Photo Review: Temple of Mount Everest 7417
Athos replied to MagPiesRUs's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
I like this set. Nice figures. Decent structure. Fun plane. Lots of nice new accessories. White burps (icebergs, anyone?). Steve
